Hello,
Here we are reflecting on what didn't go as well as we had wished in the past school year.
I like to think of failures as an opportunity for change and improvement!
This video is a collaboration with homeschool moms that choose mostly secular curriculum options.
We are talking all about our failures.

Dropping those "extra" seems to be a struggle for a lot of families! And writing is a struggle for us too. Thanks for sharing!

I know! I love all the extra stuff too. I think we all do that's why we get so excited about doing it. It's hard to fit it all in. I think I may front load some subjects early in the week and put in a block of time towards the end of the week to "catch up" if something falls behind. Maybe it'll work and maybe not. Thank you for commenting!

History, Geography and Science are ones that get dropped often in our house. My goal is to focus more on them next year.

I think I am going to put music & Art on the schedule early in the week so they don't get dropped as much. The farther that week goes on its get so much easier to put a "none essential" subject aside. On rough days though I still just focus on math and LA.

We tend to drop those as well as we get busy. I hope to do better next year

Me too! It seems like many of us end up dropping the arts and the really fun things. I'm going to try hard this next year to get it in.

History fell thru this year due to my kids Motivation and I picked my battles!!! I don’t have big plans for history as I want to finish up what we are doing!!! I don’t plan much for geography and just unschool geography and use a bit of curriculum here and there!!! I just put art and craft supplies out and encourage creativity!!! Art is in our language arts curriculum!!! We have a piano but my kids won’t play it!!! They play guitar instead!!! We have mainly done outdoors field trips this year as we’ve took advantage of the summer and now we are going into winter we probably won’t change much as it’s a mild summer!!!

For me I have big plans and something always falls through. This year I am hoping to "unschool more" in addtiion to all of our planned out studies. I am hoping to create a more fluid learning life and environment without it seeming like "school time" and "not school time". I want more natural learning and fun in our daily life. It's a harder task for me than it sounds like.

My daughters writing is horrible. I have started telling her to write smaller. It has helped with pencil control. For spelling we went back to the beginning sight words and are doing those for spelling. For creative writing I let her verbally give me her story and I write it for her. Then we edit it together and she types her final copy. It is frustrating. Mine is 9 years old and in 3rd grade.

I completely understand. My daughter is very similar. I've been learning about right-brain vs. left brain learners lately and have stumbled upon Right Brain Phonics by Dianne Craft. It's very time intensive but, I am going to try it with my daughter this year. There is a great figure 8 writing exercise that is done each day that is supposed to help with handwriting along with many other exercises and learning strategies that cater to right brain learners and students that are having a hard time with other curriculum styles. it's worth a look. Thank you for the comment.

We tend to drop art and music here.

I plan on putting Music on Mondays and Art on Tuesdays this year to really try to get them in consistently. I think you gave me the wonderful recommendation for the online piano program. Thank you it looks like a great fit.
