varun reddy Mothe US, sorry. Though I learned of it from an acquaintance who was from India who I thought was making things up to see what the stupid white dude would fall for. Then I googled it and was amazed. I don't even like sports and I like Kabaddi.

Many people in the UK know Kabaddi because it used to be shown on free to air television on ch4 and was essential Sunday morning viewing.

Kabaddi on C4 was great and had a huge audience. So C4 canned it. They despise any sort of success. And 'used to' means over 25 years ago!

The word kabaddi is derived from the Tamil words Kai-pidi, which literally mean '(let's) hold hands'. When a raider enters the court, we can see the team mates holding hands to defend him.

Sorry to be a pedant but the players in kabadi say kabadi over and over because each attack lasts for one breath and saying kabadi over and over proves that the player isn’t taking an in breath.

John Richardson Training I suspected it was that - there's a similar game we played in summer camps in Czechia which differed only in that a) the sound being made was "hutututu....", and b) the object was to remain as long as possible in the opposing team's territory without getting caught and/or losing breath. If you got caught/stopped saying "hutututu", you switched sides; obviously whichever team lost all members, lost. It's not a sport, but I suspect some common roots.

In retrospect, it's entirely possible someone did simply bring that directly from India the exact same way sports like basketball were brought over - only in this case it only caught on as a summer camp game. :-)

Kabaddi is most growing sport and popular in India. Pro kabaddi league best league. Most interesting game. I love kabaddi. And also play in school level in India

My baby brother was very short, he didn’t end up growing until his late teens, meanwhile I was over 5 feet when I was 11. We had a basketball net although neither of us were very sporty. The first day my gym teacher taught me about chest passes (I think I was 12/13) I went home and was playing with my brother and did one, completely forgetting my chest and his face were at the same height. I smashed him really badly in the face and felt so amazingly awful for the rest of the night cause it totally wasn’t intentional. So I feel for Sandi.

Kabaddi is the only sport that looks the most excitiing sport of all the sports in the world because in Kabaddi,The momentum of game changes in every 30 seconds and it's a game of 40 mins,20mins of each half and this game constanly flows from the 1st minute to the last minute of the total duration.

I like netball. But now I realise that may be because I was the tall girl in the scenario. Interesting to hear it from the perspective of a short person. However, the perks stop at netball for me as I wasn't the type of tall girl getting off with the boys at the disco.

The point is to restrict ur breathing so u don't waste much time when it's ur turn to invade opponent territory, the more breath u have the more time u get, try saying kabaddi kabaddi and tackle someone, u wouldn't want to waste time.

Netball is personally my favourite thing to do but it is interesting to see it from a smaller persons point of view. Im 14 and im 5"11 1/2 so thats probably why i like it. It can seem as boring but it can get quite funny if you're watching it with the right people. It is a lot of fun and i wouldnt be where i am today without it

I hated Netball and it was because of the lack of moving around, the area restrictions, and having someone follow you around and getting in the way like a very determined toddler. I dislike team sports anyway but they were done to death at school, and because they didn't let us do swimming and only did athletics in the summer minus the long distance running, so I never got the chance to do something I can ignore everybody for long periods of time

I can’t believe the coincidence of this being in my suggestions today. It was only a couple of hours ago that I was thinking about girls’ basketball back in my high school days when we could take only three steps with the ball, defence was restricted to the third of the court near our team’s basket, the other two-thirds being for the forwards etc.. I was thinking of how today’s athletes would never believe all the restrictions. 🎵doo do doo do🎶

When I was in school, I was an attacker on the hockey team, so whenever we played netball in PE, they had me as... is it goal attack? Goal striker? Something like that... I'm 4"11. There was a girl who was ALWAYS on the other team for some reason, who was 6ft. So of course, she was always the bloody keeper. I hated netball.

See in Canada we didn’t play netball, they just let the girls play basketball either with the boys or in all girl teams/classes. I’d never really heard of net ball till this episode.

@@LilyGrace95 Australia and New Zealand are probably the most enthusiastic netball countries as it has no social divide. Nearly every country town and suburban districts have at least one club. In Britain it is concentrated more in the middle class.

I’m going to be real with you Sandi - being tall did Not make netball enjoyable! I’m 5’10 and I was, ridiculously, about that height for most of my mid/late teens. I was put as goal keeper Every Single Game & just had to stand there like a fucking pole while some little prick who played for county threw the ball at my head. 100% agree - rounders was Great! (though i’ve always been a football player)

I don't really understand. In my country boys and girl play basketball, I hadn't even heard of netball until I moved to the UK for uni and a girl in my flat joined the netball team. It looks just like basketball except there are stupid rules. Why don't everyone just play basketball?

stiras1 We didn’t really play basketball at all. At my school all the sports were: (field) hockey, rugby, netball, football (soccer), cricket, tennis, badminton, rounders, athletics/fitness etc, badminton. We played basketball about 4-5 times throughout my whole time there. I didn’t play American football once! (Or lacrosse - that was for the private and public schools, i was at a state comprehensive)

Probably originally but it’s such a different sport now, plus, as they said, it sucks. Players can only be in certain areas of the court, there’s no backboard, you can’t move with the ball (or bounce it at all) and you can only hold it for 3 seconds. tbh the only similarities are the methods of scoring goals (through hoops), where the points system is different too, and the ball shape. other than that they are very different games.
