In this video I check out the Hollyland Lark M2, it’s a tiny, wireless, wearable lav mic from a company that’s been making some crazy innovative strides. Does it sound good? How does it compare to the RODE wireless lavs? It’s got some lofty specs on paper, do they translate to the real world?

You don't mention one main thing , and big kudos to Hollyland , the black and white stickers to cover the logo completely ! first thing I did taking the transmitters out of the box.

@@rayaneredhead3374 Yes but he didnt mention the black and white ones , thats the big deal and not the silly stickers . Maybe it was a pre production model which didnt have them . These would never be a con .

I first have the Hollyland Lark Max and it sold me on the Hollyland brand. It has on board recording and also a port for a regular Lab Mic. When the Lark M2 came out, it seemed to solve some of those niche situations where this configuration would be perfect. My only concern was did it sound as good as the Max. Yes it did and the distance is incredible. Yes, forget the smily face stickers, the black or white ones are good to cover the logo. I do wish there were more of them provided in the box. Oh yes, the accessories that come with it are a big bonus. Great for interviews and action shots. Hollyland new series are far ahead of anything else and my go to choice. They did make your voice sound great and post just fine tunes it nicely. Thanks for the review and becoming a believer. A must have in your kit.

On the back of your review that I watched last night I ordered one at 10am today and Amazon dropped it off around 3pm. Honestly i struggle to press record on my iPhone. I plugged the receiver in, put the mic on my shirt. Didn’t sync the mic to receiver. Opened phone and pressed record on my iPhone. Don’t even have to accept the phone connection to receiver. I walk around the house with phone in living room and audio was amazing. Brilliant. Honestly it couldn’t have been easier. Thanks for your review. Amazing bit of kit.

Thank you for the great video. I was exactly joping for this. The last model turned off the mics when you get too far away and get disconnected. Which forced me always after i filmed the bride i had to go back to the groom and asked him nicely to turn on the mic right before the aisle scene. It is a deal breaker for me because i can not always ask the the protagnist to turn on the mic again after i have setup their lavalier. Thank you mate.

I saw your excellent Video a couple of months ago and decided to purchase these, even though I have the DJI Wireless v1 which I do like. Main purpose was something small enough to attach to my four year old and get some audio we can keep for years. BUT what I didn't realise was HOW GOOD they are for my own use. I actually can't believe I am saying this, but I prefer the sound over the DJI Wireless v1 and will likely sell them as I am a very basic simple user, not a pro like a lot of your viewers. How can something THIS small sound SO good?! :) anyway thanks for your Videos I really appreciate your honest approach and you will achieve your long winding road to 100K in no time as you deserve it. I also need to find your Videos on how to get the sound better !

I’ve had these mics for a little while now and was sitting here agreeing with everything that you said. It is a terrific little mic and imo as well, sounds better than my Rode wireless lavs. Hollyland make some great wireless systems and I also use two others that look more traditional but allow connection of external mics. This one doesn’t allow external mic connection and you have to use the little units only. One thing I have found with mine. I pack them away and when I return say a week later, everything has switched off in the charger unit and on opening the lid, they come on but haven’t been charging in there. Then leaving them for half an hour in the case tops them up again! Maybe it saves power and they go fully off after a while, I don’t know. The thing that is really useful about lav mics though as opposed to studio mics is their portability. I’ve been using mine with an Insta360 Ace Pro and for such a tiny, portable handful of camera, it looks and sounds quite amazing when you’re running around capturing anything that moves on holiday! Thank you for such an in depth review. I must do one of my own!!!

Wow! Pro (Location) Sound Recordist here... What a fantastic product mate!... They sound superb, (WAY better than the RODEs IMO), and absol. FanTAStic performance in terms of 'Distance'. I love the whole 'almost'-hiding-in-plain-sight concept with the necklace option, and these would be a dream to work with on documentary shoots... (alas, unlikely to be aloowed tho' by most obsessive directors 😨). A stunning bit of kit for KZfaqrs tho' - will def. recommend to all in my YT community... Thanks a lot Harv, and 'Subbed' 🙏🏻 Bob K 🐭

Love the review, keep up the good work. I just want to say that the emoji stickers are not useful if you are not a teenager, but you miss that in the stickers bundle comes an all white and all black stickers as well, and this are very useful if you want to be discrete or you dont want the brand logo to be seen, for example in an all black or all white piece of clothing the mic goes almost unnotice if it has this black/white stickers on.

I'm really interested in these (to use alongside my Rode Wireless Go 2's) because of the form factor- and the sound. The only big fly in the ointment for me is that the only way to record 2 channels is using the camera receiver through the 3.5mm jack (All the USB C connections on that receiver and the mobile receivers are fixed to Mono-only) So if you use 2 mics you'll always be hearing the room sound from the other person, and can't gate that out or rebalance the channels. Maybe version 2?

The situation where you can get 40h with the charge case is when you use the USB-C or Lightning receiver on your phone. In that instance you wont need to charge the receiver as it is powered by the phone. So by only charging the 2 TX, you would get 3x 10h charges on top of the original charge.

When speaking of the stickers: don't forget they included black and white stickers, which (black, at least) will hide the logo and make the transmitters less obvious, especially with good style choices in clothing and placement (the white will leave a black ring, which I can't imagine doing any good, but if you buy the white version, then it's the opposite). Nope; the necklace is NOT a fashion item... no. But I do see where it may work in some cases. I just ordered mine, mainly for using with my iPhone. I have the Rode Wireless Go ll and love them on my X4; with the dead cats on I hear NO wind noise on my bike at 26 MPH! I think these coupled with the mic adapter on the X4, with noise suppression on at High will even cut out a lot of the electric bike motor and road noise the Rode setup picks up. For the money, I'm thinking these are the mics to beat at this point! Yes; a bit of on-board storage would be a great improvement.

Do you think this would be good for ASMR videos? Or should I get handheld audio recorder such as Sony PCM A10 w/ omnidirectional lav mic (such as Clippy or MicroUsi)? This Lark M2 seems good for voice, but what about ambience and soft sounds? It'd be great to hear your opinion. Thank you.

One interesting question about M2, can you use simultaneously one mic with camera receiver and one mic with the phone receiver, well, in different locations away from each other... Or what happens if you connect both the camera receiver and the phone receiver in the same location? Nobody tested that, and it would be interesting to know... Thank you.

I notice when you're walking outside, it doesn't sound as good. At 11:31, it sounds good. What do you use to improve the audio? Says With Eq, dynamic Eq and compression. Is that something that the mic does or do you need to further edit the audio in another app?

I’ve been struggling for weeks to figure something out from videos… when using the combo, can you record each mic to its own mono channel? Or is that impossible?
@casasdenick
@casasdenick 26 күн бұрын
I think to accomplish this you’d have to choose stereo recording, and then split the L & R so each is its own track. You’d then end up with two mono tracks. Not much extra work in the grand scheme of things.

I’m very interested in this Lark M2 for recording something like a podcast episode while I walk in nature . so I’m curious how it will pick up the ambient nature sounds - birdsong, the odd chipmunk, etc - and if my voice will still be able to dominate the recording . I wonder how much ‘play’ is afforded in editing - I don’t even know what software to use . any tips at all would be appreciated

Hmm this has really got the cogs turning! I’d say the key is to use subtractive EQ, compression, then additive EQ To get the best out of this system (to be honest, it’s probably a subject for an entire video so watch this space 😅). Really the focus of the lark m2 was to isolate the subjects voice, so instead I’d recommend a handheld recorder with inbuilt stereo mics (something like the Tascam x6 would be sublime), that way there would be less risk of the mics picking up the rustling of clothes/coat and more likely to capture some ambience. I hope this helps, my Tascam X8 review might make for an interesting watch kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iduYn8ZqyZjKkqs.htmlsi=7urDrNgtYl1LsmWK 👍🏻
