After perusing the comments, it is clear that most of the comments are negative. I sure do not see anyone stepping up and doing a better job. The man was kind enough to show you all his idea. Next time step up to plate or keep quiet. Thanks Bill for the getting the juices going inside the noggin!

I saw the crane bend, the truck chassis bottom out, and waited for that one eye bolt to lose it but it never did. Marvelous eye bolt. Great crane idea.

Very well presented. Bravo. No dialogue needed. Good balance on the triangles. Maybe(?) consider a truss or gusset on that upright, only to slow it's eventual warp. But it all seems well within limits for that 400 lb log.

The amount of deflection in the boom is a little worrying. But, it did the lift. But, I wouldn't trust it to do that kind of lift over and over again. Like said before. Some reinforcement would be a good idea. I am certified rigging, mobile, and overhead crane operator. Metal fatigue would be my main concern. Cool idea though, I am definitely stealing some of the design ideas. I like the double receiver idea a lot. Going to be using mine on lifting heavy vehicle parts on and off of my flatbed F250. Engines, etc. Don't want it to be a permanent attachment to my truck, so this works really well.

ya, great build, but the far end needs a scissor jack or something as such, you went down 6 + inches before you went up

Tom Chrissy I built this crane for my truck. It might give you a idea, on building your own. It is simple and set up is minimal. Could you shoot me a thumbs up & possibly ac subscribe. For more heavy metal builds? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7l0eJqntNq9pmw.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h7moY5mWuL6Uc4E.html

If I make this out of a 3x2x1/4 inch rectangle tube would it be strong enough for 2000 pounds? I would also have a leg to support it.

Hey man, awsome job. Does the bottom bit need bearings or grease or anything or does it spin just fine?

sorry that is too slow for me. the chunk of wood was tall enough to lean on the floor of the truck and tip in. and yes I do it all the time.

Depends on how much you can lift though. That also requires more physical effort than using a crane with a pulley.

Good idea , needs some improvements. Looks like it may not hold up to many of those heavy lifts though. Just being honest, the mast is too weak.

Good idea but the whole thing needs refinement. Flexing once or twice is OK but fatigue will eventually set in...

much too slow using a chain block when you can buy a ATV winch and fit it for peanuts .. Called working smarter not harder !!!! But I really appreciate the design of the crane ! Bravo !
