Homeless encampment cleanup in Venice

Crews in Venice cleaned up a massive homeless encampment near the Venice canals Wednesday. Some of them have already been placed in temporary facilities through a program called SHARE!

People always complain..."Sweeps just shuffle people from one place to the next.” Exactly. That's what they 're supposed to do. Should I stop sweeping my floor because it just shuffles dirt from one place to the next? No. It at least cleans one area and pushes the dirt where it belongs. Not where I have to share living space with it. Sweeps and more sweeps. They work better than anything else I have seen tried.

Except, you're not solving anything. These are people; not dirt.... People, not there by choice. Maybe, last week, they worked in the office next to yours, or the building next to yours or down the street. Their kids might have gone to the same school, as yours. Who knows?? Fact: They can't get out of it; unless, they're rescued!!! We ain't in the rescue business, right not. We're in the hate and blame business, right now!!! Keep on sweeping, right?!!!

No one living on the street will leave their drug dealer that keeps them in drugs on their block. The only ppl benefiting from the drug addicted homeless, are the drug dealers & drug cartels. That doesn’t help anyone, but the worst ppl on the planet earth. You have to remove the homeless person that’s drug addicted to a facility, for drug rehabilitation. You will never see that unless the Gov finally says enough is enough. It would have to involve all 50 States, and a President who makes it a National Emergency so that our homeless drug addicted citizens could get as good Health Care as the prisoners in Guantanamo Bay? But our Citizens will never get that good Health Care as the terrorists got in Guantanamo, because ppl in this country will never demand it, and our Congress obviously doesn’t give 2 shites. It’s a sad day when terrorists in Guantanamo Bay got better health Care than our own Citizens, who are victims of drug addiction, & live on our streets with no real health care “facility” that will help them. So the drug cartels & drug dealers win, both from China, & Mexico. While our homeless population suffers, & die in the streets. It’s disgusting, & no amount of moving them from 1 street to another does anything, but it does help them to keep dying. Great job America, you really know how to help your own ppl, who are drug addicted, & poor, & homeless. Yea, great job America. 👎 “NOT” 👎

"Relocation"? They have been doing this for the last few decades! I was new to Venice in 1996-97, when I lived on Beach Blvd. in a "Cottage" that was "$800" a month! That same place is now $2500 a month! THAT is part of the problem. And until I lived in Santa Monica in 2013 - all the cities did, was move the homeless into Century City and beyond. Most of the residence _knew_ this back in the 90's. When I worked a carpet cleaning job a few years ago, (living in Riverside County at the time) in SM, afterwards we visited Playa Del Rey, where the Google facility is at the "Spruce Goose" Hangar. That ENTIRE area where they house most of the employees (and other Tech companies), the area was FREE of homeless people, but just outside of the city, Marina Del Rey and Venice, there were the homeless right up to the border. The Police Dept. has been _influenced_ to keep that Zone free of problems. THIS is what YOU people voted for! There is no "Rehabilitation", no sources for Drug Addicts to find REAL help to become productive members of society, or Mental care of any kind . . . nope, just SWEEP them away to another city to let _it_ fester, and then they come back. And that's not mentioning rising crime. NO ONE CARES, Representative Ted Lieu doesn't care, or any other policy maker, or "Slick" Newsom. They WANT this to happen - the Haves and Have Nots. Apartment Rent and Homes are too expensive for EVERYone (no matter your Party affiliation), and people just getting by to afford them to be close to their jobs. I was homeless but working in 1998 to 2000 in the Santa Monica area, but I had no use for drugs and alcohol and didn't associate with other homeless because they were mostly mentally ill, but most were "kind" back then. Its MUCH different now and worse instead of better. I will NEVER live in LA "County" again. And NEVER in my life have I voted for a Democrat. If anyone has issue with that statement - Look for yourself who runs these cities, and who represents most of the districts of California in Congress. No one is taking responsibility, but NOW the _voters_ are finally feeling and seeing it all Right - Between - The - Eyes. - I would have voted for Larry Elder to bring back sense to California, but the powers that be and uninformed voters took it upon themselves to keep the lunatics in power . . . and here you are. Cause = Effect.

They need mental treatment not just free housing.. take them to a facility for everyones sake so they can rebuild their lives

First of all, not all homeless have to mentality to keep moving from one place to another over and over again. The EBT once a month per motel voucher is useless to spend money as there no shelter available even the 211 Winter Shelters for the homeless as they can use that money for something else. The police check all Motels and Shelter places. And most Shelter if available you have daily register and be there before some certain time and leave at 5am sleeping in a mat at the floor with ton of strangers nearby no separate of genders... nor security after roll call. Who know, once they have housing or motel they rather lease it and be at the street but the majority because they are mental ill or druggies and immediately get kicked out anyway.

This is the answer, trust me. We have to continue to work through these challenges. It does not work to let them stay and build these tent cities. It's not fair for are hard working tax payers. We need to try and help as much as we can with housing, but they have to keep moving those tents and cleaning up these incredible messes they leave. We cannon continue to not do something because we can't house everyone. Guaranteed half don't want to be housed anyways.

This homeless problem in California will continue on as most of them are drug addicted or have mental issues where they need to be in a mental hospital to have proper care these streets will be loaded up again tents again what about skid row the city never tackled that problem putting them up in hotels will not work for long.

The problem is that homelessness and lack of housing, have very little to do with each other. they will bring people in and they will be right back out on the streets. I’ve seen it time and time again they have other issues that are keeping them homeless. Not the lack of housing.

Yip, I have been seeing homeless walking at night with there carts while other yelling and screaming. Having there belonging trashed can be haunted moments lead to mental distress especially moving from one place to another every week or so seem like Hell even if it a truckload of belonging stolen, misplace or missing.

They cleaned this area up, but many of the homeless set up camp under the 405 fwy on Venice and Sepulveda blvd. There is no real solution, just movement.
