I'd have a pump on each barrel to fill and empty them of water. To make it more stable and adjustable. Great job👍🙂

If it’s not already asked in the comments I was curious if it is possible to list everything on how to make one and how much roughly it would cost compared to a prebuilt

Nice build from your neighbor here in Oklahoma (Moore, Ok) Looks like it works AWESOME!!!
@TheSilverFiend
@TheSilverFiend 6 жыл бұрын
what didn't make it into the video was that it actually caught gold here in Oklahoma! I repeatedly hogged material just to overload it and see how it handled it. Each time I would just pull the mats and dump them, make a change and do it again. The last test I just some material at a normal rate for a few minutes. When I panned it (just out of curiosity) I had gold.

I'm building my own highbanker. What made you choose those two sizes of expanded metal? Availability, price, size of gold? is there some information you could point me to about what sizes work best for what? Was it trial an error in your area? Sorry i know this is an old video.

Hey mate. just wondering if you know the weight of the assembled unit, I’ve recently built a 3 inch and though I’ve gone as light as possible with the materials the total weight by my digital scale seems like it’s to high, would just like to compare 👍🏼

nope, zero problems packing the catchment screens or riffles unless I absolutely hog material. This is a better gold catcher than my Keene, but only 3 inch.

Good job man! Did you end up keeping that same opening size for the underflow section?
@TheSilverFiend
@TheSilverFiend 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've kept that the same. Only change made so far was to replace that piece of huge expanded metal with a professionally made combo unit with half riffles / half expanded.

Why is your sluice set up the way it is? As in what principles of fluid dynamics do you think it is exploiting to function with everything stacked on top of everything?
@TheSilverFiend
@TheSilverFiend 5 жыл бұрын
multiple principles going on here. First, its an over'under design which allows the majority of the fine material to drop out of the fast flow. The top screen keeps the fine mesh screen from getting beat up by large rocks. That larger material NEEDS that flow to keep moving and exchanging . The large riffles in the second half of the upper are to drop out any pickers and nuggets. The low level has a lower flow rate, which works to keep from blowing out the fines, but still keeps then exchanging in the expanded metal riffles.

@TheSilverFiend

It came from a scrap yard, but ended up ditching it. For some reason it would pack up no matter what angle or water flow I used. Now I have a combo expanded/riffles in it's place.

Thanks for the really nice video and it's a lot of fun I wanted to know which angle should sluice box be positioned while dradging ? I seen in some videos it look like horizontal and then in some video it look like on 45 degree angle 🤔 My second question again on the angle - is there different in sluice box angles when dradging vs sluice box that you put material with shovel 🤔 I would appreciate your email address to contact you And if I get some experience with you guys while prospecting I live in London Borough regularly visiting USA. my family live there Deeply appreciate your time
@TheSilverFiend
@TheSilverFiend 3 жыл бұрын
no set angle. you need to run and test for losses then make changes as needed. Angle needed will change from one location to another.

Thinking out of the box. Good going. Did you figure the cost as opposed to the equivalent dredges sold by Keene? Im retired and will dedicate myself to gold prospecting and I was debating whether to buy or make one. What do you say?
@TheSilverFiend
@TheSilverFiend 6 жыл бұрын
I've never sat down and done a direct cost comparison but I can tel you its a hell of a lot cheaper. 3 inch Keene dredge will cost $3500, plus taxes. Even with paying other people to do some parts its far less. It just doesn't look at pretty and "refined" as the Keene. Flotation was about $40. Frame with welding was about $120. Probably another $20 for perf pipe. The sluice, mats and moss came from SouthYubaMining, but I'm not sure if hes still in business. Dirt cheap and good stuff. Only things that were expensive on this was the motor (although I got it on sale really cheap), the Keene flare, and the jet log. I wasn't going to tinker around with something that might break or not work correctly so I paid full price for them. I'd guessmatate I have maybe $700 - $800 total in this. Could be as high as $1000 if I'm forgetting some things. It's not fast and its not easy to design and build your own. If you've never dredged before I recommend buying a good used one. Lots for sale out in California.
