If you are going to learn a new style of fishing, it never hurts to learn from a true legend at what you are doing. That's where John Dunlap comes in. Up until this trip, I'd never caught a speckled fish in my life. So when my fraternity brother and good friend, Tommy Rogers, invited me to his place in Lakeport, FL for a day of speck fishing on Lake Okeechobee, I couldn't say yes fast enough. He also shared with me that I would be in the company of one of the finest crappie fisherman in the history of Lake O. When Tommy went on to tell me that John Dunlap was from my families home state of West 'By God' Virginia, I knew I was in for a treat. With 60 years of experience speck fishing on Lake O it was an opportunity to hang with a guy who truly had forgotten more speck fishing than most will ever learn. We were also joined by Tommy's best friend, Marsad Quraishi, a hell of a fisherman in his own right. This is a day I will truly cherish for a long time.
