Unfortunately there's no easy go to answer for that question :D Since it will depend on a variety of conditions like what's your budget, what things are you looking to store, what is the criticality of what you're storing, etc that would go into deciding what synology nas to buy as there are certain ones geared towards your individual use case. What I would recommend though if you have the money to spend it on something that you know you can "upgrade" in the future, whether that's having more slots than what you will need currently for hard drives, or even just pcie slots to be able to upgrade to a like 10 gig NIC in the future.

Oh yeah I was looking at rack mountable ones and most of them were either way too entry level or way too enterprise level and costs way too much. I think sticking with a synology bay is probably a good start over rack unless you get really lucky finding one!
