Homemade Faux Rust mixture

This video shows how I made some homemade faux rust mixture using acrylic paints, craft sand, and modeling paste. I was so inspired by Andrea Kidman's beautiful rust effects project.(Andrea's link below)
I had a project I wanted to do right away with faux rust, and that's the reason I attempted to make my own mixture. It turned out pretty good, and I have another video following this video of me using this mixture and I was happy with the results. It's all a learning process. That's a good idea to add the sand for texture. The finished piece looked cool. I shall be interested to see your upcoming project. Hugs xx

Thanks Lynn! That piece has more color in person than it shows on the video, and I was pleased to get the texture I wanted too! I'll finish editing the next vid and hope to get it posted tomorrow. tfw Hugsxx to ya!

Thank you Andrea! I loved your rusty stuff (that's sounds wierd..lol) so I tried to mix up some diy rust. I think it worked pretty good for what I wanted. tfw xx

Thank you Carol!! The main thing I was concerned about is if after it dried.....would the sand rub loose, and it didn't. The nice thing about this is that you can make it with as much or little texture you need. I enjoy DIY projects...especially if it works..ha! tfw xx Claudene

Great tip to add texture. When I try to do a verdigris faux finish, I'm always trying to find textured paper. DUH! Now I know to add texture instead. Thanks. Tere
