The White Sox's plan for potentially building a new stadium in the South Loop is seemingly moving along at a fast rate. The team is talking with a developer about building a new stadium on a long-underdeveloped 62-acre parcel of land near Roosevelt Road and Clark Street, but would that be good for the city of Chicago? Dan Bernstein, Laurence Holmes, Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel had a lively debate about that topic in transition.

If Jerry wants to pay for it I'm all in, but don't expect the citizens to pick up the bill for a billionaire who wants to be cheap. Cubs renovated Wrigley out of their own money and so should the White Sox

If the Sox move to the 78. That needs to be a stadium with some sort of roof. To replace the Rate & lots, the stadium needs to be renovated & part of its own entertainment or innovation district

Lawrence is absolutely correct here and this should be a bigger topic. I get both sides of the coin and a new stadium is objectively a good thing for the team, but stripping the existing neighborhood of a huge lifeline is history repeating itself. That neighborhood needs the White Sox to either stay or have a good plan in mind to reuse those facilities. If not, this is unacceptable and unfair to a largely minority population.

The people that say the current park is fine, I get it. I'm basically right there with you. But here's the reality: Stay at 35th & Shields and the team is gone. No one is going to buy that team and keep it at that location. It will be sold to someone out of state and moved to another city. Quit making this about Jerry. Jerry is 88 years old and he's going to be long gone. This new park will be for us the fans, to keep the team in Chicago and for the next owner. Maybe the Fire would like to move into Guaranteed Rate. It would be nice if the current park/neighborhood wasn't completely abandoned. Lawrence renounced his White Sox fandom, I heard him say it... so whatever.

Downtown location is better for the following reasons: 1. Still have access to the Red and Green Lines with the Orange Linee added and the Blue Line is only 4 blocks away. 2. The area is safer. Less jagoffs from the projects next to ballpark trying to ripoff people parking or straight up robbing them.

In the end i think they may still disagree but can respect and understand where the other was coming from. Im not a chicago sports fan yet i am now subscribed and a fan of this group. So tired of the angry yelling and screaming. They yell because they cant hear the other person and they have to be correct. Its not about the actual discussion with those shows. If you think people do not attend White Sox games because they don't want to walk there, you're not paying attention. The White Sox fans don't want to attend games when they are competing for fourth place. Jerry complains that he didn't get 3 million in 2006. If they had been competitive the second half of 2006, if they had decided to remain competitive they would have had no attendance problems. Sell the team Jerry.

There was a mention here about a sweetheart deal that the Sox reached with the state so they couldn't develop around 35th? Can anyone tell me more about that? Is there an article somewhere that explains that? I'm a Cubs fan, but as a Chicago guy the Sox are my #2 team. I think that 78 property would be great for the Sox, but also think that could developed with much better general city improvements. I would love to see the Sox stay at 35th and maybe do another stadium on the same property, facing this city with the skyline in the back, and then develop the neighborhood so it's in own special area that people want to visit and live in. Expand the greatness of Chicago. Why can't that happen?

When New Comiskey was built it was a mutual agreement where the Illinois Sports Authority allowed Jerry to keep parking revenue. It was at a time when the focus was to get people to drink and spend money inside the park versus around the stadium before and after. Also Daley and Bridgeport residents didn't want to turn the parking lots into a 24/7 partyville entertainment district like Wrigleyville. Sox got special permission from the Sports Authority to build their team store and White Sox bar and grill at Lot B. I don't think building on Old Comiskey site is realistic because they are constrained with space because they can't interfere with the historic Armour Park. While the trend has changed in baseball the last decade to own the entertainment and real estate around ballparks, I think Jerry knows current location is not suitable for that unless The Sports Authority and Bridgeport budges and let's them build their ballpark village at 35th. If not, then only realistic location besides suburbs is 78 and timing is of essence since he can piggyback with all the tax incentives that the city has already granted First Midwest.

I grew up in the South and say - let the team move to Nashville which is a small market. Southerners are crazy about college basketball and college football. They do not care about baseball. Atlanta is not the south (except before General Sherman burned it down) so the Braves are an anomaly. Let Jerry lose millions in Nashville then beg to come back to Chicago.😂

Honestly, I think 78 property is wonderful idea much more for the Bears than for the White Sox. What they should actually do is rebuild modernized version of old Comiskey on same plot of land as it once stood for 80 years. Where Guarantee Rate Fields stands now develop land into a walking plaza of bars, stores and restaurants.

If it's about the new shiny toy to increase his enjoyment, spiegs is for it. Do not ask this guy to think about anything more serious than his own fun. Jerry Reinsdorf is the cheapest owner in baseball. If you listed all the tools salaries paid to any one player ever for all the MLB teams, the White Sox are guaranteed to be at the bottom. And he has the nerve to demand tax payer money now at his age 88 to build a new stadium to in his mind raise the value of the franchise so he can sell the team for a higher price. This guy Reinsdorf is really something. But people like Spiegs who only care about their enjoyment do not care about holding Reinsdorf accountable and then the whole abandoning the south side thing is also repulsive

What most seem to not understand is that it's going to be more than just a stadium. It's going to be a new year round neighborhood. That's how it's going to benefit the city. Just remember that few wanted Navy Pier and Millennium Pk. And look at how the city has benefited. The investment was more than worth it and so would building a new neighborhood with a stadium as it's anchor. Look at Wrigley. People go to Cubs games because of the neighborhood. Talk to most Cubs fans. They don't know much about Baseball because they go to games because of the neighborhood. This is a no brainer.

This would be the best thing for the Sox and in an incredible location!!! This is the main problem with Sports Talk Radio, you pit one opinion against the other because it's good radio and it helps ratings in an ultra competitive market. Even though it's probably not, one might think in those moments the perception that it's scripted which justifiably announcers will deny as I may qualify regardless having the Sox future close to Downtown Chicago with location and revenue streams brings this franchise in a more competitive nature and giving them a chance to be back on par with the Cubs.
