I guess that days of picking up a scanner and just turning it with no programming on are long gone. Now you need a masters dress to set them up. UID#, TGID80, GMRS & CTCSS, I wish I knew what all the means.

I see where some people say the extreme upgrade takes away some of what they had what is this about and why would someone have to loose a feature simply to gain something else clearly if the scanner is able to do each why would any feature be lost?

I just bought the home patrol a week ago used. I am liking it so far. I am getting all the surrounding counties in my area (some as far as 40 miles away on the digital public safety MHZ channels). If you cant afford a new scanner- check craigslist- I got mine half off.

The database reflects the real world as far as radio systems go. For a visual, see the database pages at the RadioReference web site, which is where we get our data. That said, setting your location will make the HP-1 do a pretty good job of filtering things down to channels in use near where you are.

When I got mine the 2 was not out...the extreme upgrade is well worth it!! One day I'll get a 2...it is by far the easiest scanner to use I have ever had!!!

In Sentinel, you simply click "Update HPDB" then "Write to HomePatrol". With a broadband connect, then process takes less than 2 minutes.

Oh, and sorry I closed the post too soon. We issue an update every Monday morning that includes all changes to the database as of late Sunday.

How much is it?

Well, if the phone had a RS232 port, you probably could connect it to the scanner. Unfortunately, phone MFRs have opted to equip phones with USB interfaces, which require specific drivers that must load onto a PC or Mac to communicate.

I am still very confused about some of the HP 1 features. Why do you need different profiles if your favorites is saved under every profile? I bought the GPS unit and the only way it works if I connect an antenna to the HP-1 which does not make sense. I like my scanner but it is hard to understand the operations.

Awesome new features!

Updating the main database should not affect the Favorites Lists...well, unless you perhaps had a different (blank) version in Sentinel and overwrote the non-blank one on the unit. If you make a FL on the unit, be sure to do a "Read from HomePatrol" to save the FL onto your PC in Sentinel.

iS THIS THE UNIT THAT YOU CAN HOOK UP TO YOUR GARMIN GPS OR TOM TOM AND GET LOCAL SIGNALS WHERE YOU ARE AT?
@UnidenUpman10 жыл бұрын
XXX: Your CAPS LOCK is stuck. I am not aware of any Tom Toms that output the industry standard NMEA 0183 signal needed for such connectivity, and only some older Garmin handhelds do (but some NUVIs can be made to output correctly using an adapter cable).

Oh, and I highly recommend you move general Q&A over to the community forums at the HomePatrol web site (YT won't let me link but if you add the normal things after HomePatrol to get to a web site, you'll get there). I seldom check KZfaq for comments (you got lucky) :) .

I understand how to update sentinel, but how do you update the frequency database? Do you do it the same way? Also how often are the frequencies updated? I want one of these so bad. It will come in very handy when traveling.

My county has private fire talk groups will i be able to hear those? i like to monitor my departments private channel which is still a digital talk group and is under fire talk
@popitz11 жыл бұрын
Drivers are installed on a PC or MAC, not the HP-1 (the HP-1 is a client device, drivers are needed on the host device for it to communicate with the client device). Phones are client devices. RS232 (or the variant RS422) is the industry standard for GPS signaling. There is no industry standard for using USB for GPS. You would need to load a driver on either the phone or HP-1 or both in order for them to be able to "talk" to each other. There is no provision for loading drivers on these devices.

1 quick newbie question I really need answered b4 I purchase one of these badboys... I'm not radio/scanner savvy, but is it possible on the scanner to just monitor let's say, my local fire department instead of monitoring the complete systems channels and other cities activity.. I just want to know if it includes the option to only monitor for example my local fire or police department or a particular talkgroup.. Ty in advance.

my only concern about investing in a new digital scanner now is Phase-II P25, which I understand the HP-1 cannot decode. I don't know enough about this model though to know if Uniden possibly incorporated the ability to permit phase-II signals via an update or of it's an outright impossibility for this model. I bought the BCD996XT two years ago and I love it but it too cannot do phase-II P25. Is there ANY Uniden model that will be able to do this? I know GRE's PSR-800 can do this but Uniden?

For the longest time I've been having issues receiving our local Fire department because I was unable to adjust the P25 threshold. But thanks to your radioreference thread about the beta firmware release I'm now receiving everything 100% just had to make a simple adjustment. Thanks UPMAN ! I'm still using this firmware version I like having the ability of making a simple adjustment to resolve my issues. Why hasn't UNIDEN included this option with the final release ?? My UNIDEN 396T had this option so why not the Home patrol ? But moving on if anyone here has been having the same issues or would like to install beta version 2.06 here's the link to download the file firmware info.uniden.com/twiki/pub/PartnerWeb/HomePatrolBeta/HomePatrol-1_V2_06_02.zip once open just plug your HP-1 to your computer select mass storage then when the folder pops up simply click to view files on your SD card and select the folder for the firmware then just drag or copy and past the SCN beta file into that folder. Then unplug your radio and let it download the update. Once your HP-1 loads up click audio options and presto your P25 threshold options will be visible !
