Of course in Extreme cases, this method may not work and replacement of carburetor is necessary.. but this will work 90% of the time!

Just followed along and got my carb out, cleaned and back in with little to no effort thanks to your video - fired right up after giving the carb a little TLC. Brilliant work - saved me the price of a new lawn mower - thought that this honda would never go again ...... the fact that you went into so much detail about stripping it down - I thought I would just give it a go. Much to my surprise .... there were a couple of things stopping it working - 1 ... the air filter was clogged as one of the plastic tabs had broken letting rubbish grass get into it. 2 ... the spark plug was covered in carbon - so a good clean of that ... I did strip the carb down .... but the jet would not come out - so I just blew through it ... must have cleared anything that was in there ..... any way - it all works fine now. Cheers ....and a Big Thank you ......... from me .

It is a good policy to replace the carby gaskets on the cylinder head side of the carby because I cleaned it out & before long it was running rough,misfiring & stalling at idle speed. I found out one of the gaskets were slightly damaged & leaking air,so I cut 2 new ones out for the carby base gaskets & now the mower runs good. Note this has been the first time the carby has been pulled apart so no tampering was done on the mower beforehand.

Headphone warning around 2:37. I need to do this to mine. I bought an old Honda HRC216 K1 commercial mower second hand from a friend. It runs like garbage. Funny though it still starts on the first pull like all the advertisements 😂. The problem isn’t starting it, it’s keeping it running. I have to let it warm up for about a week before I can engage the blade without it stalling out. After that it does pretty good. Might need a valve adjustment too which looks pretty simple. Carb looks pretty similar but what sucks is the fuel shutoff is actually part of the carb. So I can’t just shut the fuel off and take the carb off without spilling gas everywhere. I’ve got an old shutoff valve hanging around that will hopefully fit on the hose. I used to soak motorcycle carbs in pinesol over night and then blew them out. That worked pretty good too.
@JLPicard440
@JLPicard440 3 жыл бұрын
When there's no shutoff I usually use a pair of needle nose vise grips and crimp the fuel line shut. Yes, I'm not convinced of a carb problem with what you've described there. Do you have a compression gauge? Might check that and see if it's low.. If so, it could be valves. I don't remember if the rocker arms were adjustable, so hopefully they are. I wouldn't discount the carburetor all together, but it doesn't sound like my first guess.

This video was "just right." Add a parts diagram of the carb in case you get confused on reassembly. Before cleaning, mower would run for less than a second. Did EXACTLY what the video suggested and it started on the third pull and ran very smoothly. Those little welding nozzle cleaners were really great. You can also push the main nozzle out from the top with a dental pick instead of using the easy out. But, I'm sure that works great.

A good tip is to pull off the gas tank, hoses, clean them out, especially the gas tank, then do the carb, then put all back together, and back in business. I skipped the gas tank step and had to redo clean the carb due to some dirt in the tank. Lesson learned.

Honestly the Auto choke on these are a bigger problem than clogged carbs...your choke plate should be closed on these when the mower is cold, it should start on first pull assuming its getting proper fuel (bowl, no issues, float no issues, jets no issues) . Its often takes 5 minutes for the idle to smooth out on these, when the choke finally opens the choke plate up all the way open. If the choke plate does not close again when the mower is cold , replace the Honda 16620-Z1L-841 Thermo Wax Assembly; 16620Z1L841 . It controls the auto choke based on heating from the block

Well the easiest way I got it back on with the new gasquets was to start by putting the bolts through the air filter mount, then proceed with the first gasquet, carb, second, then 3rd gasquet. At first I tried to line it all up and hold it while I took my other hand and held the air filter mount up against it then tried to get the bolts in. Very bad idea, the carb would either slip or one of the gasquets would slip and not be in alignment.

Two questions. Do you use the store bought gas that has no ethanol in it? Also if I start the mower and let it run until it stops (after the season is over) does that run all the gas out of the carb and bowl?
@JLPicard440
@JLPicard440 4 жыл бұрын
HI David,... I don't buy the gas from Lowes for example because they are just crazy at $20 for a gallon can of it. I have a local gas station that sells ethanol free gas. If you have something like that available to you, then by all means get that. If not, I use the blue star tron stable. If you have a Honda there's usually a screw in the bottom of the bowl that can be removed so you can drain the bowl. If you have a gas cut off valve cut off the gas, then run the mower until it quits... but it still doesn't empty the bowl. You can remove that screw and drain the rest of it. The best way is no gas at all in the system. Also, if you have a local small airport, they might sell you 100LL AV fuel in a 5 gallon can, that would be a great alternative to automotive fuel at the pump.. Hope this has helped... thanks... :-)

I had to take mine all apart and could see absolutely no reason for all of that plastic shrouding around the carburetor. All it did was stop a person from seeing and adjusting what needed. I think it's a "CYA" thing by Honda so that they can say that their gasoline containing carb didn't start a fire by some crazy rock jumping up, hitting it and breaking it even before the mower comes in contact with it. I took my Dremel and cut away all that wasn't needed to hold the air filter on. Works the same and I can do what I want when I want with the carb without having to tear everything apart.

Honda makes a robust motor and decent mower. I leave my mower outside year round, and it always starts first pull after refilling the gas (which I run until dry every year for storage). Every spring change the oil and filter.. that's about all .. replaced the starter cord once from weathering.

Hello, My mower stopped while mowing due to low fuel. And the it doesn't start so far even though I filled gas. I did followings for my not starting Honda engine mower. 1.replaced ignition plug and confirmed ignition works well. So no problem with ignition coil. 2.cleaned the carburetor twice following instruction. 3.Confirmed fuel is provided into the carburetor well. 4.replaced all gaskets around carburetor. 5.replaced air filter. 6.provided fresh gas. But my mower is not still work. If I installed the air filter, I cannot feel anything from the engine, but if the filter is removed the engine works two or three times irregularly and then stop. I can see backfire at that time. I bought the new Husqvarna mower just two years ago. Could you tell me what I can try to do anymore? Thanks.

If it's backfiring, there could be a timing issue.. did you hit anything in the yard?? It could jolt the flywheel out of time.. just a possibility ..

if there is timing issue, could you recommend what I have to do?
@JLPicard440
@JLPicard440 7 жыл бұрын
Well if you didn't hit anything, then this is very unlikely,... the reason i suggested it is because of the backfiring.. that's usually a timing issue,.. but to check the timing,.. you would have to take off the top cover and the nut that's on the flywheel so you can see the keyway,.. if it's still lined up then it's ok... I do have a video on this issue, but it's a briggs engine,.. but the principal is the same..

well if it's leaking out of the carb where the choke is.. you know, where the air intake goes in,.. you've probably got a needle and seat leaking.. if it's leaking around where the bowl mates with the carb body,.. it's probably the bowl gasket... the reving super high? @@RC-jr8fi You can use regular unleaded, but if you have a gas station near by that sells ethanol free I like to use that. But it's not required. Yeah well, pulling out the pilot jet is all well and good, but why not go the next step and pull out the emulsion tube behind it. The fuel ports are so tiny, they could use a least a quick purge. Turn off the fuel shut off and let it run the carb dry. Easier than fishing around for that drain screw.

Actually when you do that, it still leaves a little bit of fuel in the bottom of the bowl which can rust it out. That drain screw doesn't really require any fishing, it's usually facing the front (the head side) and is easy to get to.
