Experiencing the world around us starts by finding those unique communities closer to home. Like why not travel a couple of hours to get a taste of the Netherlands? We learned so much from our visit to Holland, Michigan and can’t wait to go back for their Tulip Time Spring Festival. Here are some of their best attractions and places to eat.

---- About Kimchi and Beans ----
A husband and wife team, our channel is an extension of our Kimchi & Beans blog and magazine. We're based in Chicago and we enjoy working on recipe development for brands, food styling, and short travel features about the Midwest, the US and the world. Kimchi and Beans began as a fun way to honor our Caribbean and Korean backgrounds, as well as the diversity that drives our stories. You can expect videos and posts that touch on our upbringing, our experience living in various US cities, traveling abroad and how it all translates to the food we cook at home.

My oldest daughter lives east of there. We are planning a trip to Holland when we go to visit her. Love the video, great info and insight. I would love to take the family to see the blueberry farms but out of all the things my youngest is allergic to blueberries.

Looked up a lot about this place. My critezism of it would be: -Some spelling mistakes, -It's basically the Netherlands in the 1800s -Some of old clothing I saw looks off -A lot of the food I've seen doesn't realy look like it came from the Netherlands -Some small things bleed through in the town that indicates it's America I'm realy impressed by the rest though
@newtfigton8795
@newtfigton8795 3 жыл бұрын
I think the fact that America bleeds through is an indication of the larger American identity encompassing all of the unique cultures immigrants have brought here over the centuries. I see it as a unifier.

I’ve always wondered what a native Dutch person thinks of Holland. The city is a basic midwestern American city. The only Dutch inspired architecture are Downtown Holland and the Dutch Village tourist attraction. I’ve lived here all my life, and the whole Dutch thing feels a little artificial to me. For the most part, it’s like any other small American city. In my opinion, the most interesting thing about Holland is it’s location on the coast of Lake Michigan. There’s lots of trails, beaches, and local history that makes this city very interesting.

Windmills where used to crush gains and transport water. I've never heared of those other things. Atleast in the real netherlands that's the case.

1) were* 2) the windmill on Windmill Island was imported from the Netherlands. It was transported right after World War 1 and brought to the U.S. It remains to be one of the only authentic windmills in the U.S and one of the oldest in the world. If you visit the windmill, you will see bullet holes from old rifles and artillery used in multiple wars including the First World War. They frequently used windmills as spotting towers in wars. If you don’t believe me, I suggest you do your research 3) Back before this windmills and many others like it were very popular, the Netherlands was a small, rural country. They often had small towns that spread across large areas. So, when people had weddings, it was a big thing for the town. 4) Next time don’t speak or right something until you know what is correct and incorrect. I’ve lived in Holland for over a third of my life, and have learned so much about Dutch history and it’s almost offensive to try and talk about said culture in such a way.
