I think the longitudinally placed engine allowed for 60 /40 front to back weight distribution in the Vigor. In 1991, that was unheard of for a 4 door sedan. Of course, only sporty drivers could notice the benefit of it. The drawback of that weirdly mounted engine maybe the much less back seat room. In fact, the smaller Accord had much more back seat room.
@azaz911c6 жыл бұрын
In 1990, I went as a kid to a Honda showroom and saw a Honda Accord EXR in black with tan interior. With its trim, orderly styling, aluminum wheels (not that common at the time), and its high level of finish quality, it was a truly beautiful car. It was expensive in the Canadian market though. The price was $23,500. In those days, you could easily buy for less a larger, more comfortable American car with a V6 like an Oldsmobile 88 (which were very popular), or a Ford Taurus - appealing choices for family life and long road trips in the summer. To put things in context, and not to say they were comparable, but a Ford Tempo was about $11,000 out the door. Canadians and the car market were different then. Entry level luxury did not exist as a concept. For many, the main focus was to get as much car for as little as possible.
@PRNTestDrive6 жыл бұрын
Definitely makes sense! We had hoped to find the MSRPs for these vehicles in Canadian dollars, however Honda Canada's press website was pretty limited, whereas the US has quite a lot of documentation on the CB7 Accord and Acura Vigor, which is why we went with the US prices for these. It's funny, but I almost bought an Olds 88 as my first car, it was pretty interesting to drive! We find older cars like these Hondas have serious soul, but newer ones not so much. Not sure if we're alone in that thinking.

I have a cb and spent some good time with a Vigor I picked up for a friend some time ago. No question the cb is more practical but I found the Vigor to be a LOT more sporty. Where the cb is soft and numb, the Vigor felt way more stiff and sporty, almost European like. I really liked that car and how stable it felt. The engine note and the power were incredible bonuses. The one I drove was that signature metallic green with the burnt orange leather interior, it was a gorgeous car for sure. The DSP oem stereo was pretty futuristic as well. I love my cb after having owned it for nearly 13 years but the Vigor was by far the superior driving car and had a nice quality interior.

You have a point about the vigor but that engine is unique because it’s Hondas only production inline 5 and the only other company’s that made gas inline 5s where Volvo, Audi and vw .if you ever heard a ttrs or rs3 modified or a Volvo it sounds very similar to a V10 from a Lamborghini or a dodge viper a turbocharged version of this engine would sound like nothing else Honda has built outside of there f1 v12 and v10 engines. But VIGOR has 0.5 sec advantage over the ACCORD V6 in 0-60 as well as for 1/4 mile according to official info But I wonder about the handling .
