I don't even regard his rise in the ranking since last winter as the most remarkable thing. It's more impressive how he went from a seven match losing streak just this summer to where he is now. What a transformation in so little time. From being a defensive player, standing far behind the baseline, to now being perhaps the most aggressive player in the world.

I’ve only started following tennis in the last couple years so don’t know a lot about it but from what I’ve seen I was expecting him to be a clay court specialist so these last few weeks have really surprised me. He could be a real threat in 2023!

Yeah good pick up. This aggressive style will serve him well for the future as well because it takes less toll on the body. he was going toe to toe with Djokovic in the final and not moving off the baseline which is very encouraging to see.

Despite all his behavioral problems, I like to give Holger a chance at redemption. Yes he can be a brat and often would say hideous things, but at 19yrs he deserves a chance. I have been watching him for over a year, saw a couple of matches where he was cramping at the end of three setters and he looked like the tough life on tour might be a bit too much for him at such young age. But there were signs of a great generational talent, similar to Alcaraz in both power and touch. Not so much on the mental side, but boy, he made a huge progress this year, especially in the last few months. Physically and mentally he's a different player and a real force on the tour. The last month has been mind-blowing, the cramping boy reaching 4 finals in a row, winning two titles and beating the best players in the world. I don't wish anyone from the ATP finalists anything bad, but it would be the perfect end of season for Holger if he could play a match or two as an alternate. He surely is up there with the best and he got there much quicker than I expected. I thought he would be a late bloomer, but he is another 19-year old rocket. 2023 will be great, the new generation is banging on the door so heavily after the Big 3 era, it's unbelievable. Very exciting times for mens tennis.

Yup...exiting times ahead...I might be getting too ahead but I can imagine Rune/alcaraz/Felix or any other youngsters beating djokovic in AO next year and taking the title... and only then we can say the nextgen is finally here and taken over...otherwise we're hoping the same for last 4-5 years..😄 And nothing against Nadal but it's better that he pulls out from ATP Finals (without playing any match, so that Rune can play all 3 matches..and infact Rune can definitely win the finals as well) for below reasons : 1. We're not sure weather he's 100% or not & he might have to pull out after playing 1-2 matches anyways...so it's better that he pull out now.. 2. Even if he plays, Chances of winning the Finals are almost none...

@@hirenpatel3699 I think it's possible. Especially if Novak gets 2 or 3 strong players in a row. He can still beat Medvedev, Rune, Felix, Alcaraz or Sinner in best of 5 sets when he's in good form. But I doubt he can go through more of such hurdles in one tournament. We will see at the ATP Finals, although that's best of 3 sets. I would be surprised if he won the title. The scenario of him having a tough draw at AO is likely to happen because his ranking is lower. I expect him to win Wimbledon again but I wouldn't bet on him anywhere else. I just hope they let him play in Melbourne, so that people can't use the argument, that the winner is not a real winner because Djokovic was not there. That's utter nonsense, he is not a guaranteed winner anywhere. As for Nadal and the ATP Finals, is he pulling out? I agree with your assessment of his chances, but I think he should still play there if he is not having some health issue again.

@@patrikmarflak6559 Yeah, I don't know why people even feel sorry for djokovic and infact supporting him as well...these are the real sick people.. He could have avoided all these drama, controversy and hate this year by just taking a vaccine...nobody would have stopped him from playing any tournament.. As simple is that... He had made his choice and there are consequences for it as well... I won't feel sorry for him at all if he stopped from playing AO and USO next year as well...but yeah as you said, I also don't won't some idiots to say that some other player won jus because djoker wasn't there...coz djokovic can blame himself only for that...nobody else's fault...

I think by far the biggest thing that has helped Holger Rune reach the top 10 ranking is a mental coach. In the summer Rune started working with a danish 70 yo ex-special forces coach named B. S. Christiansen, who has worked with a lot of professional danish athletes. I think Rune is more level headed now, and does'nt let adversity and frustration in games get the best of him. It'll be really exciting to see, if he can keep progressing in 2023.

Yep.....A couple seasons for Carlos and Holger to hone their skills and they are going to be a force to be reckon . Jannik and Felix are probably now as good as they are going to get considering they are already seasoned pros with 4 years in the circuit whereas for the dane and the spaniard this was virtually their first full season. Needles to say the rest are gonna have to keep up and evolve. I love Lorenzo's game but a single handed backhand can be too much of a liability now a days . One thing is for sure though....If Carlos improves his serve over the course of the summer he's gonna be too big a problem for most

A lot of people seem to think that Runes mentality is and has been his weakness, but it really has always been his biggest strength. Being so overly ambitious as Rune is, he doesn't accept anything less than perfection and greatness. His anger and frustration in bad periods is what pushes him to get better, because he hates losing. If you have ambitions of becoming the number 1 tennis player in the world and beating the likes of Djokovic, Alcaraz and Aliassime demands that you play near perfect Tennis. His mentality and perfectionism is exactly why he has been able to rise so quickly. He doesn't care or acknowledge the fact that he is an underdog in most matches, because he already views himself as someone who doesn't make mistakes and shouldn't lose. If you don't have the passion to scream or agonize over your losses, do you actually care enough to do something about it? Why do you think it is, that right after the struggle during the summer after Casper Ruud loss, Rune was able to heighten his level to perhaps top 5 or top 3 in the world? It's cause of his mentality. He doesn't lose. He doesn't accept anything else than being the greatest.
