Well, round two of Homax Tough as Tile paint is finished and drying. The tub looks brand new from scratched up and missings spots of enamel. The Homax Tough as Tile brush on roll on was far more intense of fumes than the spray can style. But the spray can style turns into mist in the air and sticks stuff somewhat.

Me, secretary/Roofing & painting .... I'm getting ready to do this job to a "country farm, deep" sink. I'm very excited reading the reviews on this product. Is there any harsh odor during this process? (open windows w/ventilation)? I finished watching the entire video ... my question has been answered. Even though the sink is in the kitchen w/a big enough window and ceiling fan I don't know if I want to take this on. But thank you very much for this information

I just bought spray can kit of Homax Tough as Tile. It's going to be round 2 the first was the 21oz. can the wasn't enough and didn't cure in the center of the tub by 4 day after final coat of three coats. So I have scraped the brush on roll on kind of Homax Tough as Tile out of the center of the tub, sanded it, I'm going to clean+rinse, acid etch+rinse, sand more if needed, alcohol clean, and paint with Homax Tough as Tile. I will keep you updated I might make some video to post KZfaq of it. I think your the guy with video that told I would update once I have the supply's and Homax Tough as Tile spray can style of paint to finish the re enamel job I have been doing on the tub at my apartment!🛁

Spray can style Homax Tough as Tile dry time 75° F maybe a week. The brush on, roll on type in a 21oz can dry time two weeks to a month, and not enough to do a standard sized tub. Homax needs to make a 40oz can of the brush on roll on to be enough epoxy paint for a standard sized tun with 3 coats. I am not sure about the spray can style, because I used it to touch up paint the spots missing the roll on style paint epoxy paint were it was not dry and I messed it up by getting wet after 4 days of drying and i had the heater set at 74°f. Plus the front of the tub needed painted and wasn't enough in 21oz can of roll, on brush Homax tough as to do more than the top of the tub and the inside of the tub.

Great video, thanks for taking the time to do this and show people. I messed up my bathroom sink with paint stripper trying to remove a spilled bottle of super glue. Yeah, I know, I'm a clutz :/ I plan on removing the faucet and hopefully the drain if it's not too much hassle. I just ordered mine from Amazon for $30 and I read a review that they said it doesn't last long. Since making this video, do you have any comment on that of how long it lasted? Is it still holding up?

do you think the 2 cans are enough for a bathtub ?
@jonesmachineco
@jonesmachineco 5 жыл бұрын
So I think the two spray paint can should be able to do one bathtub. I know I was able to do a shower enclosure with 1 kit
@cecengineer
@cecengineer 4 жыл бұрын
One way to get around the fumes and save money is to use the brush-on paint. I did one before and am going to do it again on an old beat up tub. The kit is cheaper and it does not have to be a fantastic job, as it is a rental apartment. One tip I have is get the best quality paint brush you can, as you can brush it on and virtually not see any brush strokes. Also you do not need to mask next to the caulking. It is best to remove the caulking and redo afterwards anyway.

I did exactly that and the center of tub the paint dry hard.
@cecengineer
@cecengineer 4 жыл бұрын
@@joshuamoore24_7 So it worked OK for you? It needs to cure for three days at about 25 °C (80°F), before you use the tub again. So you need to plan ahead. ie, take a shower and realize you either have to go without , or shower elsewhere in between.
@joshuamoore24_7
@joshuamoore24_7 4 жыл бұрын
@@cecengineer I kept the temperature above 70° F. Where it pooled up at in the center of the bottom of the tub is where it had a problem drying. I waited 4 days before showering and it wasn't fully cured. The instructions said 70°F to 80° F. I kept it at above 70°F. I waited for 5 more days before trying to shower again and it was like puddy under my feet with my body weight and hot water under on it. So I have scraped up about a five inch by three foot section. I am going to try the spray on kind. The roll on kind looked fine after the third coat, but some of it self leveled into small thicker spots in the center of the bottom of the tub.
@cecengineer
@cecengineer 4 жыл бұрын
@@joshuamoore24_7 Sounds to me like you put it on too thick somewhere and even if you set the temperature above 70°F, the actual temperature is usually less than 70°F, due to heat loss. Did you actually use a thermometer to make sure it was at 80°F? It depends on your home's heating efficiency, accuracy of your thermostat and the insulation. You need to set up a portable heater, put as close as possible and check the temperature regularly. The bathroom fan will lower the temperature by 10° F, so set up a separate lamp instead. Sand the bad area, clean off the dust and touch it up as suggested on the manufacturers instructions and videos and cure properly.

@@cecengineer I already prepared the area that's repainted some. It didn't dry enough maybe the temperature of tub was around 70°f or less even though the air temperature was higher.

If you hold the can too far the paint will atomize mid-air and lay on almost a dusty, rough finish. It's a fine line laying it on as a nice smooth gloss with no runs

Horrible results I got! With my bath tub and I did everything by the instructions! Even let the dry for 4 days and guess what the paint still did not dry completely, I mean , yes it was hard to the touch and it did look ready to go ,but no it was not , the plastic curtain liner stuck in some spots and a plastic mat that has suction cups totally ruined it ! What the hell! Now I'm stuck with what to do remove the bathtub ,strip it or what!! I used a 95 dust mask and it was ok not too bad but not as good as a regular respirator. I AM MAINTANANCE PERSON BY TRADE SO YES I do know how to repair stuff.

Very surprised it's a one part paint. Not a true epoxy without a catalyst. Laid on good, 2 small fisheyes. 2nd coat will seal them up, we shall see about longevity. I used to reglaze professionally and it was always a clear adhesive basecoat followed by 2 coats 2 part urethane. Topkote brand

Can't complain though, it flows out surprisingly well for a whizzie

HORRIBLE, I did a fiberglass tub insert and followed directions perfectly, as I am selling my house, and it wasn't NEARLY enough to finish. And the smell is so bad, my entire house sticks and it's been 24 hours with the windows opened and the paint is dry!! I would NOT recommend this product. MAYBE if you only need to do a sink or just a tub that's not fiberglass, it would work, but it's too expensive and when I opened the can, it was only 3/4 filled, 21 oz to do two coats of an entire fiberglass insert was not nearly enough. I am sorry I used it.
