Played both Suites when I was in the Army Band, (also at the the H.S. of Music & Arts in NYC). Played both clarinet and the Bb bass clarinet, loved, and still do, the woodwinds lines

Ha! Never ceases to amaze me what's on YT. I played this in high school, one of the floundering tuba players at the back. We tried...

+Michael Mitchell haha yeah I'm playing 1st and 3rd movement in my senior band at school and i guess we tried 😂 ... most of the chromatics in here were cut out for us..

Holst's compositions are truly magnificent in how they all express such depth of feeling and it really gives the listener a chance to feel as he did when he wrote them. This is probably his finest piece for military band, while the planets a hands down best for his orchestral compositions.

This is my absolute favorite piece of composed symphonic music of all time! Played this in my High School Symphonic District Band and literally cried while playing the tuba part near the end of Chaconne. Such a powerful piece of music through all three movements and I encourage every musician to experience playing this. Absolutely soul-piercing to hear live.

I love these songs. I played the whole suite 3 times and all on bass clarinet(recently played this year for band camp for this year). The first movement gives me goosebumps every time when I hear it. This whole suite is one of my most favorites of Holst. He writes such beautiful literature.
