Today I share our story with one of our boys who struggled and still struggles with writing.
I share our experience, thoughts, and solutions that helped us.
I give some info on dysgraphia even though we never had him
diagnosed. In the the journey the Lord has taught me so much and how he created us each different and God has a purpose and plan for each of us. I hope this helps and encourages!
Thank you for watching!!

This was INCREDIBLY encouraging to me. Thank you for sharing it! My oldest is in 4th grade and really struggles with writing. I just really needed to hear this and know it will be ok.

This was so helpful! My 8 year old reads pretty well but writing is SO hard for him. The sizes and spacing like you mentioned. Even the handwriting itself changes from one day to the next. And with spelling he leaves out vowels all the time. And I feel like my son is likely adhd also. So THANK YOU!!!! I will definitely be trying some of these tips!

For dysgraphia: Dianne Craft's writing 8 program and then occupational therapy both made the biggest improvements and biggest impact for my child.

I have twin boys who are 13. They both read beautifully, but both struggle to write and spell. Cursive was helpful for one, but the other prints in all capital letters. They both prefer typing. My daughter is very intuitive with all things language, but the boys don't seem to internalize any of the spelling rules, or even the punctuation. We're starting with a lower level of Fix It Grammar this year.

Fix it should be good because it incorporates not only grammar but vocab and copy work. If they are doing together you may want to go over answers together. Write the final correct sentence on the board for them to copy. For some, looking at a sentence with a lot of marks can be distracting. I am using IEW Phonetic Zoo for spelling and that may work for them. The biggest thing is to focus on their strengths. Is there something they love they could write about or type. I will tell you this age is can be hard.

@@learningwithboys7431 thank you for the advice. I plan to do the program with all three of my kids together this year. They actually both enjoy writing fantasy fiction, so if we can get the basics down we can start copy editing their own writing. I tried The Logic of English Essentials, but to be honest, I had trouble with all the moving parts on the teacher end. I'll look into the IEW spelling.

Thank you so much. My daughter now 14. Has been diagnosed with dysgraphia. She still struggles with writing. I am lucky to get a few sentences a day. She still can’t write in cursive. We are working on typing. How did you get him to learn to read cursive if he doesn’t write it? Still a horrible speller but we use spell check and Grammarly.

I only did the cursive for that year. I did not want it to be foreign to him. He recognizes it and can decode it😉 there has been times something came up and I made him try and read the cursive (letter, note, etc.). It really is not used to much anymore. I would not stress over it now. I am learning as my boys get older that if it is needed and they want to do it they will learn it on their own😉 We used IEW off and on with him. Really helps with grammar, order, and process. Now he mostly types any papers and communication. I let him use spell check and grammar check. I hope this was helpful.
