My Mom just passed away on September 4th, and as a 12 year old in 1971, listened to this song over and over on the radio. Brings back memories of my playing football, basketball and baseball with the neighborhood kids in Canarsie, Brooklyn, NY. Mom would make sure to call me up for supper. Oh how I miss those days, and how I miss Mommy. 😢

This is my favourite version of Wild Horses, it's shows off the talents of each member of the band because the arrangement is so delicate. You can hear every note so clearly which is not always the case with The Stones. It's a really soulful rendition.

A brilliant tune - written by Mick after his breakup with Marianne Faithful. A beautiful, wistful song about hard times in a relationship you can feel slipping away, but want desperately to hold onto. Great choice and great reaction as always - peace and love from Canada!
@jamesscully529
@jamesscully529 Жыл бұрын
Mick now claims its wasn't about Marianne, that it was written well after that relationship. Maybe he is getting old and is started to lose his memory (LOL). Both him and Keith do remember working on it with Gram Parsons, himself a legend, who was a buddy of Keith's at the time which explains the country flavour.
@alphajava761

Richards wrote the lyrical hook about leaving his new born song to go on a tour. Mainly, Richards comes up with the lyrical hooks and Jagger fills in the rest of the lyrics. Not with all of their songs but a good portion of them. Some songs are written by Jagger or Richards entirely. It's rumored that Richards came up with the hook while in the bathroom at Muscle Shoals studio, at that time Richards was using so hanging out in bathrooms goes hand in hand with that.
@jamesscully529
@jamesscully529 Жыл бұрын
@@alphajava761 I had forgotten that story. Sister Morphine has more to do with Marianne Faithfull than Wild Horses. I can usually tell, especially later on, the stuff Keith wrote versus Mick. Mick is more of a three chords guy while Keith has all those open tunings.

This was/is one of the Stones biggest hits. What's more, out of the multitude of hits they have had over their 60 years, this is the song that has stood the test of time the best. This song came out 50 years ago and still gets played more than any other Rolling Stones song. Another thing that blows you away is when you think this band still has 3 original members in it. Is Mick Jagger the "best singer" (whatever "best" is)? No. Neither is Bob Dylan. Neither is David Bowie. BUT... Mick is the only person who can be him. Like Dylan can only be Dylan, and none can be Dylan any better. And Bowie is inarguable as the universe's perfect attempt at creating David Bowie. So perfect, that after each of them being brought into their individual existences, the universe says to itself, "Welp, good job, Universe. You nailed it! Time for a nap..."

I'm so glad that you are reacting to the Stones. The soundtrack of my youth in the 60s and 70s. Some of their great ballads are ANGIE, RUBY TUESDAY AND LADY JANE. WILD HORSES is my favorite. When Brian Jones died, Mick's gf Marianne Faithful was so distraught. Mick wrote Wild Horses for her. Just so you know, Mick wrote AS TEARS GO BY and gave it to Marianne Faithful who had a huge hit with it in the 60's. You shouldvlisten to the Stones recording of it and hers. So happy younger generations are being introduced to this music.

This was from the "Muscle Shoals" recodings, when the Stones, after hearing bands like Credence Clearwater Revival, changed their style, and recorded some of their most beautiful Ballads. The song "Angie" is another of their softer ballads and also shows the range of music they are capable of writing. Love your reactions, this era produced songs every week from dozens of great bands and artists. We didn't know how fortunate we were....

Love this song and this version! Also love the version of “Wild Horses” by the Sundays. This version was used in a video involving Mary Walhberg and Reese Witherspoon on a roller coaster. Super sensual

Wow, that was really cool! I've never heard/seen this studio version before. I think this was probably their first "slow" hit (1971).

My sister (a huge Stones fan) requested this be played at her funeral, along with a Bob Dylan song. A request that we honored. I tear up every time I hear this song, so sad yet beautiful tune.

I'm a little embarrassed to say I've never been a tremendous RS fan. I'm a fan of several songs but I'm not like a diehard fan. But man, the vocals and freaking HARMONIES on this is so damn good!

The rolling Stones always sounded like themselves. They've established their own authenticity. But while listening to this it occurred to me that The Band with Levon Helms singing could do a really strong cover of this song.

Now listen to The Sundays cover of Wild Horses. Personally like The Sundays cover better. As an aside, all of The Sundays songs are good to superb. They are a underappreciated band that decided to stop to focus on family. Got to respect that. They only made three albums but they are all good.

Nice song. This was remade years later by other artists such as The Sundays, Garth Brooks, Natasha Bedingfield, Susan Boyle, Bishop Briggs, Alicia Keyes ft. Adam Levine. I'm not sure if you have reacted to their 1980 hit "Emotional Rescue." If you haven't, I suggest you give it a go. Patreon Movie Suggestions: Candyman (1992) with Virginia Madsen and Tony Todd (perfect for Halloween), Cannery Row (1982) with Nick Nolte and Debra Winger, Can't Buy Me Love (1987) with Patrick Dempsey and Amanda Peterson.

Great reaction to one of the most iconic rock ballads . As a long time Stones fan I am use to hearing “ Mick can’t sing, Keith and Ronnie can’t play , Charlie ( rip) wasn’t a great drummer, etc” but collectively through the Brian Jones era, Mick Taylor era and even today they are the greatest rock band ever.
