Because its polite and makes sense really to be fair and split. As always japan is the place for respect. Its funny how its a crazy concept to want to be equals or not owe someone something or feel bad about making someone else pay for you too. That should be the norm but in western countries its slowly being more accepted to split and such which is good because equality or not owing. If your treating sure then that's good too.

Not necessarily a date. Dude, a "friend" gave me a birthday present, his present was Rainbow Six Siege. After almost 3 years, we rarely had the chance to play it together. Then an unfortunate event happened between us and I decided to cut contacts with him and some others. Then after about 8 months later this particular friend decided to make a step and persuaded me with a "conversation", and one of his topics was (I gave you this game and blablabla) I didn't say anything to the guy, and when he finished his unnecessary and ridiculous rant I went silent for a bit to told to myself (wow man, to bring this up to the conversation? This guy is nuts) Then I just replied that it was a present, why are you reproaching at it? I didn't asked you to gave that, it was a nice move and I liked it, you were inviting me and the others to play alongside you, but in fact, you barely touched the game and you're trying to blame me because of that, even so, I have more hours of gameplay than you, and I was always looking forward to play with you. After that I told him, do you want me to give you money/repay for it? I don't have problems, I'll give you the money and we'll be without any kind of debt. Then he decided to say good bye and such. So yeah, not only dates, but people who want to things back after they do/gave something to you, even as stupid as a present.

The way Towa approached it is what I was taught to do (whether it was family, friends, or dates) - make the offer to pay or split the bill the first time they say "I'll pay" but if the other person insists after that, then you can let them treat and thank them nicely. I was told that it wasn't good etiquette to just accept that they would pay cause it seems greedy - even if I know they're going to insist, I still have to do the dance for politeness sake.

Man, of course “mou ii kara” is a strong line to say, it shows that you are getting annoyed. I like how Aqua knows that some people would say “I’ve spent so much money on you.”, there are some people who will take that excuse out to make you feel like you debt them though, and it’s really annoying. If you offer to pay then you shouldn’t bring it out for an argument. It’s very unwise and disrespectful.

I love how this scenario shows their personality too. I also love how fast Botan, Towa and Ayame dipped, lol. Though, I really do love Rushia's response cuz of that gender equality thing. For me, I would honestly don't mind paying for the dinner bill as long as I can afford it, but if my date suggest paying for it, why not split it instead, so neither party doesn't feel like they owed someone or something. But the most important of all is both of them having a great time together :)

I'll be honest, I appreciate the ladies that chose to try and pay 2 or less times. If he is just being stubborn about it, don't make it a fight. Just find a way to pay outside or next time. No need to make a scene.
