Seeing what has become of Denver is sad. Growing up there in the 1970's and 1980's was a delight. But an incident that happened to me in 2019 forced me to say goodbye. I was on my way home from work when a homeless person on the 16th St. Mall asked me for some money. I politely told him I didn't have any. He became very angry and slashed my arm with his pocketknife. I moved to Phoenix primarily because it's not that far away (14 hour drive). I drove up to Denver this past August and the homeless problem has gotten worse. Phoenix has a bad homeless problem too but the city will not let the homeless set up tents in front of your house like I saw in many parts of Denver. Homelessness is a complex problem with different causes but the politicians in Denver have added fuel to the fire.

So sorry you had this happen to you. I agree. The politics and the people who vote for such policies have allowed denver to go downhill. We were once touring an apt complex and a homeless man almost assaulted my wife. Idk what would have happened if we didn’t lock the doors and drove away. He had a rock on hand. I truly hate this place now and we plan to move for work elsewhere. It’s gotten expensive as well and it’s constantly dirty and worse by the day. Even brand new areas like Stapleton are trash now. I think you did the right thing. I agree with other states doing a better job. This place will be the new Portland or LA. Very sad to see it happen. And the influx of people coming in are that high quality kinda folk who loves to contribute to society so this place is slipping fast. And the politics and policies of this place don’t help at all. Shame.

Agreed. I don’t know why some people keep thinking that housing alone is a solution to the homeless problem, most of the homeless people out there unfortunately, are mentally unstable, and cannot hold a job or become a productive citizen of society. Our leaders really need to get to the core of the issue, mandated, or required rehab along with housing is the solution to stability, your comment a spot on.

I’m from Los Angeles and just went to Denver a couple of days ago to see The Cure show. I went downtown with my buddy and his family to a Brazilian BBQ. We took the train in from Glendale. There were shady people smoking something out of tin foil. The restaurant was near Union Station and there were quite a few homeless people around. It kinda surprised me. It actually reminded me of Downtown L.A., which is next to Skid row. Downtown L.A. is all hipster next to Skid Row and they blend together near the border.

I was homeless in denver for a couple years and alot of people i knew all had the same story how they started using, it was all because of pharmaceuticals like oxycontin etc. If anything why aren't we going after the CEOs of those pharmaceuticals? They need to pay up for resources. I was able to get clean after i got into a house. While on streets i held signs, picked up trash, and i would take work if offered but it would never last long because they always wanted something more from me and if i declined to sleep with them id get the boot. I was constantly harassed by people trying to traffic me, they steal my IDs, glasses, and anything else to degrade me. I know this is all my fault for even doing drugs so im not looking for sympathy i just wanted to show a perspective from someone that was there and got out of it. Ive been clean for almost four years now.

Housing first is essential! Shame on the politicians who should and could be making a difference and get people off the street regardless of their mental state or drug addictions but they do nothing! They need to get homeless people housing first. They should be designated fenced in places with tiny houses for them. To just allow them to live & sleep on the streets is unhealthy, dangerous and will only get worse. There also needs to be much more affordable housing programs nation wide. Not just for immigrants, blacks and Hispanic's but for all Americans especially senior citizens, disabled and people with low income. Rent is way too high, and even if one gets a low cost housing voucher most apt complexes still go by your income and credit score which is ridiculous because those are the main reasons they are applying for low cost housing. So they make it even harder for people who are accepted to get low cost housing to get it! The laws and policy rules are horrible and they need to be changed. If you call they tell you your on your own, we don't find housing for you. So even people who are accepted for low cost housing have to jump through hoops and go through a ton of red tape and are treated unfairly. Not counting the $50 to $100 fees per application for a apt. Its disgusting! One day these crooked politicians will have to answer to God as "God does not allow the guilty to go unpunished".

Americans need the ASSURANCE of housing as a HUMAN RIGHT amended to the CONSTITUTION for HOME AUTONOMY through HOME OWNERSHIP for EVERYONE and ALL. No one should have to 'apply' or 'qualify' for a home. Rentals should be reserved for vacation space and hotels, not a permanent home. 'Real estate investors' and 'land lords' should be abolished and have no place in a civilized society.

Homelessness: *Paragraph 2 of 3.* In order to instantly create dignified shelter for the working poor; weighted down with college-loan-debt and *30% rent increases.* *Millions of American families can be provided with prefabricated homes made from the plastic taken from the oceans.* The *plastic-waste is melted at sea* with wind, solar, and wave energy. Then made into prefabricated, plastic, easily-assembled pieces. This is the new definition of a “mobile-home” that are prefabricated into campgrounds with common: shower, cooking, and toilet facilities.

*Section 3 of 3.* FEMA run homeless encampments share shower, laundry, toilet, cooking-facilities, stores, restaurants, dumpsters, and a post office where everyone has a POB; just like a large campground. No trash or crime problems for the cities and the working poor have a dry place to sleep and store their stuff. 24/7 every 20 minutes bus service connects the homeless encampment to the city. Where *subsidized for the homeless,* electric-cargo-bikes are provided by companies such as: _Wheels, Lime, Link, and Veo._ Food banks operate out of the homeless-communities where free ice is provided. Amen.

Just one of those days where there’s a lot to cover in the news. I wish that there had been some statistics on how many beds are available for people who have Medicaid and addiction but no legal charges…. We wait until the last minute because we don’t have the money to help people. And then we punish them mercilessly for needing help. Thomas Moore said it best, “first we create thieves and then we punish them for it. “

We live in a school bus that we bought for a few thousand dollars. The tax payers pay for years for these school buses and when they are taken out of commission, many still run great. Others can be parked on public property anywhere on a vacant public lot and with a few solar panels and pallet wood and become a shelter. Diesel heaters cost $160 and take an hour to install and use very little fuel. School buses are a common sense answer to a homeless crisis.

I’m of the belief that if one isn’t contributing to society more than they are taking/interfering with society then one shouldn’t be allowed to remain in society. There has to be a line somewhere, right? And within that boundary I’m all for progressive improvements. Not saying throw the people to the wolves, just that we need a system that helps prevent, and doesn’t incentivize, a complete surrender to human apathy and/or lethargy. Why else should society, mainly the working class, have to bear the burden of such lost humans? Respectfully

Excellent points. Let’s think this through… Young kids aren’t an interference to society as much as they are the next up to keep civilization going. They are full of potential and contribute by learning and developing. The elderly are assumed to have contributed so much to society that they can even retire from their economic roles. As it is, I’m not swayed from my stance by either example.

There are more people lost than before because housing prices are f$cking ridiculous. Also, mental illness is on the rise and mental institutes that are designed to help or keep them away have been shut down. What you say makes sense, but I'm not sure if you meant that all homeless people are not contributing to society. A lot of them are but still can't find themselves a home because the prices and inflation are ridiculous. Horrible economy, horrible fake housing bubble, and horrible presidential administration. There's a reason why there are more homeless in places like California than Texas, because the housing prices in CA are F$CKED.

P 1 of 4* Cities can eliminate homeless tent cities by replacing them with *homeless-communities* using _Pallet Shelter's_ existing *homeless shelter village components.* The _Community Room_ sells for $37,000 and serves as a shared laundry room, restaurant, *child daycare center,* and addiction services center. The _Bathroom_ cost $35,000 and the _Services Office_ costs $9,000. P *4 of 4* The homeless can simply move the tents they are using now into the homeless-village. Or the _Shelter 100_ is a $9,500 shelter that is climate controlled, built in one hour, is 100 sq. ft., and uses a folding bunk system to house up to four beds. *_Pallet Shelter's_* private sleeping cabins offer *security* and durability. Which addresses the concerns of the homeless who reject the restrictions of “bed-only” homeless-shelters; for only one night.

Serious problem with pure capitalism. No social system, the gap between poor and rich opened sky-high, the middle class is shrinking, more and more people can’t get good education, which make them easy to manipulate and now you arrived at the elections when those people vote for a far-right populist like Trump. US democracy fell becase the country didn’t care about its own citizens and thought that everyone can have the same life because of equal chances. That’s the big lie of this country. You can’t have democracy without normal living standards and good education for EVERYONE. The richest 1% stole your and the world’s future.

@@gmfitzg This progress started decades ago and now you're here with poor educated people who easily fell for populists. Democrats can come up with their own moron but until now republicans managed to unleash the cult of a narcissist toddler. If you look at your political landscape the republicans don't even try to argue they have very low-qualified unintelligent childish jerks like Cruz, Giuliani or MTG. But easy-to-manipulate people without critical thinking eat this shit like candy. Just look at the gun-control topic with theri one-door, good-man-with-a-gun, armed-teachers or thought-and-prayers reasoning. Pathetic. Democrates have other problems with their over-loaded identity business but that doesn't seem to be so harmful as the far-right movement of republicans who were eager to overturn the elections. And the root cause of all of this is poor education because of wide open economical scissors and ever-shrinking middle-class. Pure capitalism turned to be good for the minority of rich people in 2022 which should be solves somehow but I'm afraid that it's easier to manipulate the poors that come up with a country-wide social and educational system. Good luck with your democracy I don't give it 8 years from now (if Trump comes back, then it's over in the minute).
