Unfortunately, I can't have roses in my yard, due to my deer friends' frequent visits. However, I do have Lily of the Valley, and my peonies are just getting ready to bloom as well. You're right, May does seem to be a busy month, but May blooms are always so much fun to look forward to. Thank you for reminding us to keep our routines in place, even during the busy months. The headboard is NOT a crazy idea! I use an ornate storm door (minus the glass) as a trellis for my clematis. Years ago, I found a metal child's bed by the side of the road. I snatched it up, had my husband build me a wooden "mattress" and filled it with dirt and annuals. It was my little garden bed. It has since rusted and fell apart, but it was so cute. I love Lily of the Valleys scent, too. My girls have taken clumps of it for their homes.

Camping is so much fun, did a lot of it when I was younger with my daughter and various friends. It's also a lot of work to get everything ready and then put it all away afterwards. I like the headboard as a trellis, my neighbor has one and it looks really pretty.

Love Lily of the Valley too! Thanks for reminding me. I have some growing in the backyard but the Allium has taken over, I almost forgot the heavenly beautiful little blooms were there! I will definitely be placing a bouquet for Mother's Day in a blue and white vase that I recently thrifted. Blue and white finds always make smile!

That would not end well for me. 🤣 Your backyard is such paradise for your kids. A real blessing. Yes, those school years are so packed with seemingly endless wonderful activities. When they’re grown & away at college and beyond, you’ll be surprised how still the house (& car & your life) is, & how empty your calendar has become by comparison, & wonder how you did it all. You're amazing Hilary! As always so inspiring and admirable! The tomato salsa you made is called pico de gallo, except it usually has a jalapeño or serrano pepper in it for spiciness. Also no jicama, but what a creative way to use jicama. Jicama is sooo good with lime and salt.

I want to try car camping so plan to this summer. I don’t enjoy sleeping in a tent but when my children were little, we did trailer camping. It is fun but also a lot of work getting ready and cleaning up after. Glad you enjoyed 😊

Oh i love to hike, backpack and camp! Rain makes it tough for sure, I bet you're kids loved it though. Omgosh, when my 4 were in school I used to tell my husband that the end of the school year was crazier than the holidays! Its all a blur now. I have a twin size white headboard I’ve used behind some flowers for 3 years now and it’s still doing great. A friend sold it to me for 10.00. Your home is beautiful. 😊ps. I store the headboard in a building during winter to slow down the inevitable rust that will come.

I love the scent of Lilly of the Valley, but now living in the south, it seems to be one of the flowers I can't grow here, along with heavenly lilacs. Our spring has sprung into summer, but you enjoy yours while it lasts!

Our home, which is 63 years old, has had a large patch of Lily of the Valley for many years. They seem to be gone this season, which is sad. I will need to order more "pips" to replant. The smell is amazing for sure.

Love the headboard for your roses. Camping as a child was so much fun with our family of 11. Crazy but so much fun! When I think back on it I am always like "my poor MoM!"

They did! There was only minimal complaining when things were cold and wet but we were snug and cozy in the tent. Definitely a memorable experience! I REALLY hope the roses grow well on it!

Gosh, you did great with the camping. Bless your heart. Rain is hard enough when we take our fifth wheel out (it leaks) and we have to stay in but goodness gracious. What troopers you are. I love the headboard idea. I need to get one for my clematis which is tied up to an old trellis right now. The headboard would be wonderful on our patio. Have never tried jicama but am intrigued now. Yes to your entire video but a resounding yes to the first part about not putting off little tasks or extra things, sticking to our daily routines and putting in the effort. In regards to the craziness of May my husband and I say, "you either roll with it or get rolled over by it!" It's better to strive to roll with it!

Love the headboard trellis. Oh how I remember the tent camping with kiddos. Its a lot of work; so much dirt and laundry after, but a lot of fun. I was always so exhausted by the end of the school year; its a very busy time. Your meals always look so delicious. Would love to have a dogwood tree; will have to see if one will grow in Utah.

??? Would you share the recipe and how you prepared cilantro rice?my dad used an old metal bedspring for my mother's honeysuckle bush. That provided great support and southern charm for that lovely bush my whole life.

Love that idea! I can't remember the exact recipe I used but basically you cook the rice regularly, then add lime juice and chopped cilantro, I added a little butter. Very simple!

Lily of the Valley is VERY TOXIC to dogs, not sure if you knew that... please be cautious and watch your dog carefully if he is around it... Unpacking from a Tenting Weekend: My son, when he was younger, came home late on a Friday night... too late for laundry; I thought I would deal with it in the morning... guess what I found in his sleeping bag? a BAT! Still alive...barely, flopping around in there... I still have bad dreams all these years later about it!

I paid for them, but yes. I always ask that they use boxes, since they're free and I can just recycle them, but more often than not I wind up paying for the bags
