First, Thanks a lot for this video! I did a batch as well and I'm curing it now, waiting to use it in 4 weeks! I have 2 questions: 1. I read on the instructions on your website that after achieving the right trace after blending, we can add a tablespoon of another oil. This would be on top of the 2/3 cup extra oil, right? Or is that tablespoon of another oil instead of the 2/3 cup of extra oil? 2. Do these shampoo bars expire? If so, after how long? Is there any preservative that we could add? Thanks!
@diyNaturalVideos
@diyNaturalVideos 3 жыл бұрын
1. The teaspoon of oil at the trace is in addition to the original amount. It's used as a moisturizing agent, so I use something with nutrients like vitamin E. Sunflower and safflower are two of my favorites. 2. There really isn't an expiration date, but most soaps get labeled for a year. I don't superfat mine that I store for any amount of time. Superfatting is what is done in question 1. If soap is made right, it'll last for years. I have some bars that are over 10 years old. But when you superfat, you have excess oil that's not used by the lye and that oil can turn rancid. 2.1: If you're going to superfat, you can use an oil preservative. I use Rosemary Oil Extract or ROE in that case. It helps prevent rancidity in oils. There are other preservatives available, but for the most part, are unnecessary.

Hello again, I tried this out and did 4 different batches. They are all curing right now on week #4. On some soaps of the same batch though there is a white patina/coat. Do you think that that might be the caustic soda? Is it normal or did I do something wrong with that batch? Can I still use the shampoo? Thanks so much!
@diyNaturalVideos
@diyNaturalVideos 3 жыл бұрын
The white stuff is called "soda ash." It occurs inconsistently but is harmless and will not affect the performance of the soap. For more info check out this article: www.diynatural.com/soda-ash-in-soap-making/

@diyNaturalVideos
@diyNaturalVideos 3 жыл бұрын
The reaction, when lye and water mixed, it to heat up; so you do not need to heat that, just let it cool down to 125 degrees. You may have to heat the oils slightly to bring them to 75 degrees. See the article for more info: www.diynatural.com/homemade-shampoo-bar-diy/

Hello, I incredibly appreciate this video who care about our skin and environment to prefer a natural product. However, I think this formula is natural soap bar in cold process, It does not shampoo bar, You know, if you react triglyceride (oil) and Lye (NaOH, KOH) you would get the soap, If you use NaOH/Sodium hydroxide, the product is Solid Soap (soap bar) and if you use KOH/Potassium Hydroxide, the product is Liquid Soap and then the process we called Saponification. For making a Natural Shampoo Bar, it has more complicated composition and more process with the advance apparatus too. CMIIW.
