Thanks Cindy! What a sweet compliment. Lots of mistakes along the way, but we do the best we can and keep our fingers crossed. As long as they are happy and love to learn we consider it a win-win. I know, those tests are just insane!!!! And don't even get me started on teaching to the test. Yuck! No wonder kids hate school so much.

Must say your approach to educating Largo sounds great to me. The fact that your kids are growing up with not only English speaks mountains to me. Especially as here in Switzerland, kids learn Swiss German, German, French and English plus..... Delightful that your kids are so motivated to learn. Hands on is the way to go. Having worked in education myself, before retiring last year. Thanks for sharing this Jessica.

You answered so many questions I didn’t know I wanted to ask! When it comes to learning languages, I studied Latin, sounds pointless, but my teacher was amazing and find the teach it like a second language, she taught it as an extension of English. Oh this is the Latin word for... what English words do you think come from that word? So you would learn the Latin by linking it to all the words in English were the Latin was the root. Then we’d get a passage in French or Spanish... “you know the root in Latin... so what do these Spanish words sound/look like considering a Latin root and an English word” Now! I can’t read Central European languages but if you give me a paragraph in any of those languages and a couple of minutes I can give you the gist of what it says. Talk slowly and I’ll have a fare understanding of what you on about!

Your kids are "road" scholars! Agreed that teaching to the test is bad, however test taking is a skill in itself; don't forget to include that at some point. Your kids are lucky to have such involved parents. You're lucky to have such adaptable and hard working kids. I had a friend who did something similar, via sailboat, pre internet. Coursework mailed to the next port, etc. What an age we live in. Can you (or someone) post a list of links to those websites?
@WorldTowning
@WorldTowning 4 жыл бұрын
As far as tests, they do take some within their subjects. We just opt out of standardized tests as they are primarily for government funding and don't have any other value except making kids hate learning. We want them to love to learn. They will most likely take the SAT for uni unless they go another route, but at this point we are not concerned about it. If they have been educated properly then they will do just fine. Great statement though. Thanks. Thanks for your compliments. Just doing it the only way we feel is best for our kids and their needs. Great idea, we will try and get to it this week.

well, I am Spanish, and I was a RV driver in the past 01:11... Extorsion money Will...??? Maybe you should think why those other countries are so AMAZINGLY expensive (food, gas, fuel...) in comparison with other ones, Spain is becoming a desert step by step so for us water is a VERY valuable good and of course, depending on the part of the country you visit and when you'll suffer from water cuts due the dryness of some regions during the summer.... If you think we are EVERY MINUTE more and more humans on the planet and the SAME amount of water that was from the beginning of the Earth you'll see why is some countries water is like GOLD for everyone on the planet, just saying...

I don't think Will meant any disrespect by this. He is very conscious to not waste water, but when we are paying a premium for it and often over charged because we are kinda tourist it gets very annoying. We like to think that living in an RV we use way less water than living in a house. We barely shower, don't do laundry or use a dishwasher to mention a few. Thanks for sharing you thoughts, we will try to be even more conscious of our water consumption and more sympathetic to countries who have limited resources.
@publiedos
@publiedos 4 жыл бұрын
@@WorldTowning well... That's what when I heard extorsion money... Is kind of sounds quite bad... You can use a lot of words instead but not extorsion money (in my humble opinion of course) when is a more than gold valuable cost for every living being on this planet. I mean, I don't like to be paying "tourist" prices wherever I travel to and of course this is because you got food from other country to travel to the more expensive one... But the think with the water is quite different, at least for the people who lives in those countries where is and it will become even more and more expensive. And of course I'm not talking about disrespect because of the words, is because of the thinking, just sayıng Jess...

I completely agree. To engage with and develop an understanding of cultures different than our own makes us better humans, more compassion and gives us the ability to be able to work as a team for world peace, rather than segregating into the mindset of "we are better than them!" If I had my way and the ability to fund it I would send ever high schooler to a foreign country for 1 year after high school before uni and it would be not a western country. They would need to find food, work, learn a language and survive! It would make us all such better people. Ok, rant done. Ha! Can you tell I believe travels fixes EVERYTHING!
