Welcome to my sewing room...I hope that you enjoy our Quilty time together today:)
In this video I am talking about my new sew along HOME TOWN and showing you how to make the first Applique Block called FLAG HOUSE.

During this sew along we will be making the HOME TOWN QUILT using the Home Town Fabric collection designed by me and produced & distributed by Riley Blake Designs.
We will also be using the set of set of Home Town Sew Simple Shapes
for each of the 12 applique blocks in the quilt.

Gig from California here----After saying for years that "I will never do the "A" word" I made your "My Happy Place" quilt with you.... And won a blue ribbon at our quilt show this past spring. There are about 18 of us that will be sewing along with you this time from our local quilt shop, Sew Katie Jean, in Lincoln. When I signed up I didn't realize that the whole quilt is applique. But, your technique is so easy that I have no fear......this time. Thank you from all of us. WE LOVE ALL THINGS LORI!

I love sewing along with you. I’ve been sewing with you for several quilts now so I mostly just use the blog for measurements but I always watch your tutorials in case you have evolved. When I started you would put heavy weights on the parts till the glue dried and now you hardly give time for the glue to set to move on. Thank you for your generosity making these tutorials and patterns available for years to come. ❤️❤️❤️

I am turning my bedroom into my sewing studio. I painted my walls a sift lime green and have blue vinyl floor tiles. I bought your pink old pattern style fabric to make a valance for the windows.

Lori, I absolutely love the perfectionist in you. I love your fabrics they just speak to me. My grama used to tell me I was an old soul. I very much think she was right. I am a geriatric nurse and when you use a phrase or a saying and have one of your 85 year old patients say to you, I haven't heard that since my great grandmother would say it, and I haven't a clue where I picked it up at, I'm inclined to agree with grama. Thank you again for a fun and helpful video! I learn something new each time. My Calico Garden Quilt is on my frame; I’m only about half way through quilting it. Lori, I'm wondering if you have started to appliqué your Hometown blocks yet. I'm have a difficult time keeping the shapes square. My first block came out all crooked like the poem: A crooked little man .... How can I keep things square? I've glued shapes in place and I'm hand appliquéing.

I need to have it far enough away to see the entire block for placement reasons. Have you tried watching it on a larger screen like a laptop or your smart TV? I know that always helps me.

How do you plan to quilt this? Do you have your quilter frame the houses and appliqués or do you do an all-over end to end design?

That's all personal preference and can be quilted any way that you wish...I'm sure that your quilter would have suggestions as well. I always show my quilt and how it was quilted after mine is completed at the end of the sew along.Hope this helps!

I'm excited and prepared! I have never attempted a quilt with applique before, and I have a couple questions: 1-- if I hand applique and use glue to hold in place, will the pieces tend to slip? 2-- is the Friday blog a second house or a progress checkup? Thanks Lori! Beautiful quilt!

Hello:) I glue so that the pieces do NOT slip. Every Friday and Monday is a different house block tutorial. The schedule on which house I am doing each time is in the sew along guide so make sure to get the free download. All links are above in the description of this video.

This is my first appliqué. I'm finding it hard to do anything curved. The needle just wants to go straight. Do I have to drop the feed dog???

how do you prepare/cut the background blocks? My blocks never seem to be totally square / straight - do you have a tip or method for cutting them? thanks am very excited to get going, my fabric just arrived x

Hi Lori! I will be sewing along with you. Just a quick question….when sewing the border and stashing fabrics together before sub cutting should it be a straight stitch or diagonal connecting stitch? Hope this makes sense!
