Stunning interview. I am a creative in Toronto, and as everyone knows we are always a decade or two behind NYC. Well, the gentrification of this city is stripping away the naked beauty, and it is tangible. Kensington Market, Queen West are gasping their last breath. Real estate for the very rich, who buy for investment have taken over (and the municipal government loves the fees paid to them for it), and the properties remain empty, communities are disappearing. Just one example of the measurable deluge that brilliant David Mamet is talking about. And God forbid that I speak of Trump among my so-called peers. Or the absolutely brilliant Dr. Jordan Peterson. And don't get me started on the lockstep of our so-called national media and all of the lemmings that jump over the cliff with their every word.

Mamet doesn't give him time to ask much. Mamet was on the Left and now on the Right, so I congratulate him for his change, though I am with either party and fear both, much more the Left. I liked House of Games and Homicide (movies) the most; American Buffalo was not very interesting. houseofgames has stilted conversation, deadpan humor, but the basic mystery and suspense hold up for even a repeated watching.

Rarely have I been able to sit through an entire interview and feel absolutely riveted. This was one of those rare times and it seems as if it fell into my lap without my seeking it out - just when I needed to hear it. Mr. Mamet is someone that I'd never even heard of and so I'm so glad that KZfaq presented this in my feed. I lived in NYC for a couple of decades and worked in the little Off-Broadway theaters from time to time so to hear his perspective on what's happening right now here and in our society as a whole is right on as far as I'm concerned. As for what is the purpose of art and what can we do to change the situation? I love the answer that states that we can't do anything because true art is inspiration in conjunction with an audience; it's very close to religion and about as far away from politics as it gets. I could go on and on because this interview was like sitting down to a rich meal; there was so much to savor and appreciate. Bravo Mr. Memet!! Thank you Mr. Rubin for posting this.

Folks have lost their curiosity sadly, BUT HAPPILY , THEY CAN FIND IT AGAIN , I'm a GENTILE , absolutely curious about this country called Israel ,Its a PHENOMENA in this dysfunctional world , WHY, is it forever a target of so many , yet there is invalid reason for such vendetta. Anyway , I went there to see for myself , 6 months , riding busses and scrubbing floors in a volunteer situation , MY EYES WERE OPENED , . FOLKS , I recommend you visit those people , be curious, it will change your life forever , I love The CURIOUS MIND OF ISRAEL , IT HAS BLESSED OUR WORLD IN THOUSANDS OF WAYS , I AM GRATEFUL FOR THEM ALL AND ESPECIALLY THE TORAH . ,GODS GREAT WISDOM, !

I also think this is a brilliant interview and agree with most of what David Mamet asserts. If I were to quibble with anything he said, Shakespeare was not a Jew (we're not even sure he was a real person; he may have been the Earl of Oxford using a pen name, and the Earl of Oxford was not Jewish), and Jesus Christ and Martin Luther King, Jr. were definitely NOT politicians. Again, these are quibbles, but Mr. Mamet should be commended for everything else he said to Dave Rubin.

I'm an urban planner who moonlights as an actor, I agree with what he's saying about cost escalation as the industry matures and delocalization as lower cost areas develop the skills to poach business. Thats just basic economics... the real problem with "the arts" outside of big business hollywood is the non profits, no one is accountable to their audience because they answer to a board of directors, and its incredibly difficult to operate as a for profit arts company because you have to compete with the subsidy.

You know probably know his work. He wrote The Untouchables, with Kevin Costner and Sean Connery, about Al Capone. The list goes on. He is a giant of the film industry from the 70s to the 2000s, who wrote and directed classics of that period.

There were not only Jews in concentration camps - in Dacau, every third person who died was a Polish priest. Understand that anyone who was against the push of Nazism was taken away and housed away from their homes, they were jailed.

Jews get all the attention whereas many others were also persecuted, locked up, murdered. Political dissidents, religious groups besides Jews, minority groups, those that refused to become Nazis and serve in military and many more. The Jews like to remind everyone.

" 'Do justice. love mercy and walk humbly with God'. Thats what God wants." David Mamut just quoted my favorite Bible verse that most people don't even know about. That is from Micah 6:8.. I always thought that was the one verse that could be used to sum up the whole Bible,. That was a pleasant surprise that causght me completely off guard!

Well said. Human nature doesn't change. We basically have the same needs as we always had. We've just made being stupid really easy. The stupid and lazy used to be weeded out by nature, but we support them now. We do have an obligation to help the less fortunate and provide opportunities for them. This message needs to be heard, thanks for sharing.

I'm a Christian who reads the Bible - including the Torah - regularly. I think I never heard a better explanation for what the Bible is trying to talk about than David Mamet's explanation here. I had heard of David Mamet, have seen a some of his stuff, but had no idea about how strongly the Torah fit into his world-view, and how that Biblical world-view relates to explaining HUMAN NATURE. I am going to seek out more David Mamet works, and books. He presented himself very, very convincingly in this interview.

I have English professor clients (husband/wife) who are dyed in the mule Democrats; I am classical liberal. We still talk friendly and respectfully. I believe consequences are the result of choices. They believe that consequences can be avoided when making foolish decisions. I believe life can only get better by beginning to make wise choices. They are not so sure about that.
