I just came across this, and since no one seemed to have answered this here yet, might as well give my two cents! ^^ (Let's see if I manage to put this stuff into words xD) For me this video ewokes a rather bitter sweet feeling? It's becouse of the mix between the lyrics and knowing these characters. The beginning has this feeling of uncertainty, as if he's questioning if leaving everytime is something he really wants. He clearly missed Moomin during his travels, and with the lyrics it almost suggests him questioning if leaving makes him in some way "bad". Than the realisation that Moomin verry likely loves someone else, so maybe leaving, despite all the struggles on the way, is a method to protect himself from his feelings. That just seems verry sad to me. But whenever he feels lonely or down, he can remember that there is a place he can come back to, with people that are important for him. Then when spring comes around, there is this pure euphoria about the fact that he can go back now. His reunion with Moomin is so cute, and the flashes of all their adventures are somewhat nostalgic. It's ewokes this short moment of happines. And then the end roles around.. and Snufkins expression just suggests that he knows time is running out and he will be leaving again soon. Then we get this last interaction with Moomin, and him leaving seems less like something he wants, and more like something he NEEDS to do. Leaving pains him, becouse a part of him wants to stay, but he's leaving non the less. And Moomin acceptd it, becouse at this point that's the only thing he can do. It's sad, and bittersweet, becouse he's leaving again, but leaving also means he will come back in spring. This howl video and song just paint the picture of a heart vs mind kind of situation, sort of. Where one half wants to stay, and the other wants to go, and returning is the only time both halfs are equaly happy. But that's obviously just how I interpretated things and how they make me feel xD Other people might have a completely different view point/reason for why this hurts/makes them sad xD

Bawled like a baby after the ending because not only is this animatic just that powerful, but I wish my life was somewhat like this. I don't really have a support system or friend group so I won't lie, it hurt a bit, but in a way where I was happy for Snufkin. Just made me look at my own life a little bit

Because I like many deeply relate to Snufkin and this animatic captured the emotion and the relationship so well with all of the heartbreak moments and the joys and past memories it feels really nostalgic and at the same time expectant and it just amazing. And because all of it is related to, it feels personal and hurts while being amazing

okay okay okay just HOLY SHIT-- your understanding of storyboarding is just beyond fantastic, you really just have a very clear and fluid animation/storyboarding style that is really breathtaking to watch in motion. but, beyond that--- this is such a beautiful, earnest, and perfect representation of snufkin. the push-pull of wanderlust and love, avoidance and desire. it's obviously something that comes up in most snufkin-centric art but the details you used to convey it really gave it a depth and a realism. tbh i feel like i *got* it for the first time, like fully *felt* it. the panic of feeling closed in, mixed with guilt for feeling that way (reinforced by lyrics and visuals, the hesitant glance towards the woods and the lyrics "am i homeless? or just heartless?" and the scenes with teety-woo and the groke as snufkin ruminates on his fear of not being able to love in the way moomin needs, wants, etc. -- the way he clutches his hand at 1:31 was *heartwrenching*-- also, similarly, snufkin's pained expression as snorkmaiden and moomin kiss with "am i loveless? or do i just love less?" oh my godddddddd) the giddiness of wanderlust, the overwhelming and overflowing joy of this part of snufkin's life-- he wants this, he needs this, and eventually his shame for wanting it starts to give way (the way snufkin skips after leaving the note and properly heading on his journey-- there is such a palpable sense of *relief* and *joy* in his body language, which is also conveyed really well at 1:51 when he overlooks the road ahead of him. it's just really, really nice. because we are all snufkin x moomin shippers i think snufkin's journeys can begin to come across as just "the thing he has to do that causes angst for fics" but it is so, so much more than that. it is freeing, re-centering. he is rarely ever running away from moominvalley, he is running *towards* and GOD when he looks up at the stars and has them reflected back in his eyes??? beautiful beautiful beautiful.) then the coming home, the realization that he now needs to return just as badly as he needed to leave (the realization and relief as he notices the birds heading back north-- a sort of permission to return, culminating with a growing sense of wanting to return anyhow as shown with "it helps to remember i'm a brick in a wall" with the lovely folks of moominvalley welcoming snufkin in. snufkin fumbling to grab his backpack in his excitement was such a small and brilliant detail! and so was the parallel of snufkin literally looking at the stars and wondering if they are "looking back at him" to the "stars" being visually replaced with moomintroll. and snufkin running back to moominvalley with memories of his friends flashing??? absolutely amazing.) and then the "cycle" repeating at the end, the soft way snufkin kisses moomin's paw and then the pain and awkwardness on his face after as he asserts his need for distance, confirming that there isn't really a *resolution* to this dynamic. it's bittersweet, but the love is there. just, wow. deeply inspired and awed as an artist, but beyond that i seriously have chills and am a little teary-eyed. this was beautiful

You brought up some things I hadn't even noticed myself, and the way you worded and described various parts of the work made me appreciate it all over again (especially the part about the "stars" parallel with moomin). ​@@snailsdraw2735 so sorry to hear you're not well, i wish you a speedy recovery! and i'm glad it resonated/allowed you to reflect on your work more-- you seriously did something amazing here! :o) also, final compliment/observation because i have "moomins and attachment theory" brain worms: i just noticed how moomin, both in the beginning when he looks out the window and at the end after snufkin kisses his paw very *physically* holds his paw to his chest and takes a deep breath to self-regulate moomin doing the work to regulate his anxious attachment (taking deep breaths, knowing when he has to walk away and learning to be okay with it, fighting the desire to protest and ask for more) and snufkin working on his avoidant attachment (acknowledging the depth of his care and how much he values love + relationships, reaching towards moomin to kiss his paw and better communicating his needs) -- seriously beautiful to see and so realistic, subtle, and important! once again, fantastic work and i hope you feel better soon
