There aren't a lot of groups that could pull off this song as beautifully as Home Free has somehow managed to do. This is packed with harmonies that will knock you off your seat. Just love it!
Welcome to my “Modern Life for the 70's Mind” KZfaq Channel. On this channel, I not only take a look at the songs and history that made us who we are today, but also introduce you to today's modern music as well. Any songs that combine the two are always a winner. I've always loved music and have always tried to keep a balance between the classic music I fell in love with and today's MUCH DIFFERENT sounds. Here's we'll analyze both. We’ll even take some time and revisit some of the old parts of our past that have disappeared from today’s shelves and most people’s memories, I call it Bob's Cabinet of Curiosities. Interested in a real cool and unique coffee table book. Thus started my collection. There's very little information available about these things so I did whatever I could to unearth their history. There is so much more information contained in this book. I cover many things associated with music, vinyl records, music formats...and a lot more. Bottom line, if you love music, this one's for you. The 10"x10" hardcover book comes with a beautiful dust cover and is packed with over 900 pictures throughout more than 300 pages. It really does make a great coffee table book. You know something is spectacular when it takes your breath away and the almost supernatural harmonies Home Free creates in this beautiful cover did just that. Tim and Chance with their solo performances were awe inspiring. Time after time Home Free makes the most astounding music. It was nice to hear a story about something wonderful happening to someone nice. So much negativity just lately, it was refreshing to hear something positive for a change. Thank you for sharing the story and thanks for your great reaction.

When they turn into a 5 voice harmony it's always unbelievable how "just" 5 people can produce a sound resembling a church pipe organ. I love their silly funny songs but when they turn serious it's magic - the videos are subtle, meaningful even haunting - another great song in that category - In the Blood.

Thank you for your reaction. As it's typical of HF's arrangements, no matter how simple a cover may seem, there are always hidden gems. In this case, yes, Tim and Chance were remarkable in their performance. Still, the backup harmonies by Rob, Austin, and Adam were reminiscent of a pipe organ, giving a solemn character to the song, like a lament or a prayer in a church. And Adam's subtle vocal effects, especially at the end, add another touch of elegance.

Just beautiful. I love Home Free. I mentioned in a previous comment that I'd seen Home Free live in the UK. Each member brought something beautiful to the stage. The guys did this song so very well. Tim and Chance did the singing so beautifully. The others with the harmonies was also amazing. So haunting and ghostly and meaningfully done by all. Thank you.

I have always loved this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural breathy bass was awesome along with Chance's smooth baritone & all the guys doing 5 part harmonies. Adam is making the background wind sounds. These guys are my favorite a cappella group out there.

The first time I heard this was from my pre-order digital download. When Tim started singing, I was not expecting it and I was taken aback and shook. Then I replayed it from the beginning again. I fell in love with the song instantly. He and Chance’s leads were amazing, and Austin, Rob, and Adam’s harmonies were beautifully haunting! It topped my favorites list from Home Free, replacing Crosby, Still, & Nash’s “Helplessly Hoping”, which you should check out and react to soon, hopefully. It’s another beautifully produced video (directed by Adam Chance). I hope you check that one out here with us. I enjoyed your feedback and reaction to this one!

I loved your story about the woman in the casino - Karma is a real thing. She was cheering others on because she understands that begrudging someone else's good fortune is of no value - standing on someone else's neck doesn't make you taller. I so glad that she had a big win!

This song didn't need an 'apex'. It had a total reverence for life; something we all should have. Life is a gift we should appreciate more. It can be taken away so quickly. Thank you for sharing this.

This is hauntingly beautiful. Loved Tim’s low notes. Loved the echoes. Loved the black and white look of the film. Tim and Chance looked ghost like in the windows. Yes, it was a brave choice. Dire Straits version is guitar driven where this is voice driven. So well done. Tough subject matter too. Loved your story of the lady who won big. I gamble a little sometimes too (not often). Never won that much but that’s such a blessing and that was wonderful of you to wish her well. Good reaction 😄

Just watched all your Home Free videos. Tim has such a beautiful voice. All the guys do. Everyone is such a strong vocalist on their own and together it's something special. There is no hiding in an acapella group lol. I love that Home Free gives all the guys the chance to shine depending on what vocalist they need for the song. Home Free does plenty of fun songs as well. You should check some of them out too. "Working for a Living," "The Butt's Remix," and "All About that Bass" to name a few. The vocals are always amazing, but they have a great sense of humor as well. I love to listen to all their songs, but when I've had a bad day, listening to one of their fun ones can really brighten my mood. Also, HF does a cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" with Avi Kaplan, who was the bass from Pentatonix, which is pretty amazing. Johnny Cash holds a special place in my heart and HF does the song justice. And if you really want to see Adam Rupp, the beatboxer shine, watch his "drum solo" video. You can really see why he is a beatboxing champion and phenomenally talented. And since you love the bass singers also, you might like to check out VoicePlay. Pentatonix, Home Free, and VoicePlay kind of make up the 3 big acapella bands. Their bass singer Geoff Castellucci has an incredible voice as well.

Thank you Bob. This was HomeFrees masterpiece for me. Coming from a multi-generational military family this was done so respectfully and reverently by this talented group of gentlemen. The harmonies were hauntingly beautiful and out of this world 🌎. Tim's soul shaking bass just amazes me. Thanks for a great reaction. Oh and the most I ever saw anyone win in a casino was my son. He took home 13 thousand many years ago. And I thought that was a lot. 😊 ✌❤

@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind yeah I have a picture of my dad and his 6 brothers all in uniform in all branches of the military during WWII. Somebody has served in every war from WW1 to Iraq. And my son actually won his money on Bingo and had he hit with the number before it would have been a 100,000 dollar pay out. Me the most I ever won was a thousand dollars. And almost got beat up by an older lady who had walked away from it 🤣

What a wonderful story at the casino! This one by Home Free just blows me away. Tim’s dragon low notes, Chance sounds like warm chocolate, the other 3 with their stunning harmonies in the back ground. It’s breathtakingly beautiful.🐝❤️🤗

This is actually a cover of a cover. This five part harmony arrangement was first done by the Finnish A Capella group, Club For Five. Tim asked their bass Tuukka for the arrangement. Tuukka sent it to them, then later highly praised and loved the "echo" sequences Home Free added to give it their touch.

Home Free as an all male group are great. You said about the female voice adding something to the harmonies. Please do a reaction to the original a capella version of this same song by Club for Five on their channel. They sing it live with no special effects.

Thank you for the great reaction to a terrific cover of the Dire Straights hit. This was released for Vetern’s Day as a tribute. I agree the humming was needed and helps sets the somber reverent mood for Tim and Adam’s voices. If you want a totally different brash change of pace song from Home Free you should check out AINT’T GOING DOWN (TILL THE SUN COMES UP). This is a Garth Brooks cover that really shows off the talent of the beatboxer/vocal percussionist Adam Rupp. Because of copywriter issues Home Free put the song on their Facebook page. Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥

I'm a sucker for Tim's amazing range.... his bass.....oh my. Home Free has a lot of stripped down songs....they have about 200 videos out. Their vocals are beyond compare. I never miss real instruments when listening to them. They are much more than a country vocal band.

I'm wondering if you're from Iowa and if so, where? And as to this song, it really hits hard. The fact of the bass tone that Tim uses is that it's a rarity. Most people who can hit those notes generally have to push hard to hit them. Tim, however, just lets it float out so gently. No straight, strident sound. Just a soft, breathy tone that's beautiful to behold. Great reaction!

A song that touches you so deeply. And not just because of the Lyrics, but also how it's sung. I loved the Dire Straits original. But Home Free gives it their own twist so that they make it their own, while keeping the respect for the original. Tim and Chance did a great job with their lead because it sounds so beautiful. But the background and harmonies really sound so incredible. It looks like a church organ to me. really amazing

If you think Geoff is impressive I would like to see you react to some of his personal work. The lowest I have heard him go is in his newest work “the sound of silence” or “ big bad John” but my favorite so far is “take me home country roads” and “ghost riders in the sky”. their voices replaced the solo guitar from the original....This is Home Free's masterpiece....so so so haunting that harmonies and lyrics combine into a kind of prayer...and even the end they do A-men

I've noticed lately reactors have the sound too low. Needs to be louder, we are capable of turning it down ourselves, if it's too loud, but we don't have the ability to turn it up if your playing it too low!

Yes. I too can turn the volume down. This reaction was fine for volume, but I did have it on full volume. Much lower and I just exit.
