Yes, but the process is enjoyable, the result is beautiful (potentially), and you learn things when you do little projects like this. Even the simple things in your shop have time and love in them. It’s wonderful.

A different perspective: He's not making a nifty little project. He's making a video to put on KZfaq to earn a paycheck. It took him a few hours to make, same as you clock in and spend a few hours on the job to take home a paycheck.
@raulduke71422 ай бұрын
@@JDeWittDIY I hear that and respect it, but I dont clock in or earn a paycheck.

How about this: he makes nifty projects to remind us how ridiculously long it would take, so we don't feel compelled to try it ourselves, thereby have more time to fix the things we need to.

DIwhys are like, the reddit equivalent of tiktok's "no waste/restock" videos. look nice, but useless to the common viewer and so much work that not even the person in the video actually keeps that up when theyre not recording lol
@GarrettBShaw2 ай бұрын
You are not wrong, but I also have a lot of bits that didn't come with a case. I agree this is not the most practical, but it definitely is a neat storage idea, especially if you just enjoy fun projects and organizing things. The more space saving method is a drawer and a small plastic tub containing all the loose bits, definitely what I currently use 😂
@dhayes51432 ай бұрын
I don't know about you, but any cases I have always start to crack and break apart into small pieces over time, especially at clasps, making them useless at staying closed. This design has fewer stress points for material so it should last a lot longer, and even when it does break, it is simply wood, which will not contribute to plastic pollution.
@Watthead802 ай бұрын
@@dhayes5143 lol plastic pollution. Except the plastic the bits come in, whether from the case or the plastic holding the bit to the cardboard. 😂😂😂
@slome8152 ай бұрын
@@Watthead80 Can't you buy loose drills? Here in belgium you either go to a DIY store, and buy an overpriced POS drill bit either in a set or in a plastic box, or you go to a proper tool store and buy either a set in a good quality case, or you buy loose drills, often in a drawer behind the counter. You'll need the loose drill bits eventually anyway, especially if you do a lot of iron work some of the drills wil wear out by regrinding, and others will be barely used.

@jamesharris51562 ай бұрын
I’m not trying to be snarky but plans for what exactly? Just make it as large or small as you need to fit your tools. There are zero critical dimensions. The spacing on the magnets would just be determined by the thickness of stock you use.
@Michel-7.7.72 ай бұрын
I'm afraid that if you need plans, you're not the kind of 'figure out' guy. Have you ever done something with your hands, other than playing with yourself?
@dliguori252 ай бұрын
Here’s some plans. Take a block of your wood of choice, drill a series of holes in the top, insert drill bits. Save time and space and don’t build a contraption with magnets where gravity will do the trick better. Or buy ANY set of drill bits and it’ll come with a steel holder that’s portable and far less silly than this thing.

Nice, but you ordinarily get a plastic case when you buy a set of bits!
@racetrackalexander3812 ай бұрын
This is more than that. The plastic case can be a PITA to remove the bits and the steel cases can be bulky. This puts all of the bits in a visible spot and easy to get. It is a bit of work but this piece of organization will never wear out.
@youutubestinks45802 ай бұрын
and ordinarily you have to bring it out the shelve, to open it, to pull out the drill it, to close the case, to put it aside in a safe place or back to the shelve and then use it in the drill.... here you just take it off, use it and take it back... work inteligently not hard
@xa91312 ай бұрын
Yea but this looks fun!!!
@Watthead802 ай бұрын
@@youutubestinks4580 The amount of time he spent on this project, would add up to a very long time of just getting the bits out from a case. The thing is massively oversized. I also don't know many woodworkers or fabricators who only have 8 drill bits. If I built this for mine, I'd have an entire wall dedicated to just bits. 😂
