Mr. Geslewitz, what a man. I would've loved to meet him. His sense of humor and outlook amazed me, especially after all that he endured. Hearing him speak about his wife & building a family again brought tears to my eyes. Blessed to hear his testimony. We must keep this history alive. 🇺🇲🙏🏻🇬🇧❤🇮🇱✌🏻

Quite annoyed with the interviewing technique shown here. Not only was she pushy, rude and disrespectful but she failed to establish the names and ages of the family, only finding out his mother's name as his first daughter was named after her. But saying that, Daniel's testimony shone through and I thoroughly enjoyed every word he was allowed to say. Thank you

This man was much nicer than I would have been being shushed by the interviewer. I understand they probably have to be "robotic" but this was not right. I hope he lives(d) an amazing life full of all of the best life could give.

What a beautiful person! You can tell as she said wonderful parents. Interviewer is rude, shushed him. He is not a child and that is truly inappropriate as Jews had the ultimate shushing!

One more thing - for those that are horrified by the interviewer. Watch enough of these testimonies, and you'll see that the interviewers clearly must have been asked by the foundation to use this kind of abrupt interviewing method, because almost ALL of them do it...

I believe the issue was that the Shoah foundation did many of these interviews in the mid to late 1990’s. They were done by unprofessional & inexperienced people. I almost threw up when they shushed & told this man to keep quiet at several points. & the sad thing is that all of the survivors were very submissive to this. If it were me I would say“ I didn’t survive the holocaust to get disrespected in my own house. Now get out!”

The interviewer was so rude and pushy. She should just listen to him speak about it instead of talking over him and guessing wrong. Very condescending tone. Is it his story or yours? #jumpingthegun

At 36:22 The transcription of Daniel states that their friend had a "letter" business. Daniel was saying "leather" business. My father could not say our "th" sound. Here he is saying it as a "t" sound so it sounds like "letter."

These survivors are so incredibly strong. I end up falling in love with each 1ofthemthey'rejustsospecialandgoodpeople. Yes the interviewer was a bit rough... I think that's just her personality but he didn't seem to take it personal so as long as he wasn't affected by it. It's fine

Oh, my goodness! I replied earlier to a comment during this gentleman's testimony regarding the person conducting the interview. Well, I've listened further. The Foundation was interviewing survivors of genocide mostly in the mid to late '90's. Most were senior citizens who needed breaks, food, hydration, and respect. They're also likely receiving no compensation for sharing their stories. This woman is horrid. I still stand by my earlier comment, but this woman is up there with Merle Goldberg. "I absolutely agree that the abrasive and interrogative manner conducted by those interviewing survivors is horrific. With that being said, the foundation was established in 1993, 'Schindler's List' height of success. It appears as though the video testomials were a scramble that began in 1995, which is not enough time to educate nor devise a training curriculum. ***(I was wrong about "SFI", specifically, regarding compensation) Regardless of what people believe, those who interview for foundations are paid unless they waive compensation. (This is true...one who signs up with SFI, waives compensation)A non-profit is a tax-exempt status with the IRS. People are employed and paid by non-profit foundations. It would be illegal not to pay employees. Those who are interviewing early on were likely not screened properly, nor trained well. This was nearly 30 years ago...Well, I was wrong once again. SFI does not compensate interviewers. You get what you pay for. Expect more of the same with their new program. They will receive 5 to 10 hours of training and no compensation.

All the hate for the interviewers is starting to really annoy me. Who are you to judge? What did YOU do to help? Write more crap here? C'mon people.. scratch behind your ear for a little bit and think about your own behavior. This kind of hate, simply based on how a person speaks or asks questions is disgusting and the very reason war and genocide exists.

Yes, this is not a simple chat and interview for amusement, this is filmed testimony (some should google what that word means) about those horrible things that happened and therefore there must be facts recorded as detailed as possible, that's why they ask to spell names etc. They've done amazing job and spent hours and hours interviewing these people and we should bow them for their job. We should never forget and thanks to these interviews we never will.

Another human being who survived inhumanity. These stories suffered from technical problems, incl. starting/stopping, background noise e.g. ringing phones etc. The emotional impact these survivors re-lived in the telling was exacerbated by the technical problems. All the spelling out of names, the need to repeat things between takes: this was amateur stuff, shouldn't have happened. I guess it was innovative and it was as good as could be done at the time.

Because the interviewer is too thick to realize you can look things up and figure out the spelling later instead of constantly interrupting him. Yes, it's a historical account and it would be nice to actually hear the story without her interrupting constantly and talking over him.
