This Honda hybrid doesn't use a CVT or any other transmission. The wheels are driven straight from electric motors, sort of like a diesel locomotive. But yeah, I also like how it works.

@@Littlun17 that's not correct, the electric motors provide 1/3rd of the power, the rest comes from the engine which goes through an "electric cvt", so an electronically controlled CTV transmission as opposed to a mechanical one.

Haydrean he is right though. The engine uses a generator and an electric motor instead of a traditional CVT. It’s Hondas new I-mma hybrid system which started being used on this Honda Accord hybrid. It makes a lot of sense as engines achieve higher efficiency when they are brought smoothly up and down the RPM range, rather then having to vary RPMs when dealing with acceleration.

@@Adlore Incorrect.. That's how the Toyota system works, the Honda system has a powerful electric motor that handles most of the propulsion. The only time the engine engages with the wheels is through a high capacity clutch and it has to be at certain cruising speeds. It has instant torque and even the new Insight with the smaller system outperforms the Toyota system with more HP and faster 0-60..

Switch to sport and drive for several minutes, it will force the battery to get fully charged. Then it will help your acceleration.

Aperson_named only the 2.0 comes with an optional 10 speed auto. With the 1.5, you are limited to either CVT or 6 speed manual (sport only).

Nothing would change, most likely. As soon as you aggressively stomp the pedal to the floor the car will override whatever eco stuff is active.
