Without a doubt, I think this is one of the most simple/effective wood processors I've seen! Like many, I've been harvesting KZfaq for ideas and fixes and as far as I'm concerned I just hit paydirt! And as a bonus, you reaffirm my faith in the down east getter done attitude. Thanks for sharing!

Brilliant idea repurposing the old chainsaw. I'm thinking of doing the same thing but using direct (pulley) drive off a motor with an airconditioner clutch providing the on/off control. If the processor is still in use then using an old bike wheel/cassette as a "non-return valve" could make for a simple method of stopping the logs from being dragged back to the left. Just have the wheel spring loaded against the logs and allow them to freewheel when the log is going forward but "lock" via some spikes or something when the ram is retracting.

yeah really impressed by your abilty to use items you already had, I am looking to build one a bit more refined, but honestly many of the same ideas have crossed my mind also! I was glad to see you did it and it works! Cheers!

Your design has many good working features for Low buck home made! She's a 8 out of 10 for sure. So many work at turtle speed or only have one log on at a time. [Hydraulic saw is a huge plus]

Cool set up. Very well thought out. Probably could put some heavy gauge expanded metal over the log lifter to be able to lift all lengths without adjusting to fall on two cross pieces but other wise a really awesome deal.

Kristin H 11 months later and this is still one of my favorite firewood processors on youtube. It's also that time when us procrastinating wood burners are scrambling for dead trees and dry wood. So here I am again with wood on the brain planing for winter welding projects. I'm using an old $600 diesel tractor that barely uses fuel right now to power a home made log splitter. It's more of an unfinished processor with the basic frame and I have shipping rollers on top that I can stack round after round on and roll them onto the splitter. It's what will eventually be the log deck. Lack of materials, extra funding for hydraulics, and traction on this project is what has it as a stand still. I'm glad I have these video's to fall back on for motivation.

Totally awesome guy.. Wish I had your machine when I split wood after school and on weekends, back in the day. I had a splitting maul, didn't work as good as your machine does though. Busted many of handles. However, I think it was a wee bit easier to move back to the tool shed. LOL

@imchris5000
@imchris5000 10 жыл бұрын
you just need a piston to move the saw up and down also if you put your pump on a belt you could add an alternator and power a small winch if you modify the spool to be bigger and with teeth and put it in the bottom of the log run with a pull up past it can pull logs onto the processor get close to the saw then unhook the cable and keep using the winch to feed it in

Well, you certainly thought of just about everything here! My only wish is that it were more quiet. I know that's just the nature of the beast, but I like hearing the wood cracking as it is splitting. Great Job! Btw, beautiful piece of countryside you have there!

I've been checking out a few firewood processors. This one comes surprisingly close to competing with the pro rig from Finland in many ways. Remember those pro models cost $20 to $30k or more!!!. Impressive. I like the Husky adaptation. Probably the best use for a Canadian Tire tractor I've seen yet ;) For some improvements: I'd move the log hold-down dog/arm a bit further back from the saw to keep the log from teetering up and maybe a plate or extention on that dog arm to help in that regard as well. On the hydraulic ram, I'd maybe put a small toothed dog to pull the log up to the prescribed length a bit better. If the log was dogged solid a bit better, and things did not start binding, I don't see why you couldn't start cutting while the ram was retracting provided you didn't cut thru the log and hit the ram. Could probably safety that issue away. That would almost double your rate of processing. Thanks for posting.

More time at the controls would smooth out a lot of those kinks. Most people do things more fluidly when they don't have camera's pointed at them lol good points though. I definitely have a mind to build something along these lines, although a bit lower in proportion to height, I'd run my 046 with an extended handle and modified remote trigger for better leverage and plan on getting a larger saw. I'm determined to push a cord an hour and pull full trees like the hud-son badger and there's a few more out there like it, twitch-n-split but that guy is carrying his saw. My business plan would be to contract with logging companies to come in after their trash decks are finished and skid logs off the pile one after another. Last fall I ran two trucks and one 20k trailer parbuckling logs 6-8 feet high and filling the back of both trucks with 8' logs we only had a week free to the public before they closed it off to be burnt that winter we worked until we dropped.. yet it could have been that much easier if it all went into a dump trailer cut split ready to deliver was premium dry sun baked beautiful cedar and fir. Sometimes you just gotta get it home and take your time with it. Logging companies in the north west waste so much.
