David Pack is an amazing singer in a vastly underrated band. Not sure what else you may have reviewed by them, but ''You're the Biggest Part of Me'' and ''How Much I Feel'' were radio staples for decades with good reason. You'll love 'em.

So funny you said that because I have always liked Ambrosia, but I have never heard this song.I am loving the psychedelic and funky sound of it! Actually,if I didn't see the name of the band,I would never know this was Ambrosia by the instrumental alone.

Ambrosia was outstanding because they began as a first-rate prog/rock band on their first two albums. They then morphed into a first-rate LA jazz/pop R&B direction. Both were successful incarnations. Superb musicians and vocals.

I was so lucky to be a teenager in the 70s. Got to hear the best of the 60s, the cornucopia of the 70s and then best of the 80s. This song was so atmospheric, creating a whole mood like Black Water, Holding Back the Years or Baker Street. Emotional impact!

I was going to mention this too. "Nice Nice Very Nice" is a phenomenal piece, unlike any of their other well-known tracks. The lyrics were written by author Kurt Vonnegut Jr.! The influence of Alan Parsons is definitely there too. They never returned to a progressive sound like that, but it was definitely fascinating and cool. The Little River Band did something similarly progressive with their first hit "It's a Long Way There."

I commented on this recently on the Silver video - though other eras are best for other musical genres, I strongly feel that the mid-70s were the peak period for pop music. So much diversity of instrumentation, fantastic musicianship, wonderful production values, and authentic emotional expression.

Totally agree with you! A lot of acoustic instruments flavoring the mix, and not just your normal 6 string guitar and piano. You had harpsichords and dobros and kazoos and dulcimers and chimes and marimbas and flugelhorns and bass saxes and clarinets and oboes. And not just by studio musicians or for-hire orchestra members-- the bands themselves could play these instruments. So much spice and atmosphere!

The excellent debut Ambrosia album is mostly a prog album, with a few more “straightforward” songs like this. The whole thing is worth a listen. Ambrosia morphed into a hugely successful adult contemporary band by the early eighties. I was in high school in the early eighties, and Ambrosia got played a lot on the radio station that my mom listened to. Still well written, well played, and well produced, but very commercial. This song always reminds of what Steely Dan was doing in 1975-76.
