Correct, which keeps him from being able to just solve the entire plot in a matter of minutes. Although we don't think about it often, this was also the intention with Superman (and part of his power creep as the world changes). Superman was invented in 1938, when most houses had their walls filled with lead pipes, and lead was common in products. It's an interesting way that Homelander calls back to the original Superman, but updated to make sense in the modern era.

Purple lead windows, lead paint , led pipes , asbestos and even mercury in the building. It's a landmark. It's the original office for the local underground coal mine in my town. I was in the military, bought it after and built it into a local hangout for kids. Had to build walls to keep everyone safe, and still keep the original building authentic. I went in 2019 to get my cdl and someone rammed my building with a lifted truck. They died when the window fell and the 6 foot slab of limestone with original coal mine name came down and crushed they under the roof of the truck. The slab survived. The window barely made it. The individual steel Frames built around the lead Glass kept it in tact. The building was donated to the town to keep the heritage open and alive. The dead person was also a registered sex offender , so it wasn't a loss anyways.

You can see how reasonable and level headed season 1 homelander was. His mental deterioration and exacerbation of his depression was insane to see afterward
@Yawyna12410 ай бұрын
I wouldn't really say either of those are necessarily befitting of this scene in particular. Throughout it, he's aggressive, irritable, short of temper, and condescending, and surprising your boss, lover, and motherly figure by showing her an exploded corpse without warning to shock her isn't a reasonable behavior, nor is the treatment of the deep in this scene really justified - the low esteem and bullying doled out to him by others almost without a doubt contributes to his misanthropy, though it doesn't excuse him for the sexual harassment, assault, and all the other unhinged things The Deep does. This scene, where The Deep has bested Homelander and did his job properly and is met with snide remarks and condescension is a demonstration of those issues and a forecast of future behaviors of Homelander to belittle other superheroes and other people in general, and develops some of the reasons why The Deep is so misanthropic, and the fact that Homelander doesn't solve issues around human-superhuman and superhuman-superhuman interaction, but creates or exacerbates them. So no, I think that this scene does more to establish how unreasonable and wild he was, period. The climax of the first season's arc is satisfied when Homelander kills Madelyn: he has now severed what was both his emotional leash and beaurocratic leash. He killed his handler, mother, and lover, and now there is one less person to keep him under control.

The show is still holds up almost as good as it was but I am so disappointed about Homelander’s character. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Antony Starr is still a top notch actor and proves that in every scene stealing the spotlight from his colleagues but this arc of showing his strength in first season and then showing his weaknesses in others and turning his whole arc to his acceptance of his SUPERhumanity is kinda weird. Dude is the most powerful hero even now, with Soldier Boy on the scene and yet he began to act like an underloved kid from season 2. And now take a look at how he stands right here, in this scene. THAT is Homelander. A psycho who has nothing to fear, confident about everything he says and everything he does but not a “snivelling pussy” he has become in the future. He was the embodiment of fear, a twisted version of Superman who cannot be defeated. And now look how they massacred my boy…
@lordsathariel438411 ай бұрын
i think the reason he seems stronger willed here is because he has had no reason to fear and also still had his mother issues met as for seasons 2 and 3 is him spiralling in sadness and rage as everyone stabs him in the back
@akvelo986211 ай бұрын
It's because as the show goes forward Homelander continues to lose. This scene was before the " You don't speak for us" scene that I would say started his Spiral down.

Tbh, the cold and collected villains are the most terrifying. With the chaotic villains, you can always expect them to cause chaos.
