I've tried many things over the years, but now that we have 5 kids doing HS, I've decided to try using this system of boxes and binders! I'd love to hear what you do in the comments below!

I track school the same way. The kids have a weekly checklist of things we hope to get finished. Then I write down in my Happy Planner what we actually gets finished.

Love those latchmate boxes!! Great idea! I have 6 kids and they’re color coded. I cannot tell you how easy it makes life! They’re colors of the rainbow, so I’m able to find things with their colors with little to no problems. 👍🏻

2 years after the video... BUT... That box idea looks brilliant! I think that could work well for our oldest. I love that each child has all his/her school work in their own box. Gives them ownership of their work and puts all the supplies where they need it. I could imagine each child grabbing his/her own box and carrying it to an area of the home to do their work in peace. Thank you for this idea. ❤️

Wow! I only have two kids and I'm struggling to get them organized. I'm off to pick up their school stuff since all school has been cancelled for the year. So unneeded some advice on what to use to organize them. There's lots of good information here. I appreciate you as a mother , a teacher and as a woman. Your children are very lucky!

I needed this, thought I was ready for school (we started Monday) but I need something a little different. I homeschool 7 but have 2 preschool aged boys that want their school work too. We don't have a lot of storage options so this totally helped. I already of the chalk stickers and chalk markers!! Just need the bins.

We use workbox drawers from Michaels. This is your second year using them and I love how it’s like already planned and scheduled so I don’t have to remind my daughter what to do, just go down the boxes. I work full time and I can’t be as hands on as I would like.. However, I have my niece with me and she will be in PS and for her homework things and little workbooks this would be perfect! Thank you for sharing!

We are using similar containers too instead of workboxes. I have 2 that clip together so one can be for their projects and one for daily work. Thanks for sharing.

I use the big happy planner. I write my "plans" for the week on the side and then actually write down what we did within one of the big boxes. I use the vertical that broken into 3 boxes. I have one box for outside of the house things that are scheduled, one for my daily tasks and the third is for what we got accomplished. It's so nice having everything in one place.

A couple years ago I discovered the latchmate boxes and got one for my sewing stuff. I've been wanting them for homeschool ever since, but between not being on sale or being completely sold out, it's not happened yet.;-) I have to say, I loved that Noah drew himself with glasses! So cute!!!

I plan on tracking what gets done vs planning out too! And then I have a big sticker chart showing all the goals for this year to visually track progress too.

We use the Latchmate bins too and I have the phonics cards, spelling cards and challenge words in the tray section.It's been so nice to have each childs items separate form the others.

I love how you have organised each child's work into those boxes. I am in the middle of preparing for the next school year, which starts in September here in the UK, and trying to figure out how to organise everything for my 4 kids.

Multicultural Motherhood How long have you homeschooled in the UK? It is something I am considering doing in our future but most of the content I've found on KZfaq is American and a UK perspective would be really helpful just to clarify any differences in how it all works.

My mother in law who homeschooled all 6 of her kids, did just that, and always wrote what she did versus what she wanted the kids to do. Best advice ever, I've been doing just that since my kids were little. I use just a plain regular notebook put the date at the top of each page and the split the page in half for my 2 that are homeschooling right now. It's cheap and it's easy, and it's doable. I'm simple minded, no journalling for me, just jotting down what my kids do each day.

I’ve got 8 kiddos and only 5 are school-aged this year. We use the latchmate boxes too and it’s SOOO much simpler. We do use the upper portion for individual supplies because community supplies were wandering off due to the 3 youngest kiddos this past fall.

I’m so grateful that you showed off your latchmates in a previous video. I snagged 3 from Ross for $7 each! I put their pencils/erasers/crayons/etc in the top tray - I hope it works out, though I can see some supplies go flying. That way we can car/coffee-shop school without the backpack scramble. Aw, I love Noah’s “About me”! I love that you said my planner/recording ideas are “doable” - after trying lots of things that just took too much prissiness (is that a word?) and time, I finally settled on something that tracks progress and fun without being so complicated that I abandoned it midyear. Thanks for the mention!

I heard you talking about the lesson checklist and just checking off as you do and just eyeballing if you’re where you should be in the year...I haven’t liked that idea but all a sudden I think I’m going to do that. Maybe it’ll take off some of the stress of yearly planning!

I got those latchmates 50% off from Michaels along with a smaller version for art. I love them. I got the Idea from the Salty tribe co. She has an amazing way of simplifying things and I love it. We have not started the school year but we are very exited about it. I coded them with my kids favorite animal stickers and reinforced it with tape. Per my kiddos request, I coded everything this year with their favorite animal stickers. I don’t plan to use binders this year. I am planning to use beautiful notebooks and journals that I got from Home goods. I placed everything inside the latchmates to try to keep it all as simple as possible. Sometimes we go to the coffee shop or places and I plan to transfer all we need from the latchmates to the backpack. Thank you for a great video!

I have planner envy!! This is a great option BUT we have a Sunday start workweek and our weekends are Friday and Saturday! I think I’ll get one for 2020 when we head back to the USA. Right now I have give up and resorted to a spiral notebook.

This is almost the same as what I have been doing! :D My Son is doing preschool homeschool and we do the box thing to with all his work books in it and I also just write down what we have accomplished instead of what we need to do. :D

This is how I organized the basics for my kiddos HS as well... Salty Tribe Co on youtube is where I seen this idea. Only difference I have done is I used the white ones for all kids instead of Color matching to ea. Kid... just so that they would be more visually pleasing as I have all my HS stuff in a large cabinet with glass doors in our dining room.

I don't know if you know about Brain Pop but my teachers used it for me all the time! It was so fun, you watch the clips then answer the questions.

I'm homeschooled online now at a regular online school which is same curriculum as public school. I am however ahead in math by a grade and ahead by a grade in social studies because when I was younger in grades 4-9 my mom had me doing Saxon Math and Story of the World for social which has gotten me very much ahead. Saxon is very good for developing understanding in Math and I would HIGHLY recommend it. I was super behind in math when I was in public grade school but when I did that program I got super ahead and so you should definately do this for your kids! I am currently online at Centre for Learning at Home which is a fantastic online school and I would highly reccomend that once your children reach middle school, you enroll them in online school at CFL.

Well done..some great ideas....bet the kids love it.......just a nosy question...do they all sit round that table, or do Kennedy and Shelby sit separately?...just wondered if the little`uns distracted them and if there was elbow room....its so like an old time schoolhouse with the different ages (hence the channel title silly me!)...so easy to learn there..no mean kids/teachers..i bet the babies will be learning by listening in the background till its their turn.

We are using the same boxes. I kept seeing them on your Instagram and another homeschool channel. So far it's really working!! We haven't lost anything yet. We are a week in. We have a 6rh grader, a 1at grader and a 3 year old.

Oh ty 4 ur vid it helps but i have a ? Not about the organization but about my 5yr almost 6yr old is doing 1st grade math and prek language arts tgatb but ive got a problem he speeds through his langarts or he just will refuse 2 do it 4 awhile then finally finish it. Do u or have u had this issue? I know he says its boring and maybe its not challenging enough but he doesnt know his letter sounds yet and thats y i started with prek. And ty that helps alot with ur lesson planning cuz i feel rushed and upset when i plan it all out and it doesnt get done.
