Same process full the radiator much as u can fill the reservoir half way put the radiator cap on since u don’t get the funnel and let it run for 10 minutes then shut it off let it cool Off once it’s nice and cold fills radiator and reservoir if it goes down and run for 10 more minutes should be good

This is a partial flush. It's better than not doing anything. If you are particular do the flush/refill procedure.... then heat up (idle or drive it) the engine until thermostat opens (WATER TEMP GAUGE STOPS GOING UP AT A LITTLE LESS THAN HALF OF GAUGE RANGE), let circulate for a bit... let cool off... repeat until drained fluid looks new.

My accord only took somewhere between 1 and 1.25 gallons. Also, the fan kicked on shortly after startup when the car wasnt even warmed up yet. I used a lily and besides the few bubbles that came out when I squeezed the hose, the coolant level in the lily didn't really go down after the initial fill. I let it idle for quite a while and test drove it and everything seemed fine, so hopefully it's ok. I'll check it in a couple days

I was waiting and waiting with the engine running. The coolant was just dripping. The fans did not start. It is 60F here so maybe that is why? The engine temp gauge was in the middle. I got nervous and turned the car off. Then more coolant came rushing after turning the engine off. The total coolant collected including the reservoir was 1.2 gallons. Any idea? Is this enough? Should I let the car idle for even longer watching the temp gauge?

Hi if I don't have your yellow coolant container so do I not just burp the system with the colling cap off and keep topping up as the water circulates and air dissipates with the heater fan on? I heard you mention to have the cap on if I don't have your yellow container method
@RBTheMechanic
@RBTheMechanic Жыл бұрын
U can just fill it up to top then run the car for 10-15 minutes make sure it dosent over heat and then let it cool off and it will suck in the coolant from the bottle if it needs more then u check coolant in radiator and bottle top it off and repeat the process one more time should be good

What do you do with the waste? I want to do this myself. Seems simple and dealer wants $170 for a coolant flush. Can you use water at the end to flush it more? Thanks I've already changed engine and cabin filters myself and they wanted $90 for both. But also my coolant is green colored and seems fine. But I guess it needs done over a certain amount of miles. I got the 2010 civic at 50k. And now it's at 110k. It's never had a coolant or brake flush since I got it. Brake flush is needed too its pretty black colored. $150 for that at the dealership.

What's your thoughts on flushes vs drain and fill? I know for Honda the coolant is supposed to last a really long time. I also can't find any recommended service intervals/frequencies on how often/when to change it. Thanks..
@RBTheMechanic
@RBTheMechanic Жыл бұрын
Flushing is for those who never did the coolant change and slacked on coolant changes now it’s so bad u need to power flush it to get it all cleaned out which prolly wount even clean out drain and fill it u do regularly ur system should stay clean and it’s simpler to keep ur coolant up to date
@jakec5618
@jakec5618 Жыл бұрын
@@RBTheMechanic Yea, i'm trying to stay on top of it so can ensure longevity of car and parts. I just read somewhere that the flushes can sometimes push gunk into places it shouldn't be (where it ordinarily would not get to). That's why I was wondering which would be better for regular maintenance considering the owner does it on a regular schedule. But I see what you're saying. Agree tho, better to do preventative maintenance than get hit later with an even bigger repair bill. Do you know what's a good interval for coolant changes? I've read varying things on when to change it...So a liil unsure on how often to do it.

Hey RB, I have a 2013 Honda Accord LX with the 2.4L engine and had a question about the coolant reservoir level. When my engine is cold and has sat overnight, the coolant in the reservoir reads exactly at the "min" line. After a drive and getting the engine fully warmed up, it is about 1/3 of the way between "min" and "max". Do you suggest I top off my coolant reservoir, or should I be good for now?
