Homelink Garage Remote won't program - Solution found! Ford Escape 2022 & ~2001 Chamberlain Opener

After a frustrating hour trying to program the Homelink Garage Door Remote buttons in our new Ford Escape 2020 to the Chamberlain Garage Door openers, we finally were successful.
The trick was a COMBO of the car manual help guides and youtube videos
- Step 1: Use the "Program with Remote" method
- Hold the working remote near the homelink buttons
- Press the button you wish to clone on the working remote simultaneously with the Homelink button until the Homelink button starts flashing
- Step 2: Now Combine Step 1 with the "Learning button on the Garage Door opener"
- Now walk over to the garage door opener and press the learn button
- Now "press and release" the Homelink button you just cloned
- The Garage Door opener lights should flash, and you may have just successfully programmed your remote
- All the manuals and videos I had seen and tried had the two different methods and slightly different press and hold sequences and reset Homelink attempts. The issue was the instructions were telling us to reset before Step 1, and it that didn't work reset before step 2. This "Combo" of the two methods worked for me and I hope it works for you as well.
- For more background on this silliness, here's our current craziness related to all the methods
- Volvo XC40 - Use the "Program with Remote" method -- works the like manual says it will
- Honda Pilot - Use the "Learning button and Homelink button" - works like the manuals says it will (note the "Program with Remote" does NOT work on the Honda)
- Ford Escape - Use the COMBO of the two methods
- "Program with Remote" does not work on it's own
- "Learning Button with Homelink button" does not work on it's own
- "Program with Remote", then "Learning Button with press/release Homelink buttons" works like a charm

FINALLY! SOMEONE ACTUALLY BROKE THE CODE!!! Our last three vehicles, I just gave up and assumed the opener just wasn't gonna marry yet another remote. Thank you thank you thank you for figuring out the right combination!!! So much misinformation on here about one step processes that do not work. We can put the clickers in a junk drawer now 🎉. My door opener is a Legacy btw, so this process works with it too. Thanks again!

I think the problem is that Ford and other manufacturers didn’t think we would clear the first procedure after I didn’t work. Had I not kept clearing the first training method, it would have worked. Thanks for the help. I’m commenting multiple times and liking to get this more relevancy in the algorithm. Excellent video. This is why the KZfaq platform/community is fantastic: the PEOPLE!!!

I just used your proceedure to program my daughters Ford Escape Built in remote after we changed the openers to a Liftmaster door Opener. Your two step method worked. I thnk I know why we had to do this twice. Depending on the manufacture, the remotes will operate on different frequencies, commonly around 315 MHZ. The frequency is different on the new opener. I confirmed this using SDR Sharp a computer application that provides a very wide band RF spectrum analyzer. So, when we perform step one, the car built in remote recognizes the new frequency and remembers this as the frequency to transmit on. Now with this set, we now can push the learn button on the actual door opener, and it will communicate properly with car remote. Strange that this is not explained online anywhere that I could find. Thank you for posting this video.

Thank you for the advice of doing "two steps": First was simultaneously holding the Home Link button in the car and the button on the remote until the Home Link indicator light flashed rapidly to show that the Home Link button had been programmed: Second step of pressing the "Learn" button on the garage door opener, then pressing the programmed Home Link button in the car did the trick. My 2001 Chamberlain Garage door opener now "plays nicely" with my new 2022 Lincoln Corsair. - Your "trial and error" method, leading to this solution has been a "god-send" to all of us with older garage door openers. Thanks AGAIN !😄😄

Thank you greatly for your tutorial. It helped me program my 23 Bronco Raptor to work with my 20+ year old garage door open that I was never able to get other car remotes to work with. It did take a couple attempts. I think I wasn’t getting the cars opener deprogrammed the first couple times. I would have never figured it out without your KZfaq.

Wow..I must have cleared the memory on my homelimk mirror opener and tried programming with the remote and with just the learning button 20 different times. Based on my other car, my opener has a rolling code, and programmed it fine with the rolling code option. I finally gave up on programming my 2012 Mazda CX9. Found your video and tried one last time with what you posted, and it worked! I did have to press my homelink button a 2nd and third time before it worked, which is what the manual says for the standard way. Thank you for your post!

Thank you so much. I have the same opener with rolling code. Tried the learning button and immediately pushed the home link for two seconds as stated in my 2021 Passport manual. Nothing!! Tried the two step process as you explained. Walla, it works perfectly. Damn thing was driving me crazy. When I bought the car in January of 2021 it worked without the two step. Putting this here to help others in 2023+. I have a 2010 Land Rover and a 2013 Elantra. I installed a new Chamberlain side mounted garage door opener in 2020 and had to buy the Homelink Repeater to get the vehicle’s Homelink to work with the new garage door opener. It worked great. Then we moved in 2023. I brought my Homelink Repeater with me to the new house and installed a new side mounted garage. I setup my existing Homelink Repeater and no dice. I called Homelink and they said due to a lawsuit by Genie that Chamberlain lost they had to change the algorithm they were using in their new garage door openers in 2022. Any existing Homelink Repeaters do not support this new 2022+ algorithm. Homelink released a new version of their Homelink Repeater in 2022 that supports 2022+ garage door openers from Chamberlain. This new unit has a model number of RPTRMC. The “MC” suffix indicates this new version. I threw out my old version and purchased this new one and it worked perfectly first try. I hope that helps at least one other person from losing their mind. :)

Thanks for this video. As all the other comments have stated, this is what finally worked for me too. I first tried doing it without the remote control (using the learn button on the garage opener), since I didn’t have access to it at the time (it was in my wife’s car) but it didn’t work. Adding this text so people with the same problem find your answer, because it worked. This worked for pairing a Chamberlain 1/2hp garage door opener with red learning button (rolling code) to Homelink on a 2010 Toyota Venza. I did all of the above, plus I changed the CR2032 battery in the remote. I also did the first part (teaching Homelink the opener code) when I was out of range of the garage. When I came back, the Learn light was blinking orange. I pressed it, and the opener blinker once and then Homelink now works in my Venza.

@@ZBark22 So what I did was clear the homelink first. Then press the remote and homelink button (middle) for about 5 seconds. Then I ran to the garage door unit and pressed the homelink there for a few seconds. Then ran back to the car and when I pressed the same homelink button (middle) from earlier it worked.

@@kalsorcwow VW Golf GTI 2022 with a Raynor 1/3 HP Garage door opener - Date 03/2001. I suspect the code learned from the remote is altered when received by Homelink. The button on the GDO allows adding that altered code to the GDOpener.

Thank you for video. I had same problem with my new Mazda CX30-2024 and problem solved. FYI I had Mazda cx30 2021 and had no issue.
