I recently rewatched Waterworld, which I loved as a kid but was prepared to discover as an adult was actually terrible, and I was surprised to discover that, while it’s definitely not a “good” movie, it’s also definitely not soulless trash! It’s pretty darn inventive and full of attention to detail in its physical world, and there are glimmers of real attempts to make something interesting... but it never quite gets there. A fascinating one to revisit! And you’re so right: it’s never boring!

@Light Sage I have seen objectively bad movies, like "Street Fighter," "The Room," "Birdemic," and "Sharknado" and I definitely enjoyed watching them, but "The Postman" simply doesn't fit in that category.

@@KroegerFan44 Bidermic and Sharknado are at least funny. And Sharknado is intentionally bad, while this movie is so dull, that you can show it to someone who has sleeping problems.

Steven Seagal might be the winner since almost everything he is in is a vanity project. On Deadly Ground being the most obvious example. Executive Decision and Machete being pretty being the only ones that aren't.

@@TheVolginator I don't know if it is. I'm not sure why he did it, what he got out of it... I *think* he was trying to indulge a certain type of fan, in a very "you want to smoke cigarettes? Okay, smoke the whole carton then" kind of way. (I think 3: Snake-eater is a perfect game, in the discussion for Greatest Game of All-Time along with Ocarina of Time, Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn/Throne of Bhaal... that's really it, IMO. My 2nd tier is stuff like the Mass Effect trilogy, Dragon Age: Origins... not sure if we can still put old classics up there, but I wouldn't object to some like Final Fantasy III, Super Mario 64, what have you. I'm not a fighting game fan or FPS fan, for the most part, so I'm sure I'm being unfair to some of the classics in that genre, like Halo, or... the game Counter-Strike was modded from. Although I think Halo is a worse version of Turok, which might be my favorite all-time FPS. Underrated as fuck. 5: Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain was even more fun to play, I think, than 3 on account of some of the best - maybe the best - gameplay I've ever experienced. And I think the story was pretty good, for what was there... just, you know, incomplete. I mean... "good" by the standards by which I judge MGS games: weird, silly, over-the-top nonsense that is fun because it's silly and it knows it's silly... I do think that how convoluted MGS is perceived to be is overblown though. Just because 1 - 4: Guns of the Patriots shouldn't be considered; 97% of how convoluted and terrible MGS is perceived to be is the fault of GotP, I think... and 2 - because each game was supposed to be stand-alone, he had to retcon a few things for the next game. I'm okay with it. And 1 and 2 largely hold up, although 2 is as great in concept as in execution, which... I can appreciate that it's a genius idea executed masterfully... but Kojima's focus was on that, I think, rather than fully on making a game that was fun to play, so... it's worth playing, but replaying it isn't anywhere near as fun as replaying 3 or 5, for instance. I just refuse to acknowledge 4... which works, because cutting it out of canon doesn't affect any other games, it's tacked on at the end.)

That's sort of how I feel about it. My mom loved this book & movie, so watched it & talked about it a lot when I was a teenager. It still feels like comfort food when I watch it, despite all its flaws. The idea is not _as bad_ as everyone says: communication & the ability to connect is the center of not only civilization, but what it means to be human. It's about the ability to connect & to remember. The concept, which is better laid out in the novel, is a bit cheesy, but it's still good.

You know how "The Postman" could have been better? If the bad guy was called "Hate Costner Man" (because his character is not a fan of the titular character) You know how "Death Stranding" could have been better? If it was a good game

"A Cure For Wellness" is a visually stunning, incredibly nasty gem of a weirdo horror movie that is burdened with - as you said - about an hours worth of garbage that should never have been filmed

@@inframeout The funny thing to me is that if I turned that script in for coverage I guarantee 9/10 of the services would make that same assessment. I don't understand why more mainstream scripts aren't tightened up this way before shooting.

No joke. I saw it when I was kid and still enjoy it. I don't know if I'd go as far as saying it's the best but it's definitely not as bad as some people make it out to be.

@@inframeout as I was running away I could see rubber bullets bouncing off light poles and paper boxes right next to me. I was fortunate to make it to the end of the block and could take cover, just got a good dose of gas. As I was recovering from that I saw a group of guys carrying an injured guy toward me. I started filming and taking pictures, they set him down and started treating him with a medics pack they had with them. That's when I started noticing the symbols on some of their clothes. Then they started noticing me. That was pretty scary too. I decided it was time to leave at point.

Tom Hanks is a neutral/bordering on villainous supporting role in TTYD rather than a glorifying central performance, so I'd just consider it an absolutely fantastic film
