Heroes of Might and Magic IV is a turn-based strategy game developed by Gus Smedstad through New World Computing and published by the 3DO Company for Microsoft Windows-based personal computers in 2002. A Macintosh port was subsequently developed by Contraband Entertainment and released by the 3DO Company. The fourth installment of the popular Heroes of Might and Magic franchise, it is the sequel to Heroes of Might and Magic III, and was the last to be developed by New World Computing.

I actually like how the fractions interact with each other in HOMM 4. There is something deeply philosophical in terms of interplay of ideas and elements.

It is sad however, that combining units of multiple factions is almost impossible. Morale is overpowered so you can't even risk having a tactics hero of a friendly race(death/life), only of your own. The penalties are too high.

Why are mages always placed in the front row and nagas on the back? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Damn, I knew that the dragon golems are poor units, but I didn't think they are _this_ poor.

They are not that bad, they should not run into the middle of the entire enemy army by themselves, but should be more defensive, since the order does not have any other fast units that can immediately support them. For example, nature has fast phoenixes, griffins, and sprites who can all attack in the first turn despite being melee units and then their strike is much better, while dragon golems die there alone.

it's expected for them to die fast when they rush and get attacked by the entire enemy army at once.

Also they would be way more effective even alone if they used Wait. These battles are tested on easy difficulty where AI doesnt use it.
