As a practical example of how homeschoolers (ages 7-17) use the items that Megan showed... We are flying cross country this fall for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary celebration. That has led to a 10 week unit study on aeronautics - the science and history of air travel. I'm beginning the unit study with the Greek myth about Icarus and how many early inventors experimented with flapping wings and feathers. I'm using that exact D'Aulaire's Greek Myths book, which I bought used many years ago. I love the freedom we have as homeschoolers to dive deep on a topic or to just touch it and move on.

What great finds. I hope the homeschoolers in your area take advantage of that Goodwill. In that book of doodles there was a picture of a little boy who had wood squares strapped on his feet. It reminded me of back in the late 50's and 60's and there was a TV program called Romper Room. They made little stilts from tin cans and rope called Romper Stompers. I live in London U.K and needed a distraction for a while, from the sorrow of losing our Queen. Loved watching both the cottage pie vlog as that is my favorite meal to make and eat 😄but also your local thrifting store is great and had to laugh as my surname is Eames.

👏👏I’m 82 widow. Shopped Goodwill for all my 3 childrens clothes. Bought them home, washed and start he’d, iron etc. They were well dressed. (Starched). Anything you touch will be beautiful. How blessed your family is to have you 2 for parents.🤣❤️‍🩹.

I bought my Mitchell Gold sofa new 23 years ago and my kids, grandkids and dogs wore the slipcover out and I had to buy a new slipcover and seat cushions. I repaired two of its springs myself. Everything else is antique or thrifted with many happy treasures. I restore and repair everything I own from my own and my kids childhood memorabilia onward. I love vintage, still use my mother’s 1959 Blue Willow china, augmented by thrifted blue and white vintage transfer ware, all stored in two 1920’s cherry corner cabinets. If I need a bench or a chair or table and find it for cheap at a thrift store, I bring it home, spray it for bugs, clean thoroughly and either refinish, restore if it’s antique, or paint it as needed. I love all sorts of book I find at thrift stores. I rarely buy something absolutely new and prefer to put in the energy to fix it up. My kids and grandkids all love thrifting.

I'm very impressed by the great teaching aids you found in the thrift store. I'm sure lots of parents post pandemic lockdowns have a new appreciation for teachers and homeschoolers, especially in our city where we had over 260 days of lockdown with many parents of young kids tearing their hair out looking for activities. Love the Eyewitness books! And I'm impressed by the great quality and variety of thrift store items.

I love this one! Going inside with a goal changes things! Past homeschooling, but some of those books intrigued even me (in my 80's), i.e. Greek Myths, drawing, historical, etc.

If your thrift store has gotten pricey see if they have discount days. In my city Thursdays and Saturdays are 50% off so even though it’s gotten pricey it’s actually really cheap on those days.

Love, love, love this! I send alot of homeschool stuff to the thrift store hoping people can find it for cheap there. Love your out of the box thinking with bulletin boards and dry erase, etc.

In Hawaii, our thrift stores rarely have anything good and they are so overpriced, sometimes things cost just as much as Target or Walmart 😅

You are very lucky to have that kind of thrifting available around your home. I'm 100% positive that those items at thrift stores here in TX would cost 3X as much. That locker would have been at minimum $50. I used to thrift here until it got to where the goods were costing as much as new Walmart stuff. Thinking maybe I need to move east.

Gosh things are so cheap there! In NZ the cost of things is so much higher. It would probably be at least $20 for that chalkboard for example. The only things that seem to be cheap these days is crockery and occasionally kids toys.

Great video! We're beginning our 20th year of homeschooling. We have gotten SO many things second hand over the years! Especially our fairly extensive library. Love it!! Unfortunately, our Goodwill has gotten SOOOO expensive. Items at our Goodwill would be at least, 2, 3 even 4 times the prices that you found at yours! Seriously! There will be things with the Target price tag on them and the Goodwill price is higher, often considerably. So sad! Thank you for sharing these ideas though. I love to see things get reused and used up! :)

I love school lockers. I found some at Hobby Lobby. They aren’t actually from a school but they look vintage. Def not cheap tho. Thrift store prices are much better

Please, get as much as possible from goodwill thrift stores or second hand. Rich or poor, this saves the planet we all want to try to preserve. And think: a thing not produced or not trashed saves energy. Also don't invade your space, take just what you need and then like The Knorpps hand it down again.

The only books in my house are Bibles, King James Version..I have internet, I got every book I could possibly need on the net..Yes I know you can read the Bible on line but holding gods word in your hand is a personal thing.
