This video might just be your best work yet--stellar writing and picture selection to say the least! A future video on ancient haplogroup origins and diffusion would be fascinating, in particular the oldest known haplogroup A00. Also, several ancient haplogroup discoveries are now showing Neanderthal inheritance within just a few generations suggesting that Homo Sapien and Neanderthal hybrids were common in shared territorial habitats... perhaps solid content for a future video. Good luck!

@@HonorableHarbinger I used to believe exactly like yourself until evidence disproved the biblical creation story. There are numerous examples I could share, but consider how recent genetics show the oldest human haplogroup originated from Africa--not the Middle East as implied by several religions including the Bible. Furthermore, the Christian faith requires ignoring any contrary evidence and blindly accepting scripture as absolute truth, so your faith prevents you from examining and considering the credibility of opposing propositions. I only raise this point because citing additional evidence is pointless if your faith requires ignoring anything contrary. If you choose to accept works written by ancient people believing earth was flat and the sun orbited our planet that's entirely your choice, but to suggest others not sharing your religious beliefs will experience some sort of reckoning is pitiful. I don't fear supernatural consequences so your attempt at imposing fear is without merit, sir. Perhaps consider how Santa and God appear equally plausible to a naive mind, and understand the difference between truth and belief. Please let me know if you're interested in evaluating the authenticity of your religious claims.

Imagine how terrifying the night time would have been for these early hominins. Going to sleep, and knowing the terrors that lurk about at night. They would have had poor vision (like ours), and could only hear the predators in the distant. It’s incredibly fascinating that they were able to survive in such a dangerous and scary world. You also forgot to touch upon another potential dangerous animal back then: Agriotherium. A large bear in the African savannah. Scary as hell for a small hominid.

Half human and half ape? We are all apes with very impressive twig technology. I don't know why this bothers people, but it seems to me that being human is very lonely, thinking we are something other than. We are apes, and this makes us right there with every other animal, a huge community.

Great video as always dude. I've been watching you for a while but I think this is the first time I've left a comment. I listened to this while hiking with my cattle dog/cur mix and what really struck me was watching her catch voles hidden in the snow while listening to you talk about how we used to be preyed upon by all these ferocious beasts. An interesting future video idea imo would be your take on our domestication of dogs and other animals and how our relationship changed with them from seeing them as dangerous animals to depending on them for our survival, to modern humans seeing them as cute furbabies even lol. With dogs especially I can't imagine the bravery of our ancestors seeing wolves hunt and even being hunted by wolves, and choosing to overcome their fear to hunt alongside canines as it maximized their success. Somewhere along the way we stopped living alongside nature and began to manipulate it for our own mutualism.

It is crazy to think that these guys co-existed with several other hominins. It makes me burn with curiosity for early human history. Listing the ancient animals that they lived beside sounds like the stuff of legends. The interaction with those larger hyenas and baboons reminds me of Tolkien's works for some reason, it would be like a party of orcs tearing into a defenseless town or something. The video was dead serious when it described their lives as a pre-historic hell!

Perhaps you are unaware that white people are the wild man in history. There are tapestries in Europe depicting Black nobility defending their castles from wild white people. It's very unfortunate that white supremacists and their supporters have hidden from the general public the truth of history. This video is nothing more than white people trying to explain my history. Very sad. I wish white people would work on replacing the system of white supremacy with a system of justice. I am a Black man and I didn't come from an ape. Maybe white people and their cousins did, but we know who and what we are.

This video is nicely done. Viewers who are not students of paleo-anthropology should note the qualifications mentioned, but not emphasized, in this lecture. First, in any field of study where hard facts are few, speculation abounds -- and homo habilis artifacts are very limited: only two fragmentary skeletons, from which we cannot tell their true size, the degree of sexual dimorphism, or whether they directly evolved into homo erectus and are, therefore, ancestral to us. They could be refined Australopitchecines, and serious scholars have suggested they belong in that genus. We don't really know if they lived in large groups like chimps, or how hairy they were, or how they made a living or mated. Much of what we think we know about homo habilis is guesswork, learned attempts to interpret the meager evidence available, usually by extrapolating from living species, like chimps or apes or primitive people that occupy somewhat similar niches. We don't know how numerous they were. Specimens have been found only in parts of sub-Saharan Africa. Second, homo habilis existed between 2.3 and 1.65 million years ago, a span of 650,000 years. Over that span of time, we would expect any species to evolve and become more refined (better adapted to its niche). Therefore, it seems likely that h. habilis of 2.3 million years ago might well have looked and behaved differently than h. habilis of 1.6 million years ago. One artifact or one skeleton may not be truly representative of the species. This comment should not be construed as a criticism of the video, but as a cautionary note: hard conclusions based on fragmentary evidence are always suspect. Much of what we know today about h. habilis will be revised, perhaps substantially, by artifacts and bones yet to be discovered.

Awesome vid 😀👍. Since it ended with you asking for suggestions, here's mine. Lately there has been a lot of vids about hybridization between Neanderthals, Denisovans and Sapiens. What are your thoughts about hybridization occurring earlier between the various Austalopithecines, Habilis, Erectus, etc. Without DNA evidence I'm sure we'll never quite know for sure, but I definitely think it was plausible. Love all your vids and keep them coming 👊😀👍

For all the people who would like a time machine to go back and see the non-avian dinosaurs -- which would, of course, be very cool -- it would really be much more interesting to go back and see stages of human evolution, to find out when language evolved and what stories they told each other, what art they had that is not preserved.

Great video! I like the tone of your clear voice and also the background tunes. Juval Hariri hypothised that homo sapiens had a 'cognitive revolution' and left Africa to conquer the world. I'm curious if there's evidence or more to explore into this 'cognitive revolution'.

Excellent so far. How about a video on cross species cooperation? Using the larger stronger Humans as a spearhead, the smaller types for scouting etc... After all, nobody told them to hate each other? This could be fascinating. As far as I know, nobody has ever explored this topic. It's usually about Neanderthal/Erectus/Denisovan co-habitation. But they weren't the only ones around. It would be an extremely speculative video, but awesome?

Another excellent job North 02. I'll watch anything you do....just let us know.....and you have a faithful sub in me. There is LOTS of information out there and I believe you would do a magnificent job at it.

Hello NORTH 02 I like your ancient human series its really good. I have some ideas regarding ancient humans. Humans before civilization Modern homo sapeins compared to ancient homo spaiens. How homo habilis would do if they existed today? Whether or not you see I hope your doing well and continue to make these videos.

Great docu, thank you. I just miss that you might have considered that lions migrated to Africa precisely in those dates (4-2 million years ago, depending who you read) and that their social behavior (along with their tree climbing skills) may have been a key selective pressure into forcing Australopithecines into becoming humans (survival of the brainiest, of those who could fathom weapons and tame fire eventually). Otherwise flawless IMO.

I love listening/watching your videos while I go to sleep. Your content is fascinating and very entertaining but your voice is pleasant and soothing which helps me fall asleep. Don't worry, I usually have to watch one of your videos three or four times so I can consume the entire video while awake. I don't let any of it go to waste. I don't have any specific suggestions for future videos but I personally love the ancient humans and ancient animals in long form. You do an excellent job and whatever you create I Will consume.💪🏽👍🏼

Have they been able to do any DNA testing to genetically trace where habilis is in the human line?
@LuisAldamiz
@LuisAldamiz 2 жыл бұрын
AFAIK not. DNA degrades and is quite difficult even to extract it from much more recent humans living in warm climates, you'd be astonished about how little we know of Homo sapiens DNA in the Tropics, almost nothing.
@EricRoberts2112

@@LuisAldamiz I realize that. But we have gone a long way when it comes to extracting ancient DNA. One of the ladies I graduated HS with is an anthropology professor in South Africa and she specializes in human genetics and ancient DNA. Fascinating stuff. She has my dream job lol.
