@@squitzl You'd have to go back and find the streams mentioning it because I can't remember exactly what she said, but it was a very bad time for her self esteem and life situation in general from what I remember. Just...not a good time for her overall. I think I also remember her getting really emotional when she and Calli were playing It Takes Two during a part with having to go out on a stage in the game, due to it reminding her of a time where she was told to perform on stage, but no one even clapped for her despite her trying to give it her all, and Calli did her best to try and cheer Kiara up. There's been some examples of it that I remember she had mentioned, but I can't remember all the details. All I can say is that joining Hololive (and if it wasn't for Pekora, she wouldn't have tried at all in the first place) saved her in more ways than one.

​@@technomancermagus8357 Honestly, with how hardworking,talented, and dedicated she is it doesn't really surprise me She's on another level, and straight up built different, no hate to the other girls but I can see them being discussed in a meeting to talk about the pros and cons While Calli isn't my favorite streamer (that would have to go to Ina) her music is well written, and I've yet to find a song from her that was just bad, some aren't for me but they are still really good songs

It's also interesting that she didn't think she had a shot in hell of getting the job and only applied after being pushed by one of her friends who also was applying.

When you look at the initial promotional materials for HoloEN, its obvious they thought Calli was going to be the anchor. On paper she has the strongest resume by far. Debuts with a banger single on the same day. By contrast for Gura I'm not convinced they even knew she could sing (way) more than just City Pop...

Well, Hololive/Cover was already pretty established company at that point, and the girls already passed presumably a couple of interviews and auditions to get to the final selection. The talk could only mean a good thing. Not like they would need to talk to them immediately if they were rejected lol.

I think they have like several dozen models pre-made and they assign models to suit voice and personality. So we could've very easily gotten a whole different myth

@@bman296 I remember a LOOOOONG time ago, it was mentioned that after parts of the audition, you are given a few to pick from and then Audition for the one wanted out of what's matched. If they are accepted, they get to request certain changes to the model- Gura originally wanted an ahoge but got told no or how Calli originally wanted a smaller bust but it grew on her and decided to leave it as is. Really brings to perspective how tightly they try to match image to the voice. this also means Goob gave them "Gremlin" and that makes me cackle.

I believe Gura has stated that she was not happy with herself prior to Hololive. She built up a certain image of herself that she didn't want to continue with. She was pretty successful, yes, but it was also not healthy. She's much happier with herself nowadays. Ina, on the other hand, has stated that she was stuck in a rut. She has a successful career as an Illustrator but she said she felt empty inside (which is why she likes to make Ina of the Void jokes). She talked about her passion for drawing fading even though it meant so much to her. How she would spend day in and day out just doing the same thing (eat, sleep, draw) and wondered if this was it for her in life. She was also unable to play games because of immense guilt of "I could be drawing right now". In essence, Ina was burned out. Joining Hololive has given her passions a new lease on life. She's excited about drawing again and streaming has given her a convenient excuse to play games ("I'm actually working right now, hehe").

I think she could have re-built her KZfaq image if she really tried(would have been a very lengthy process, but I think she still could have made it work), but still very happy for her that she used Hololive as a redo button for her image.

without a doubt it was a ray of light for kiara and all of us, but that makes me think of all the other girls who also auditioned and were not accepted, many could be in that same situation or worse, it is really scary

She used to mention it a lot in her early streams, I think for a few months she was still working as a teacher, as she couldn't just quit her job immediately after joining Hololive She would call it "scythe lessons" but later she pretty much confirmed she was an english teacher for japanese kids, the most common way a foreigner gets a visa to work in Japan

She made frequent mentions of teaching little reapers in her first several months.

She was working as freelance animator, teacher English to kids and hololive together for the first 3 months after debut, then she dropped both and focused on hololive only. Now outside hololive she just mostly a singer she don't need multiple jobs since money it's not a problem anymore

models are already being finalized when they get the call and they get more or less randomly assigned them. They have 0 impact on who they get as the decisions were already made. At the absolute most they might be able to make some minor changes but the overall model is decided

@@Thisisnotasign This is especially true if the company is putting together a theme for the gen or batch. They can be flexible to make some changes to match whoever gets assigned the character but they want to stick close to the plan for the group

The models were basically all done by the time the girls were hired. And Hololive *does* try to match them with the voice/personality of the person, they're not completely random. But if you were in, you were getting one of those 5 models, it's not like there were other options. Also, Gura has mentioned before that they were allowed to make very minor tweaks that didn't affect rigging. So, like she wasn't able to get bottom teeth or bigger pigtails added, but she *was* able to get the blue streaks added in her hair.

As the previous comments said, that is for most of the talents, Suisei being the exception.

Cover also used to do auditions for specific models that were publicly visible, as well as direct recruitment of talents that they want to hire for a specific character. I believe this ended after 3rd gen and now they hold blind auditions instead so the applicants won't even know what role they're applying for. Cover is also apparently pretty picky when it comes to their talent selection. You can't just be talented, you need to be talented in a way that works for the character concept they have. For example, they had two designs ready and there were public auditions specifically for those models. The two were eventually scrapped because Cover couldn't find anyone suitable for just those two models even though they probably get thousands of applications to choose from. As an aside, the model's illustrators went on to create new designs that exist now as Lui and Chloe of HoloX. It really makes you wonder sometimes how the whole thing works. Like Hakka for example is as Hispanic as can be despite the design being one of the most Japanese in the company. So the criteria they look for in their talents don't appear to be as obvious as the designs alone would imply. And thank goodness for that since a lot of talents we've come to know and love may not have gotten in if that was the case including some Myth members too.

Possibly. I know Kiara applied during the later part of the submission period but she said she got accepted super quickly (I mean considering her talents and resume it’s an obvious choice). But yeah I think either Ina, Gura or Ame were the late picks if any had to wait around or past the deadline
