I think maybe Anthony was referring more to Axels behaviour being misleading after the story he told them about why hes in prison. He claims to be a decent guy serving prison time for something fairly tame compared to all the other evil criminals.. but then you see him kind of ~preying on teenage Beth and Carol has to call him out and tell him to back off.. then you start to wonder what his crimes really are... (in hindsight we now know what the writers were going to have Axel do to Beth 😬 ultimately deciding against it bc it felt too extreme and apparently ppl enjoyed his character being ~good). His vibe/story seems wishwashy to the viewer because the writers flipflopped with his direction and it shows. I'm guessing thats possibly what Anthony meant.

I see a lot of comments about this. You’re totally right that they didn’t start it in terms of creating a reason to have conflict. But they definitely turned it into a “war” by attacking all the innocent people there too. The crossbow girl did nothing wrong and she’s dead. So I think there’s two sides for sure. The hero of one side is just the villain to the other

Glenn and Maggie were seconds away from being killed when they were rescued...then Daryl was taken, and about to be made to fight to the death against his brother. In our group's eyes, this entire town is sick and twisted, there are no "innocents" to them. The violence was necessary, so they didn't start the war in any capacity.

right but put yourself in the shoes of some random nobody from woodbury, you'd defintiely see them as the villains and in your mind you and woodbury didnt do anything to them. So there 100% are innocent people here. They're just not innocent to you because you're looking at it from only our groups perspective. Which i totally get because i do too. Well yeah I mean Rick and his group came to Woodbury and shot the place up and fled. They were there to save Maggie and Glenn, but in its most basic sense of the words, yes he started the war. Not saying it wasn’t justified
