Wow! I bought a Mazda 5 almost 2 years ago. Since then I have driven about 90,000km (55,923 miles) all around north America. Two and half years ago in my 98' Chevy Cavalier I drove 16000km (9942 miles) in only 3 weeks. That trip included Florida and specifically Key West. I felt your pain and struggle of sleeping in the car in unbearable heat! I honestly feel inspired after watching your adventures and your Mazda 5 tour video. I'm stealing some of your ideas how to do it right and make my car more homey for another road trip this summer ;) I also feel inspired to create a new KZfaq channel about my adventures. Nice video; well put together. I am about embark on an adventure to Grand Canyon in my '04 Neon car camper conversion. Just a suggestion; your car looks a bit overloaded. Check your owners manual to see when you need to change the struts and possibly the springs. I'm installing heavy duty MOOG rear ones today. Most cars recommend changing struts every 50-70K miles. I have had the fronts changed a few times over the years because thats where most of the weight is. I overloaded the car when I moved a few years back and now oncoming cars flash me at night when i am driving with low beams, obviously the rear is sagging. I have had it since new and the car has 221K well maintained miles on it and runs like a champ. My rear springs and struts are original and I didn't think anything of it until I noticed the car started to bounce/jounce on dry pavement in turns at 45 or 55 mph and I always have good quality tires. I didn't realize a worn rear suspension could cause me to have a spinout until last week. What if it is wet pavement? As I jacked up the rear of the car last night I noticed inner tire wear. I have 51K on my front struts now and 2 new tires. After today and the new rear struts and springs I will get 2 new rear tires also, all season M+S and a 4 wheel alignment. I only have 87 cu.ft. to work with so my platform will encompass removing the rear seats and I will sleep with my feet in the trunk. I don't plan to adventure off road that much but am also considering snow tire chains just in case I get stuck in mud somewhere. I know it's great to have everything you need but I have to think backpacker mentality( my g/f is supportive and like her and her makeup, "less is more") as I build out my car camper. I am building something like "007Craft" did in the Honda Civic. If I like it I may upgrade to a used newer Mazda or Toyota wagon. A full size van would be nice but I am willing to sacrifice space for gas mileage. Good Luck and let the Adventures begin!

I own a 2007 Toyota Matrix XR (small hatchback vehicle) and have been very seriously considering moving into it. Only for about a year to save money. I've only just discovered this video, so I don't know if you've mentioned it before, but how and where do you find places to park your car and sleep for the night? Thanks!

Hi Holly...I like how you organized. Makes it so much easier... We have traveled in our 2014 Toyota Van love it.. Hubby built the bed to go in and come out.. yep we still have our home.. At our age we need too. Love traveling did the summer months last summer and a little bit this summer. We are not young chickens but we love adventures. Until they shut the lid we hope to travel. I have one question do you work from your van? Do you travel out of state or live and work in town?

That's a really good video and I like the way you keep everything organised. It also looks really simply. However having to sit with one leg on the seat with the other one crossed over it looks so uncomfortable. I've had a numb and tingling leg from doing that before, then got up and fallen on the floor, haha. Great video though! I'll look forward to watching some more.
