Hello everyone! This video shows how I got rid of the whiny power steering noise on my 2002 Acura TL. This will be the same for most Honda and Acura V6 engines. The whine is caused by a faulty o ring on the return side. It is very noisy and will cause your power steering fluid to bubble and spill over and make a huge mess. Hope this video helps.

I have a 1999 Acura 3.2TL & has been experiencing this issue for 2 yrs ONLY in the warm months. Was about to let go until I saw this video... I have taken it back & forth to mechanics and NOT SUCCESSFUL at ALL!! I can NOT THK You ENOUGH for sharing this video & also responding PROMPTLY to my email giving me specific part #. My car is a for SURE a GO now. I'm DEFINITELY one of your followers. You saved me lots of money!! THANKS a MILLION again & again!!

Hey man thanks for making this video, I couldn't find anyone else on the internet saying they had successfully done this job on this particular generation of Acura TLs before and I was struggling so much getting that 10mm bolt off that I was beginning to think it was impossible without removing the entire pump. You gave me reassurance that it was possible and I got it done! Just a heads up though, your video never came up in all my searching for someone with this particular generation of TL, I actually found your video through dumb luck in my recommended videos. If you could put the year of your car in your videos title that would greatly help future people like me find your super helpful video!

@@PeterZafra I agreed with Neem Baba as this is my 2nd week looking for 2002 TL-S as prior and older years there is a lot more room to work with. At the very least I upgraded my wrench sets to get to that bolt. I was short of disassembling the entire power steering pump just to get to the bolt. In either case, thanks again!

The lower bolt really was a pain in the ass to get to, but so far this fixed the humming I was hearing. Real test will be tomorrow am on a cold start. Thanks for the tutorial
@PeterZafra
@PeterZafra 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. If thr humming is gone, then it's fixed because the humming was from the air getting sucked in. If its still humming, then the belt might be too tight or the oil needs replacement.

Best way and easy way to replace bottom O ring is to remove power steering pump only 2 bolts and top adjustment bolt just remove reservoir hose clamps from pump after you raise up pump sit unit on top of engine you then can have easy Access to bottom bolt took me less then 30 min do this while engine is cool. FYI remove engine cover 4 small 10mm bolts you need also a 12 mm socket for pump and adjustment nut to loosen belt and push to side other ways make job hard to do.

Clean motor compartment 🤘
@MrDan1509
@MrDan1509 4 жыл бұрын
WD-40 will make any compartment look like that.. If super dirty, spray down with WD-40 then use a car wash pressure washer to wash it off, the WD-40 will help break the grime loose, don't use engine degreaser as it will harm aluminum. I like to use the Hot Wax at the car wash then wash that off with cold water so there's no spots of wax left like hard water looking spots. Then spray the compartment down again with WD-40.... Stealerships or Mom and Pops used to use Automatic Transmission Fluid in a spray bottle. Works the same!

Thank you for sharing! I really appreciate for your video. I replaced the top O ring watching your video! Now, I'm trying to replace the bottom O ring but the bolt is underneath and it is really difficult to reach. I'm referring to the 10mm bolt you are mentioning at 2:32. Using the short 10mm wrench I get can to the bolt but I can't turn it counterclockwise as I have no room to do so due to side engine mount. Could you please explain how you actually did it?
@PeterZafra
@PeterZafra 4 жыл бұрын
I used a regular wrench and it was just a lengthy process but the whole mission is to break the seal then once the bolt is lose enough, use your finger to loosen it until its off. Then reverse order to replace. You can do it. Just time consuming.
@Joseph-C
@Joseph-C 3 жыл бұрын
Just finished this job. After unclipping the wiring harness out of the way you should be able to slide the wrench up against the front of the engine mount in between the mount and the wiring harness mount. I actually stood at the front of the vehicle, crouched down, and was able to see the 10mm bolt as I placed the wrench on it. I used a headlamp to provide some lighting for this angle. You can use a screwdriver to help get the wrench mounted on the bolt, then stand over the wrench and shove it down the front of the engine mount. Just leaving this here for anyone struggling with this.

I'm almost positive this is what's wrong with my 03 CL type s but I don't have any fluid leaking under my car. I had the 120,000 mile service done and they replaced the water pump and multiple belts along with other work at the dealer. About a year later I started hearing the sound and it sounds just like the video down to turning the steering wheel. So is it possible that this is my problem without leaking fluid, and it's not the power steering belt which I initially thought it might be?
@PeterZafra

I replaced the two O rings and the noise continued as usual. Then my friend who is a mechanic said it was the power steering pump since my Acura 2001 had more than 200k miles. He replaced it and the whining noise is still the same and reservoir bubbles and leaks once I turned off the car. What else could it be? If it’s a pressure hose leak? How can I find the problem?
@PeterZafra
@PeterZafra 5 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure the o rings did not seat well. Power steering pump will never whine. If it's bad, the pump will leak at the bearing. The o ring however might have some residue left from the old o rings that leaves enough room for air to escape. The bottom o ring is usually the problem. Try to redo it and make sure there's no residue left on both the housing area and hose part. Hope that helps. Cheers.
