Austin is originally from south Georgia and he grew up being around his daddy who was a traveling gospel singer. He was in the limelight early on and he was comfortable around an audience.

Austin spent his year in college (on a music scholarship) trying to nullify his Georgia accent - when he joined Home Free they told him to stop trying. In an interview Tim said that when Austin first joined H/F, he'd say something and the others would look at him (Tim) to translate. If you want to hear that accent uncensored, watch his original "Earn It" on Austin's channel.

You are spot on about Austin. He sang gospel so did his dad. This group is so versatile no matter what genre they cover. You guys are wonderful also. You know music. You know talent and the work it takes. If you like soul, play their cover of lets get it on mash up.

He attended Oklahoma City University and majored in music. He’s been trained in the Classical and Theatre as well. But his roots are country gospel. He has a special gift of communicating the message of each song and you can tell he enjoys what he does. Some students that major in vocal music performance never learn to perform music vocally. He’s a true performer and is always sincere about the message in the song as it was intended to be.

This is incredible and "I'm glad to see Austin take the lead. It's been too long to see Austin take the lead. and it's fantastic, love it! In my opinion, this is the best acapella group today. They write a lot of their own music, they sing incredibly, the best boxer, they are humorous, no gimmicks, and are just great singers,. They are number 1.

Yes, Austin had a Southern Gospel tinged childhood. He also had a degree in musical theater. Home Free met him when they came onto a major company's (Carnival Cruise Lines? I can never remember.) ship as guest performers and he was there as part of the regular entertainment crew/staff. When they had an opening a bit later they contacted the enthusiastic young singer who was so eager to join them. This was...maybe around 2012. He'd been with Home Free about a year or less when they appeared on season 4 of the Sing-Off (and won!) at the end of 2013. He goes back to his theater training with his rendition of Bring Him Home from Les Miz with Sebastien Douyon on piano. About 3 months ago Austin and Rob did a video called Two Country Singers Try Singing Opera - Nessun Dorma. Rob went back to his opera training which he hadn't touched on in 15 years for this one. They sound MARVELOUS!

61 year old Mississippi white woman been listening to Percy since I was 18. God as my witness, I play him one or two nights every week. When a Man Loves a Woman is my favorite but "Take Time to Know Her" is killer too and true.

What a good time! Grew up around Oxford, Sardis and Batesville MS. Went to all kinds of churches and heard a lot of gospel music. My mom even dated one of the Blackwood Brothers! Yes, Austin showed his gospel roots in this, but don't forget Rob's soul performance in Boys to Men's "End Of The Road". It was awesome as well. I don't think there is any member of the group, including Adam Rupp, who can't give an A-1 performance singing or beatboxing! The more I hear them sing, the more I know that their next performance, somehow, is going to surpass the previous ones, so I never get tired of hearing them. I loved your reactions and will check out more of your things soon.

I remember as a kid my mom would play Percy's music all the time. When I got to dating age I burnt up many a Percy Sledge 8 track and then cassettes. When you went parking with your girl you better have some good soulful romantic vibes with you . And to me Percy was it..........heck momma couldn't be wrong I tell you.

Austin's dad was not a gospel singer. they are southern church people & his father was a choirmaster All the young girls have a crush on Austin so they make up stories about him & his relationships. But he's pretty smart about marketing his talents besides having a gifted voice.
