Just starting watching a number of your videos and have to say, you really make it look too easy. LOL. What I like most about the videos is the no-nonsense approach. With that being said, when installing this type of flooring on a concrete floor, does it simply require the moisture barrier material?

Let say I'm renting an apartment and I want to do this on my apartment. would I be able to remove it after when it time to move out?! 😊 I'm moving this apartment and the floor is so bad the landlord said he do anything about it. So I want to make it look nicer. Someone told me about the peel and stick wood floors but I'm scared it wouldn't come off when I'm about to move. Please help. 🙏

Around the 13:00 mark. Would it be beneficial to apply a small amount of glue between the small piece and long piece just at the joint? If a kick can shift a plank, my concern is that small piece could shift back under the quarter round and pulling that piece back might be difficult without damaging the installed trim. I've never installed flooring.

So in our kitchen where we want to do laminate flooring we have an access panel door to the basement, and a 2-3 in space along the back wall. How do we place the laminate flooring onto the access door seperate from the flooring around it so it doesn't look tacky? Currently there is vinyl flooring the stick and peel kind. I don't want it to look horrible when we come to this section of the floor

As a professional there's so much wrong with this video. You should never lay along the same grain as the original floor & if you do a ply sub-floor should be installed in the opposite direction of the original floor boards. Where's the vapour barrier? Why didn't you remove the skirting boards prior to starting? Why use a silly saw around architrave when you can use a multi-tool? @23:00 you can see you damaged the board next to where you were sawing. This would never of happened with a plunge blade on a multi-tool. Cowboy job!

Thanks so much for this video. I just inherited a house that has never been renovated since it was built 1985. The subflooring is so bad, that when my 11 pound cat walks on it creeks. Going to put screws every 8" would it be Overkill for me goning to basement and lay some glue under the flooring and joist before screwing down subfloor, it's 5/8 waferboard. Poorly built some 4'x8' board have 6 screws holding it down. 🇨🇦

I'm just now finding this video because I intend to do this soon, but I have a question about the base boards. In my project I'm intending to remove the base boards and put new ones on. I was wondering if I could do that after putting down the flooring and end up not having to use quarter round by being able to hide the gap under the them, or if you'd still recommend to use quarter round still.. The reason I'm removing the base board is because it's not actually base board, it's more of a thin flat piece of trim that i'm going to replace.

pull the baseboards off and skip the quarter round it looks a lot better and the quarter round looks terrible after it gets hit by brooms and other stuff in a few years. Also put a thin line of sealant on top of the base boards when you install them it keeps dust from getting in the crack and a quick wipe they look good.

As always, your videos are informative and entertaining! I have been flipping houses for years and you are still the first one I go to for advice. Just last year, I watched your video on painting and it changed my painting world. Thanks to you and your crew for your outstanding presentations! FWIW, I started using my $60.00 HF wet tile saw, along, with a 4.5" carbide tipped wood blade, also available from HF, for all my laminate work. It's like a light and portable little table saw....I can keep it on the floor and drag it around the room with me. About 80% of the mess goes into the water tub. I would imagine if you put the blade hood on it would contain even more of the mess. I can do long cuts, crosscuts and even intricate cuts featherboard fashion or just scraping cuts along the side of the blade. Anyway...thought someone might find that useful. Thanks again!

I love everything about this video. One small thing to make it easier at 38:50: Cut your skinny wall boards and last full-width boards to length just like you did. Lock in your skinny wall boards in the full-width spot, lay your full-width boards against the wall, make a mark all the way down the wall boards that are locked in the full-width spot, pull them out and replace them with the actual full width boards. Prevents cutting too wide if the wall is bowed at all because your straight edge will always hit the wall at its widest point. Love your channel, you’re better than bob vila!

I remember you doing a video where you where talking about the Pro/Cons of different flooring. But instead of really getting into costs, installation time, and difficulty removing/installing. You went straight into a miniseries about putting down flooring. I'm a big fan of floating snap in ceramic tiles that have "bumps" so they're not slippery. I have cheap carpet, which absorbs dust/moisture. Cheap laminate which expands and contracts from occasional water drops, cheap vinyl flooring that has dents/scuffs in it. Who knows.. maybe someday I'll finally pull the trigger and go for ceramic!

GREAT video, thank-you, I relied on it heavily to do my first laminate project! One important thing though is never discussed, nor could I find anything on it anywhere else on KZfaq. If you trim your laminate to fit under the door jambs like he shows but still leave an expansion gap everywhere, and do the 30 degree end of the quarter round at the door jamb as he says, you will have a visible hole in the laminate right there at the end of the quarter round. You can actually see this hole in the video at 28:45. Looking down from above, especially with a lighter coloured laminate makes this hole all the more evident. What I finally came up with which seemed to work great is first, when you are cutting under the door jambs, allow yourself to cut at an angle into the end of your baseboard by the door jamb, like he describes at 22:28. Then after you've under cut the jamb, go with a narrow chisel (no wider than the thickness of your laminate) and carve out the bottom of the baseboard at the end at the same angle that you cut into the baseboard. That allows a space for your laminate to go under the end the baseboard, and when you install the quarter round, there is no hole showing in the laminate. You do have to do some careful jig saw work to make this fit just right, leaving a gap, but it can be done.

Hey Jeff, First of all, love your personality! One of my son's just purchased a home which needs the carpeted flooring replaced in 3 bedrooms. We have decided along with his twin brother's help on going DIY with laminated flooring. Thanks for making this awesome video which is one of the best that I have found! Most of the videos are discouraging or overwhelming because of lack of or too much information!

Awesome video!!! I’m a novice who loves working on my 100+ year old house. I always use the 12mm (10 + 2 for padding). It’s just a better stronger product. Very forgiving. I always put a underlay material down just because I don’t have a subfloor. Expensive but makes for a better floor. Thanks again!!

Don't understand why all the dislikes. Thank you very much for this wealth of free information. I noticed you didn't need to use flooring spacers to keep your 1/4" gap? My laminate instructions say 1/2" all around, hoping the quarter round will still cover it. Thanks and cheers from Wisconsin!

Hi Jeff, thank you so much for inspiring us to tackle any home projects efficiently! I absolutely love watching your all videos. It has become my hobby during this COVID-19 lockdown. :) Recently, I'm tackling laminate flooring project in my house in Hamilton, Ontario and I do have a question for you. What type of surface screws should I use to reduce floor squeaks and creeks? My house was built almost 50 years ago and does not have the subfloor system. There are wooden planks on top of the joists and existing 2" wide Oak hardwood floor is laid directly on top of wooden planks. What should I do to reduce squeaks and creeks? Thank you in advance!
