I'm guessing that toy works like a regular lie detector. Even if you're telling the truth, but your pulse is too high from pressure or being way too nervous, it'll still taze you. Whereas even if you lie, as long as you can trick yourself to thinking what you say is the truth, you could be calm enough to cheat it.

The way lie detectors work is they read the changes in a number of things like heart rate, so it doesn't matter if she told the truth or not since she's in pure panic mode the whole time.
