A quick video of some upgrades I have made to my Honda CB125F. I also changed the original tyres but I could not find a premium brand front tyre in the size of 80\100-18 so i switched to 2.75-18 instead which does't seem to have affected the handling but I DO NOT IN ANY WAY RECOMMEND OR ENDORSE THAT YOU DO THIS. (Thats the disclaimer folks if anyone should follow suit). More upgrades to follow.

I loved the comment about the passing rider, absolutely cracks me up every I watch this video. I did my CBT on this very bike and I must say it was excellent!! I am going to get my bike within the next few months and I am torn between a lot of bikes but, this is at no.1 with a couple of others as I need panniers for commuting to work and back home, round trip of about 40-45 miles. I have watched a few of your other videos and I can't wait to see you on a few trips on this. This video is very informative and love the humour and puns. Keep it up pal and maybe I'll see you on your journeys one day. Rising Phoenix!!

1:08 I've been using soft luggage for years. If you fall over with these plastic cases, and it will happen eventually, they are broken. The disc and the LED light are great. Thanks for the video. Greetings from Germany / Bavaria 🙋‍♂

Thank you for your comments. I am still learning to use the camera but thought it came out OK. I have considered an aftermarket exhaust but I am wondering if the engine note might be tiring after a long journey. I purchased the panniers from Motorcycle Planet in London. The pannier frame number was PL1142. I am waiting for some brackets to be made and then I will fit the new auxiliary lights I mentioned and post a video of the results soon along with results of the new Philips LED headlight bulb. This bike has an ACG output of just 202 watts so saving power to run other accessories is a necessity. More will follow soon. Also planned is a Koso Voltmeter to monitor the state of the battery.

Excellent review and this is what i plan to do. Go touring on one of these little cb125s. I had one many years ago and I have quite a few larger bikes and a large scooter. This however will be a better challenge so your review has given me some useful information. Also your height and weight are similar to mine. The p uig screens are first class. I use one on my kymco xciting 400i. Thank you

Thanks for your comments. I did like this bike and if you use it as a 50mph workhorse or tourer you wouldn’t be disappointed with it. There are some easy mods you can also do to improve performance like a drop in larger injector and I believe there are a few exhausts out there that will uplift power slightly. All good fun.

Thanks for your question UMD. I have done a few long distance rides on the CB125 now and both have been favourable against other light bikes I have owned. Recently I went from Aldershot to Luton and back through the Chilterns without issue. That's about 150 miles round trip without much in the way of stopping. I find that if I sit at 50 mph as a cruising speed it seems to ride nice. The Michelin tyres help with comfort also. Bear in mind that I'm a big lad at 18 stone and I usually have comfort issues sitting for so long but not so with the CB and no shoulder ache either. It's the nice upright position for sure that helps.

Hi Coyote, The CB was a lovely bike but I sold it. My first ever bike was back in 1988 and it was a Honda CB125RS so this was a bit of a nostalgia bike for me really. I'm currently considering an offer on another new one of these so maybe there will be more on this bike soon.

@scootyman2974
@scootyman2974 7 жыл бұрын
Davide Cannavacciuolo Hi David. I would say no, I don't think you could get a helmet in the side cases. The Givi E340 box fitted here will definitely take a full face helmet. I personally wouldn't go much bigger on the top case though as any larger with much weight tips the bike back on the centre stand making loading difficult. Hope that helps and best regards

Hi Scooty, have you had any problems with the 2.75 x 18 tire on the front? Thanks in advance
@scootyman2974
@scootyman2974 7 жыл бұрын
Danny Wilce Hi Danny. I had no problems at all with the slightly narrower tyre. It was so minimal and when you consider the contact patch would be virtually the same on either tyre, I don't think it made a difference. For your reference though, I have been looking closely at another CB125F (I sold mine) and after a bit of research I found out there is a new tyre by Continental being launched in the spring of 2017 in the size 80/100-18 and one for the rear also. I believe it will be called a ContiCity. It's a lovely retro triangular pattern tread and I think it suits the bike down to the ground. If you prefer Michelins though, I give the 2.75-18 a thumbs up in my book but as always I would have to say do it at your own risk (legal disclaimer haha) Best regards
@stevel2027
@stevel2027 6 жыл бұрын
I've had a few dicey moments but managed to control it ok. But its the only bike i've ever ridden so not sure how much difference a fat tire would make. The very first junction i do on my way to work has a friggin manhole cover right in the middle of the road. Accelerating and turning when you've literally just woke up and rubbing eyes... the wheel just wants to go under. So yeah avoid any quick turns if its even remotely damp, cause you might die of embarrassment dumping your bike on its side in the middle of traffic lol

+Scooty Man I had looked at these earlier as the only ones I saw in the UK. Only I thought they were just the storage boxes. But I've just realised they are the mounting brackets for the panniers and the top box xD. Thanks m8! Realy! I go down from Dublin to Limerick once a year for IYWE (Irish Youth Wind Ensemble) which means I have to carry an double Oboe and Cor Anglais case on my back, my concert dress, and my change of cloths for a week... (usually dad brings me down in the car, but this means I can buy me a Cb125f and travel by myself ^^) honestly! thanks! PS. Did your panniers come with a set of matching keys? (eg 1+ 1-2 identical spares) or did you get separate Keys with different locks for the panniers?
@scootyman2974
@scootyman2974 8 жыл бұрын
+Garreth Kelly Hi Gareth. You get a pair of keys that open both boxes. In my honest opinion, these givi boxes are good but (and it's a big BUT), I found over time they slowed the bike down due to the drag they create. The steel carriers for them are heavy. Add on top of this the panniers themselves and your belongings and you have a very heavy rear end on the bike. It wasn't good to load on either side or main stand. When I made this video I loved them. Over time the novelty wore off and I went back to my Givi EA101 soft panniers. Watch my other videos and you will see my setup on the Innova125 that I took to Scotland. Now that was A great setup! Only my opinion but if you are riding distance on a 125 you want to make it as easy as possible. My CB 125F was sold and I bought a Suzuki VanVan. I'm always changing my bikes and I'll probably buy another CB as I've got some other mod ideas in the pipeline for this bike. Lots I liked about it. Ride safe

That’s a really good question. The CB125F has been long gone and I’m currently bumping about on a Vision 110 and an ST1100 Pan European. I don’t think that’ll be for too long though and one of the bikes I’m considering is the new CB125F. It does all the things the old one would do and possible more. We will have to see what the summer brings I guess. I keep threatening to buy a Royal Enfield but I’m still unsure that’s a wise decision.

Are you happy using these panniers ? I look small panniers to my cbr
@scootyman2974
@scootyman2974 7 жыл бұрын
I was happy with the panniers. However, one thing that I discovered after a little use is they are not so aerodynamic and because of the combined weight of the frame, top box and panniers themselves, the bike would tip backwards lifting the front wheel off the floor once loaded. This isn't really a problem but it will change the dynamic of your CBR in my opinion from a sleek sports bike to something more cumbersome to handle. It makes life harder when manoeuvring on and off the stand (side or main stand if you have) so I would recommend the Givi EA101 fabric panniers because they fit closer to the bike and expand if you buy anything whilst touring. I did like the plastic panniers alot and love the security they bring but they are heavy in comparison as I said before. Hope that helps

Thaks a lot - These will be my first panniers ever! I think they will handle a motorway speed- aprox 80-90 mph . all I want is this : bike must be not to wide , and they must be waterproof and solid - couse in june this year I want to circle around the Polish borders - 10 days and 4200 km trip. :)
