The comments questioning what happens if there's no airport within fuel range must be from non-pilots. The original flight plan airport is still there within range plus reserve fuel, and most likely there are closer ones within that flight path. Highly doubtful that a pilot of a plane worth close to six million dollars would plan a trip without fuel reserves.

yeah, wonder if engine failure AND incap pilot then? lol I mean if enough go wrong there is nothing you can do. but still lol.

After watching so many documentaries and retellings of aviation accidents. There is no guarantee that everything will go as planned. What if there is a fuel leak. or plane veered off course. One solution could be programming the homesafe to consider highways as a backup solution. or even fields a last course of action. This said this feature is great and can save lives.

@@OnceShy_TwiceBittengarmin also has Autoglide. I don't know if that is built into Autoland/Home Safe, but if it is, it will do the trick.

I think for passengers, if the plane gets onto a runway, at proper landing speed its always going to be a better outcome than an untrained passenger trying to fly a fast moving turbo prop

Passengers should not be afraid to fly anymore. I only wonder what happens after the plane is on the landing strip and shut off. Other planes cannot use the strip until someone moves it to a safe place? Truly an amazing piece of technology!

Not very difficult to tow off an aircraft mate. ATC will have strip clearance and emergency services in place.

No different from any other emergency. ATC will close the field and direct other traffic out of the area until the emergency aircraft is clear of the runway.

It is not daher's feature...it is Garmin's feature in their g3000 avionics. Few other aircrafts that use that avionics like Piper m600, cirrus vision jet also has this feature... This is mostly useful in aircrafts with are single pilot certified, in airlines there will be two pilots and if one gets incapacitated then other pilot can land it safely...

Compared to a parachute it's pretty useless actually, it has only like one usecase that a parachute can cover

@@misham6547 No. The cirrus parachute system is way more primitive than this. This is a much better system for the safety of both passengers and those on the ground. Always better to fly down than to plummet.

You are kidding right? Airliners can autoland on cat III for years, it is just not standard to do so when you have live pilots onboard ...

What happens if no recognised runway is within the distance available based on remaining fuel? Can it allow a plane to land on a flat strip of land, or does it need a runway with ILS?

Funny thing is, the only thing I dislike, is the location and dominance of that HomeSafe button. I know it makes sense, but I just don't like it haha.

Gotta be able to point it out to the significant other "see darl? If I have a heart attack just hold that button for two seconds and it'll fly us to safety". I joke, but it's a great feature.

I wonder if it sets transponder to 7700 the emergency frequency? ATC will pay attention to that.

Very cool. It does seem like a lot to expect of a passenger though. Obviously, you’re expecting less of the passenger in this scenario than you are in an aircraft not equipped with HomeSafe though. Maybe at some point it will be able to automatically detect when the pilot is incapacitated, and initiate itself.

The only thing a passenger really needs to do is push 1 button for 2 seconds, the rest is all more or less optional unless the incapacitated pilot has a death grip on the yoke or pedals.
